View Full Version : A New AAR
I have been wanting to start a new campaign, but I can't decided which faction. I have also been wanting to write an AAR as I am doing some of my own writing for Writers Month and could use the practice. So if anyone is interested, please post which faction you would like to hear an AAR from, what style of AAR you would like to see (perspective, retroactive history, etc...), the difficulty setting you would prefer, and any house rules you would like to see in play, though I may not use all that are suggested. A note that I play on BI.exe, no additional modification of the original files.

Epeiros as a migrated Hellenic/Hellenistic faction. Your choice of Pergamon, Kyrene, Syrakousai, the Bosphoran Kingdom or Massilia. Done as a perspective piece, though with a good mix of images and text. No walls of text with nary a screenshot to break it up.
By 271BC you should have your new starting provinces and have given up Taras, Epidamnos and Ambrakia. No blitzing and no wars of aggression (except against rebels), as in you wait for the AI to attack you before taking territory. Even then, only one new settlement per war (I'd recommend getting Force Diplomacy so the AI will actually accept ceasefires when you've beaten them).
Am in agreement with Quintus here. i'd like to see a migrated faction campaign to Syracuse or Massalia using KH (for the pretty special hoplites). Light narrative is good. Maybe somthing a bit grand strategy style rather than a Robert Jordan-esque description of politics and what colour shirt the mayor is wearing.

Try something new. Think about it.. a jewish kingdom. hahaha
Saba, why not try a "liberation" campaign. You as the King of the Sabeans decide to "liberate" your semitic borthers in Mesopotmia and re-found the Chaldean/Assyrian Empire.
Rules:
1. Babylon must become your capital upon capturing it.
2. Use regional troop types ie ALOT of Babylonian spearmen.
3. No alliances with Hellenes.
Well, the biggest consensus seems to be Syracuse, and i would certainly love to try that. Epirus or KH? Hmm, decisions, decisions ....

Epeiros means cavalry bodyguards (and not bad cavalry, even if not as heavy as other Hellenistic types). Plus it's less damaging to the historicity (since they vanished first) than removing KH from Greece.
Uniting Sicily is a starting point as far as goals go, where after that?
Are you going to take things slowly (as in not destroying the Romans within 20 game years, for example)?
I will likely take things slowly and roleplay alot. And Epirus does make the most sense in other ways as well, Hieron was a very close ally of Epirus. Hieron was also a supporter of Rome and an excellent analyist of whether or not to get involved in a war.
I just bribed Hiero, but so far whatever I do he just dies the next turn, any idea how to get around that without editing descr_strat? I mean, I can just edit descr_strat, but I'd rather fix it in game.
I don't know if Epirus gets the Syracusean hoplites. Will you mod them in if you get them or simply leave it as is?
Or am I totally off with that? I do remember looking at the recruitment viewer back a while and didn't see them there. Perhaps I am wrong, or perhaps you don't really care about the special units?
Either way, would be nice to see your 'New AAR'. Looking forward to it.

remember that you shouldn't take him as the FL as if he gets a heir, the game will flash to his old "first" familytree (from the faction of whom you bribed him off).
so just take him as a general if you get around his 'dying'-problem. Anyway, good look, and I'm looking foward :smash:
They do indeed get Syracusan hoplites. I think I may need to modify descr_strat to make him part of the Epeirote family tree to start. Pity.

The RV hasn't been updated since 1.0, it doesn't, for example show that Epeiros can recruit Thorakitai.
The Units List (http://europabarbarorum.heimstatt.net/index.php?mp=unit&unit=hellenistic%20infantry%20syracuse%20hoplite&text=hop&ownership=any&class=any&category=any) on the other hand is up to date.
Useful to know Quintus. I have planned campaigns around the recruitment viewer. Will have to be more careful in the future.
Sorry I haven't started this yet, work and EB2 have been keeping me pretty busy. I should have some spare time in a week and half or so, and to be honest, which would you rather have, an AAR entry, or more EB2 progress?
Definately agree. I am liking your priorities there. No rush.
