I know this has been asked before, but I'm gonna ask again. How can I make the Sicilians (I made them playable) or any other noncrusader Catholics crusaders?

Looking in the "units" file, Crusades are available as a unit to build as Sicilians. However, you need a Chapter House and if you check the "build" file you will find "SICILIAN" is not listed as a faction that can build a Chapter House, nor is POLISH, DANISH, HUNGARIAN, etc. So add in the Sicilians in the approapriate entry under Chapter House and give it a try.

I think you will also have to go into the Txt. file and change the Factions Religious behavior the Sicilans are set at CATHOLIC_NAVAL_EXPANSIONIST so I think you would have to change them to CATHOLIC_EXPANSIONIST_CRUSADER

Not so.

First, I presume the question is "how do I get to launch crusades playing as the Danes?" Not, "how do I get the Danish AI to launch crusades, while I'm playing as another faction."

To launch crusades you only need to add DANISH or any other faction you want to be able to build them, to column 20 in the build_prod13.txt file for the CHAPTER_HOUSE entry.

To get the AI to build more crusades you need to mod the AI build probabilities in column 15, row 146 (crusade) of the unit_prod11.txt file.

The AI personalities such as Catholic_Crusader_Trader, Catholic_Trader, Muslim_Peaceful, etc., are only the starting AI personalities. If you change a starting faction AI behavior to "crusader" that doesn't mean that faction will produce more crusades All AI factions change change these basic personalities based on calculations made by the game engine during play (we don't know exactly why because it's all hard coded). You can see that even "muslim" AI personalities have an AI build probability for crusades: "MUSLIM_PEACEFUL(10), MUSLIM_EXPANSIONIST(8), MUSLIM_DEVOUT(8)".

This proves that catholic factions can change into "muslim" or "orthodox" AI behaviors, (since Muslim's can't build crusades, there would be no need for an AI build probability for them unless catholic factions could assume "muslim" AI behaviors, like say, the English become "Muslim_Peaceful", at some point).

Kraellin has discussed this point in at length in several different mod threads in the Dungeon.

Yes, but I think he was trying to spread the topic into a more general look at how crusading works, rather than just concerning himself with Sicillians.
I was unaware of these differences in personality, although it does explain the glaringly different personalities in play
Thanks for pointing this out.

Also, you might want to go back to crusaders_unit_prod11.txt (column 50) and enable some crudade units for the Sicilian.

If I understand correctly:

The AI characteristic (ie CATHOLIC_CRUSADER_TRADER) will effect how often they use crusade.

The AI build probability (ie CATHOLIC_CRUSADER_TRADER(119) ) will effect how many crusade marker they will build. The greater the number, the more often Ai will consider to build.

For crusade units (in column 11), you will often see the negative number in the Parentheses. I forgot what the Devs called (something about short list), but the units with nagative number will always be chosen. The lower number, the more often. You can make any unit appear in the crusade by adding in column 11 CRUSADE(##).

To make crusade spawn with more units, I think you will need to reduce the training cost.
