View Full Version : Atargatis is The Worst Possible Temple Choice

Oh god I don't even know how to describe this temple line for the Seleucids. Statistically speaking it would be the best for far flung coastal cities....or any high trade cities for that matter. The problem is it seems to promote god haters in abundance.
I don't have many past "Hates the Gods" with my Seleukos temple line, but most of my coastal cities have Atargatis for trade and law...and already two of my awesome 10 management generals, one in Halikarnassos, are going on a one way trip to the Atlantic for their Sacrilege to other Gods trait.
Does anyone have any advice on which temple line I should go with now? I wish to avoid Atargatis like the plague, but as AS I would prefer high law bonuses that don't give unrest boosting traits. Oh if only I had Hayasdan's temple effects....

trying killing them off on death ships *shrug* only god-botherers get to live. Worked for the inquisitors 1k years later, I'm sure it'll work for the sons of Seleukos.

I don't specifically get it with Atargatis in my AS campaign. I do get the trait sometimes but I don't see that much of a connection with Atargatis.
For me, Atargatis is still the best temple. The only ones with sacrilege are in my heartland, so that won't really do anything bad to public order.

Yeah, I don't understand either. I tend to use either Seleukos or Atargatis for my temple lines, Seleukos inland and Atargatis for coastal. I've never had anyone from Seleukos go anywhere past "Hates the Gods" which should be the +2 unrest one. Atargatis however....yeah. Maybe it's just me, but do different temples give different traits/ancillaries to your characters? The Temple guide doesn't really specify on those and I don't have the technical know-how to look them up myself.

Yes they do. But I doubt that different temples have a different chance of your FMs becoming sacrilegious.

A 10 management general is consigned to death because of a single negative trait - what about all the positive traits you got from those temples? I suspect the good far outweighs the bad in these cases...

I always used Marduk in my Seleucid campaigns. I think those generate large law bonuses.

+10 unrest is nothing to scoff at, especially at places like Halikarnassos (which has significant base unrest to start with.) I should bring them back and follow Fluvius' advice about keeping them in the homeland, but that +10 unrest is just....
If I recall Marduk gives about as high Law bonus as Seleukos, but Atargatis should be favored because it gives decent law and trade to boot. If only they weren't so prone to getting unrest boosting stats.
