I forgot to get screenies until just now but I just had the easiest battle ever as the Seleucids...

In my VH/VH campaign I sent a general and four groups of militia hoplites after three groups of Egyptian Nubian Spearmen

The battle starts and I march my four hoplites in a line to face the Nubeans who had withdrawn near the corner of the map while sending the general on the far right flank to charge when necessary

They respond by bringing two of their spearmen units to face my line and sending their general out in front of their defensive line perpendicular to my battle line facing my general and stand there without moving

so the setup is like this:
N ~ Nubian Spearmen
C ~ Cavalry
H ~ Hoplites

= and || ~ Phalanx

N N
|||| N= C

|||||||||
H H H H

No matter how I maneuver they refuse to move so I figure why not mess with them...

I leave one hoplite group stretched out in front of their line just out of phalanx reach
I bring two more around to the back of their line and (just out of range) point my spears at the backs of their units
And I bring my final hoplite right behind their general (again, just out of range)

and they sit there!! Its like their AI had shut off...

So I decided to end it and had my three groups at their backs march in and their line was cut into pieces, they didn't even fight, they just fled...

Their general managed to get a bit of a head start because he wasnt surrounded but my cavalry easily chased him down...

Battle Results:
Allies:
Deployed:
34x (4 hoplites of 80 each and a general's unit with 2x)
Lost:
0
Enemies:
Deployed:
241 (3 nubians of 80 each and a general)
Lost:
241

Anyone else had anything like this ever happen? It was like their AI stopped working... and this was my fourth battle of the campaign after returning to RTW after 2 or so years... Was the AI always this weird? Or was this a mistake?

i had this happen recently in my GC campaign. I sent two hoplite units of 80 each to deal with a small rebel brigand which also coincidentally was 2 hoplite units. I moved my units side by up facing their units which were lined up with one unit behind the other. No matter how close I got they didn't move at all (maybe because the hoplites are defensive) but i proceeded to flank them with my units and they didn't move until I broke and routed them. This must be a bug in the ai somehow.

It looks like an interesting bug! I'd love to get one :))

You haven't had an easy battle until you take 4 generals to deal with one unit of rebel peasants. :devil:

dude, only one general is strong enough to deal with the peasants :))
