I seem to suffering from brief transient amenesia, could someone please tell me how to make downloaded medieval units playable?

If your talking about the Lords units
well install them and that's it.

I downloaded the Skutatoi to see how kataphraktoi interpreted it.

I didn't try that one yet.
I assume if it's a zip with the file structure
of mtw you copy the file to the matching folders.
It should have a readme.

thx, i just downloaded your 69 units mr. krazy, how do i copy the crusader line into crusaders prod txt 11.?
when i make my own units, i just write directly in it.

Have you read any of the guides?
You can just write in to it but it's
tab deliminated ( I hate saying that)
So get gnome's editor (it's in one of the stikies)
If you have a good knowledge of TTD files in
in word or excel well that would do,
failing that get Gnome's editor.
Gnomes editor is the best for dummies.
dummies is a computting term not
an evaluation of intelect ok.
