I don't want to alarm people, but I received this email at work today and thought it worth passing on to those who live/work in the area. It originated this morning (Monday, October 18th) from the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command and is apparently a US military intelligence alert, so I'm taking it more seriously than I would if I had received it from some random chain email. The message is consistent with some news stories that were running last week.

Subject: ***ATTENTION: SECURITY ALERT - WASHINGTON, DC AREA***
Importance: High

Sending on behalf of NAVAIR Assistant Commander, Corporate Operations (AIR-7.0):

NAVAIR Leadership and Supervisors:

Please advise personnel who work from the Washington Liaison Office or
have business in the downtown DC area to increase their level of
awareness, particularly when dining at DC area restaurants during the
week. Sources have identified an increased threat from a known terror
group with intent to target restaurants in the Washington DC area during
crowded hours.

Encourage your folks to remain aware of their surroundings.

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Caveats: FOUO

Basically, if you live in the area, pay attention to your surroundings when eating out this week.

Here are the news stories I saw about it last week:
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2010/10/11/2010-10-11_terror_threat_to_restaurants_as_al_qaeda_calls_for_attacks_on_government_workers.html

I didn't think anything of the articles at the time because I'm not particularly concerned about an Al Qaeda magazine article (they have magazines, really?). However, the email this morning seems to be taking it a lot more seriously than those articles would otherwise indicate is necessary, so it made me pay attention.

Interesting. TinCow receives FOUO messages. Hmmm...

Weird. I haven't heard anything about it.

Yea, just ask the natives. :drummer:

Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Thanks for the update, guess I'll stick to my usual college student-catered haunts for the week. :sweatdrop:
