View Full Version : EBI appears in list of Top Ten mods for Total War series
Topping the list:
1. Rome: Europa Barbarorum
Ever since there have been Total War games, there have been Total War modders. As soon as the Creative Assembly release a new Total War game, an army of enthusiasts pounce, retexturing units, overhauling the AI and crafting new campaigns. We’ve sifted through the hundreds of Total War mods out there and found ten of the best. These mods give us whole new areas of history to explore, fantasy worlds to conquer and challenging new campaigns to play. From Rome through to Napoleon: Total War, we’ve got you covered.

Just in case some people didn't see the thread over at the TWC about it.

I actually haven't tried any other RTW mod since EB 1.0 came out. Guess that says it all, really.....

I went back to RTR/ExRM briefly, but then came back again.

Out of these I have played EB (obviously), SPQR, Broken Crescent and Third Age. EB is definitely top dog though Broken Crescent and Third Age were fun for a while and I will definitely revisit both. SPQR was alright but battles took sooooooo long and loading up on skirmishers was the way to go. Javilins had an attack of like 95 or something!

deserves it...only mod that gets as much play time from me is RS, even that doesnt get much...RTR i cant handle anymore, the EB graphics just blow it away. Great mod, well balanced, deserves #1 spot!

Congrats! I havent tried the other mods on the list so i can not compare those, but i have played EB since 2007 and that is much longer than the majority of games/sims i have bought over the years.
Only EB could sit on that throne ^^
To me it's the perfect game, I've never played anything else for so long...
Congratulations and thank you for this masterpiece :)

Congratulations! You definitely deserve the title.
Although I am a bit surprised by some of the other inclusions on the list.
Yeah.. I still remember Medieval: total war XL, kept me playing Med 1 until my new computer refused to run it :/
Sad it didn't make the list :/

Certainly deserved!
Great work, every EB member out there, you absolutely deserve this!

A big hand to my fellows, of whom I have only had the grace of joining relatively recently.
Cheers!
EDIT: Heh, I notice that the other major mod I work for, BC, also placed high, at #4.

Congratulations! Honestly though, how could EB not have been ranked at number 1!
I can probably go as far to say EB is the best game I have ever played.

Its great to see EB there - and thoroughly deserved - but some of the other choices are a little questionable IMO. And certainly the ommission of Stainless Steel does take away a lot of the list's credibility in my eyes.

Hmm... They also seem to have been rather, shall we say, selective in how they chose to trumpet the advantages of each mod, like how they specifically pointed out that Surrectum allows you to recruit certain units only from certain provinces, but completely fail to mention that EB does the exact same thing. Indeed, the way they word it, they make EB sound both overly bookish and unfun as well as Barbarian-centric, probably not on purpose (they did, after all, but EB at the top of their list), but it does point to a certain degree of, frankly, incompetance on their part.
I mean really, "five new factions to diversify the barbarian forces"? Say what!? At most there is only one more "Barbarian" faction in EB compared to RTW, and that's only if you count Saka as being barbarian!* And even if you do, they and either the Aedui or Arverni are only two of the five new factions in EB, with Eperios, Saba and Baktria not being "barbarian" factions at all and the old "barbarian" faction of Thrace actually having been removed! Seriously, where do these people get off?
*In RTW the "barbarian" factions were Spain, Britannia, Gauls, Germans, Dacia, Thrace and (if you count them) the Scythians. Thrace effectively became the Arverni (I tend to count the Aeudi as being the carry-over of the "Gauls" faction from RTW simply because of the similar faction symbol), which leaves Saka (if you count it) as the only "barbarian" faction EB has in excess of the number of such factions RTW had.
Congratulations! A recognition well-deserved.
Cool stuff. I think EB and indirectly Rome:TW has been the game I have played the most in my life. Other mods on that list are also good but Broken crescent is my next favourite there.
Total Conversion mods just feel so much more fun when they are done right.

An absolutely well-deserved recognition of the splendid work done - carry on, EB team ;)
Not only a deserved accomplishment, but more importantly an earned one. I have played many games, and more specifically many mods for various TW series games. I admire and respect the developers of all of these games and TW mods because of the efforts that must be put in to create them. But I have a special place for EB in my gaming life, insofar that even after I stopped gaming, EB remained and still remains to this day there for me to play when I please. Even during months that I do not play, I still enjoy spending time on the forums and seeing what people have to say. And of course I love summers the most, because of the epic clashes that occur between teams of players! Best times ever.

I found the link to that list on Rockpapershotgun.com (my fav gaming site), and it made me happy to see the best TW mod and one of the best (if not THE best) in gaming mods overall. I have not played in a month, but I know it is only a matter of time before I stay up late admiring my phalanx line.
PS: Seriously, I just love it when I assemble a full successor army... if it were not so late right now, I would go play right away!
By the way, as most of you may know, Steam is where anyone looking to purchase Rome: Total War would turn to today. I simply wish to note that these top ten mods will receive notice by anyone who is purchasing or already has purchased Rome from Steam. Here is a screenshot for a more tangible idea:
