View Full Version : Creative Assembly Preview Images for Custom Maps

The map images for the system maps are in \battle\mapimage and are 716x120x8bpp LBM files.
Ideally you should put a picture in each subdirectory for what the map looks like in each terrain type which it supports, and in winter.
I haven't tried putting pictures named after a custom map into those directories; it might work.

ok that took me all of 15 seconds
and yes it works fine.
I am now looking at the "copy of acre"
map if everything in this game
could be achieved that easy
I could get a life again http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Btw is there a difference between
coustom maps and the ones CA gave us
apart from the fact they don't
support the package they gave us to make
maps.If so my information above is not
exactly correct and if not
it must lead me to ask.
Why did GilJay not think of this?
This is what makes me think I'm
the one missing something here.
Could someone please explain
this.
I'm very confused.

I have successfully made the scrolling map image for my custom map using Ultimate Paint. It's quite easy since it can read tga and output lbm. I just made a screen shot in the editor using F2, input that to Ultimate Paint, cut a section of the image into the buffer, resized the main image to 716x120, pasted the view I want from the buffer into that, adjusted contrast and brightness and saved it as an 8 bit lbm file to the correct seasonal /mapimage folder with the same name as my custom map.
Doing that gives a discontinuity between the left and right edges as the map scrolls. This isn't really a bad thing since you can use it to put the center of the map in the center of the scrolling map image. I don't know how the devs got that seamless wraparound scrolling. It's a bit deceptive since you cannot tell where the center of those seamless maps is located.
BUMP
NOTE:- use ultimiate paint (available from the Org downloads, all other lbm converters have failed to produce working maps so far - good luck
