Wife and kids are out of town, job gets over at five home by six, house looks immaculate, yard is mowed, hedges are trimmed, leaves are raked... and I never realized how truly tedious late night television really is when you don't hear screaming and yelling in the background. I always wondered what life would be like if it was just me again, and I got my answer; the silence is weird and uncomfortable. Is this what being retired is like? I hope not. I'm actually looking forward to when they get back on Sunday evening.

Have an affair. The forbidden fruit tastes best.

There is a lot of suffering in that post old buddy. Let me tell you something, straight talk: it's exactly that silence that will cut boredom to ribbons if you give it a chance. A lot of times silence feels uncomfortable because we feel like we're not alive if we're not making noise. Jive! If you want to be free of boredom, look into that silence; if you want to suffer just try and fill that silence with whatever thoughts you have about it.
But if you can't go that route, keep in mind that we live in the most exciting time in human history. So be anything you want, but don't be bored! ;)
Boredom is often when we get inspiration though. A time for our minds to wander freely.

I have to say I liked the quiet when the lads moved out. It was like going back to being eighteen again. Funnily enough I felt older 30 years ago than I do now. Probably the responsibility. Anyhoo, here's summat to listen to....

Pah! Never mind the Buzzcocks. I bet all of the former Buzzcocks are now destitute alcoholics, illiterate and unable to get a decent job, full of regret for the years they wasted on sex and drugs and rock 'n roll.

Use the time to write a book.

Ah, last night was just very twilight zone. There's usually ALWAYS something that needs to be done, and I'm a busy body by nature, I can't sit still for too long. There was just literally nothing to do, even my Garage is in tip top shape, my books are balanced... I like the dog idea... I wonder if Ms. Waki would either kill me, or just couldn't bear to disappoint the girls if she said we couldn't keep it.

I will echo with some of the posters. When you are alone it is your time, so dont waist it agonizing over what to do. Just do what ever you like. Im quite sure that there are movies you want to see, books to read, plans to make for the future and if nothing else, just pick your favourite drink or bite and enjoy it slowly without any kind of interference what so ever.

Use the boredom to explore a new interest, read a book or pursue something else which is new.
You work too much you forgot how to relax, buy a good bottle of whisky, a good cigar, put a chair on your perfectly mown lawn, and study the flight-pattern of butterflies. There isn't any, refill glass.
