But my problem is i cant use it to play in a multiplayers games.....
Can anybody help me? is this way possible in multiplayers game? can anybody put this post in anothers forums ( so more people will read it and they will answer it)?
I think this is a good way to do our battles more fast and we ll be help to learn our mates more easily.
Please put here where this post is moved to anothers forum by somebody so all can read it too.

Hi CeltiberoAlba welcome to the Org http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I don't know the answer to your query, but someone in the Entrance Hall will no doubt be able to help.

Nice idea, but you can't do this in multiplayer. When you select an army formation this choice is sent as a network order to all the machines in the game. The new unit positions are then calculated using their local copies of the file, which will be different from yours. I expect you get dropped for being out of sync not long after you do this. (And you'll also get dropped if anyone *else* selects the Ottoman formation ;-)

If you persuade everyone you play against to replace their file with your edited copy, then it'll work. Otherwise, sorry, no can do.

While we're at feature requests: I would like to have groups of groups, setting up group formations for groups and sub-groups (and want them to stay that way). And perhaps being able to customize and save these formation in a more user-friendly way than Alba did.

Right now group formations dont behave well. Sometimes i find that when reassigning a group formation, the two units at the corners want to swap places, and my army will be in a mess for some time.

On a somewhat similar note, I have noticed that whenever I play around with the game-included deployment formations in MP, the game gets incredibly choppy. This is just an observation I have made over a few isolated events. Anyone had the same problem?

Interesting thread, which brings up (for me) a rather obvious question: how DO you change default formations to your custom formations?

Hello donovan and welcome to the Org.

The how to's of changing the default formations is on a need to know basis and as a result, I don't know. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

In the FormationData folder there are text files which contain formation definitions. Most of these are used by the AI. The rest are the named formations which appear on the army formation button during deployment, and the named formations which appear on the group formation buttons during the battle.

You can't add any extra named formations for your own use: the names of the army and group formations are hardcoded in the game, although as you've discovered, the actual content of those formations can be edited.

But you *can* add brand-new formations for the AI to choose between, since it just loads in everything it can find in AiBasicFormations.txt and AiSpecialFormations.txt. A little experimentation by the good folks in the Dungeon should yield more results and perhaps some winning new formations which will spice up AI battles. To facilitate this, and with Longjohn's permission, I've uploaded his documentation on the formation file format; it's in the beta/test area as formationdatafiles.zip.

No official support for this: if it breaks, you get to keep both pieces...

I may be wrong about this, but I think that if you edit the group formations, then you should be able to use your new ones in multiplayer.

Yeah, sounds about right... the group formations are turned into a set of marching orders on your local machine, and get sent to all machines... whereas the army formations are transmitted as a single 'use this named formation' order, which is then interpreted on everyone else's machine according to their local formation file.

Should've done them both the same way - oh well. Something to remind the Rome team about.
