only change the {} brackets. if you change the [] and {} the names wil not function.

Thanks but i never touched the name files, all i did was make the burgundians playable and gave them scotland, and changed the income of scotland and some of the available units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It's probably the "SetStartLeader::" parameters. Some of the 9 numbers are pointers to names tables.

Make sure you have'nt changed them. Also make sure you have'nt copied the valkues from an High.txt to a Late.txt or visa-versa.

Very interesting could you be a bit more specific? Could i for example make the burgundian leader have say a danish name but change the danish names to scottish ones then remove the danes from the game? Or is there another less important faction name list? that doesent share its names with other factions?

Swoosh So,

There is a lot of flexibility but also a lot of complications in this area of faction name changing.

The 1st thing, as you have discovered, is that there is not a 1 to 1 relationship between between the names in 'Names.txt' and the factions.

Some of the names tables in Names.txt are used for more than 1 faction -

1) Spanish and Aragonese share 1 names table
2) Russian and Novgorad share 1 names table
3) French, Burgundian and Swiss share 1 names table
....

This makes it hard work to change just 1 faction (for example, to represent the Scot's) without upsetting the requirements for other factions.

Another important considerastion is faction colours - that are hardcoded in MTW.

The 1st question should be - "What factions do you wish to have in your mod?" If you really want to have a Scottish faction then you must decide -

a) which faction (colour wise) you wish to represent as the Scot's
b) what is the effect of changing the names (in 'Names.txt&#39http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif for that faction? Will it upset ant other faction names that share that same table?

VI is 'anticipated' to resolve this However, with MTW 1.1 is really is'nt easy

If you require to discuss this further for ideas then by all means E-mail me - I did a Scot's mod many months ago and also ran into undesirable problemns http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Swoosh So,

Just as a further aside could I suggest that SoS (Sword of Storms) may well know more about this area.

SoS - any ideas?

I don't see why not.
If you want mod in scotland then the turks
would be a good one to dump.
Seen as the Scottish Turkish war was not very famous http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
