I have no qualms with the starting FMs like hanno, mago, hasdrubal etc except that at least one could potentially be a good general, But their offsprings are just plain useless. Its 230 BC in my Third carthie campaign and none of my FMs have the S/C/V trait, since the old guard are all dead. My best FM has the S/U/V trait but is pessimistic as hell, alternating from gloomy to melachony, with 4 command after innumeral slaughtering of Iberians and Eleuteroi. If it wasn't for the fact that in my previous campaigns my FMs also sucked the golden ass i would have guessed it was just me being unlucky, but now i think carthage is scripted to have a semi-retarded aristocracy. Somebody :help: me rectify this.
end :furious3:

Historical Realism at its best:laugh4:

..EXACTLY the same experience I had, Adherbal was D,U,L and S,P,D
I haven't had this problem across the board. My Adherbal was S/C/V, U/O/D and is now my faction leader with 10 Management and 10 Influence. And Bisaltes, Hasdrubal's son, is adding 3k a turn income to Gader with a bunch of good mining traits.
Most of the others of the starting kids have some redeemable traits. Himilco is a clone of Bomilkar and is doing okay governing. Hamalcar the Younger, had to work on him, but after having several victories over the Romans, he's got a lot of command and management, as well as being I think S/U/V.
The other generals that have come in later, while a few are retards, most of my sons that have come of age are good. A son of Hanno is set to become him again, with S/C/V and a lot of scrolls and wreaths.
So, I haven't had this problem at all. In fact, I'm having much better generals than in other campaigns. Maybe its just bad luck.

Its because they save the best for Baal.
Its because they save the best for Baal.
OT (forgive me), but is EB like vanilla RTW in that you need to build a temple to Baal before you can recruit sacred band units? (I don't have more than a few turns of experience in EB's Carthage faction.)
That question is a rhetoric one, isn't it?
No you don't need any temple.

No, it's not a rhetorical question. It wasn't even expressed as a rhetorical question (at least if English is your first language). And thanks. Let's see if EB 2 will be similar. I was almost sure EB didn't need the temple because of the double MIC system, but there are so many changes for EB 2, I'm sure the barracks system is one of them.
Since EB wants to be realistic and historical correct why would you need a temple? You can't build more then one temple because it would probably unbalance the game as long as temples give important public order bonuses. But I think there's no doubt that a city would have temples for many important gods. It would be unrealistic to have it the way it is in vanilla.
(No English is not my first language, most times I just hope that the people understand the meaning of what I write. They often enough don't when I speak german...)
Temples in EB do not represent all religious structures in the town, but rather a city adopting and sponsoring the cult of a patron-deity.
That said: the current set-up is a relic of vanilla R:TW. I am certain it will be completely different in EB2.

In addition, it would be nigh-impossible to represent nearly all buildings in a city, considering the building limitations in the engine. Also, that sort of 'realism' would be more of a gameplay hindrance rather than an improvement.
The Carthies are going through substantial changes in EB2.
Baal has been satisfied by their new trait system.

I also find elite liby-phoenician and sacred band to be redundant, why would i ever bother recruiting a sacred band when i got an ap monster one MIC level before?
Also, The lorica Scutarii are so weak, how are they losing to medium iberian spearmen and levy skirmishers?

RP purposes.
At least differentiate them.
At least differentiate them.
It's like how you can work with a Tier 3 army in the Ancient Near East as opposed to a combined Tier 4 & 5 elite 'Royal' army. Both work fine, but I like to have a 'Royal' army once I've become the 'King of Kings', so to speak.
