A fun thread (at least i hope :clown: ).

Post questions that you think many people will not know the answer, but you will. Once a question has been answered, the one who answers it, can ask a new question. I hope it makes sense... I think this is a fun way to enhance our knowledge of a rough EB timeframe.

So, my question is as follows :book:

Why the the Romans call the Numidians the way they did - Numidiae?

This does sound quite fun!

If not, I guess appearance?

It's from Latin nomas, meaning "wandering shepherd (the genitive is nomadis - that's where our word 'nomad' comes from)

I got about half without help. Couldn't spell viriathus and xanthippos properly though. Also, two handed lance could be either xyston or kontos. Either one works there.

Ah shoot, I did it again, I used an 'o' when I meant to use a 'u', I'll have to give that one to you. 8 across is 'Pyrrhos'.

I thought both were accepted spellings?

Yeah, but 'u' is more commonly known, as with Xanthippus/xanthippos.

Lol if I ever study history it will be EB's fault if I write Krete, Seleukos I Nikator etc.:clown:

I did much better at this one, I mistook the Illyrian pirates for Cilicians..

Eww. I hate those latinized spellings of non-Latin words. Overall nice quiz though.
I couldn't figure out what "chickpea" meant. One of the very few English words I haven't yet come across.
