View Full Version : The Most Important Day of My Life
Yes.
Today is the day I turn eighteen, meaning that in accordance with the Dutch law, I have come of age and am now an adult. I can buy drinks with lots of alcohol in it (which makes no sense), watch porn and buy pot and visit hookers legally. And I don't have to lie about my age on YouTube, too!
Do you guys remember when you turned eighteen? And for the minors here, are you looking forward to it?

Nothing happened.
I thought it would mean something, stuff would change, but nope.

I turned green, noticed my muscles increased in size and I felt the need to rip off my clothes...
Fortunately for me turning 18 wasn't so much a big deal, I've had a full beard since I was 16. So being 18 only meant I could legally do all the stuff I've been doing since I was 16. Although I did have a house party to celebrate, I went out to buy booze for it and I was hoping the guy at the bottle-o would ask to see my ID and my response would have been a happy 'yes you can'...but he didn't ask.
Only change. I didn't have to ask my parents to buy my booze any more, but I didn't have my own car at the time so I would still ask them anyway...

Cause the night you were here was totally crazy.
We took a bus and watched a bad movie.
See, i can drive now, I don't drink anyway...
You enjoyed playing E:TW on my (now dead) laptop though, right?
Congrats Haxie we can now legally have sex, check your PM
Happy birthday Hax, today is the day from where on you will not feel good about getting older. ~;)
Ok, actually I don't mind, but you don't gain many rights anymore by getting older from now on.
I remember that almost everyone at school had their driver's license at 18 and started driving cars, I didn't and still don't have one.
So being 18 only meant I could legally do all the stuff I've been doing since I was 16.
Same here. Didn't mean much to me.

18 was around the age I stopped drinking in any sort of social setting. Just to be different.
Anyway, I had my driving license at 17, so being 18 didn't really change anything.
Congrats Haxie we can now legally have sex, check your PM
I thought you proposed to me after I said you didn't hate Muslims. :bigcry:

Such is life in the Netherlands, I guess...
You should listen to Alice Coopers song 'Eighteen' to celebrate and relate! That is what I did, ah, what memories! :D

My adivce to you is to start drinking heavily
My adivce to you is to start drinking heavily
Better listen to him, he's in pre-med.
The day I turned eighteen, I drove my car way out of town, picked a nice secluded spot by a lake and drank the night away. Wasn't anything really momentous, but I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate.

Congrats. I remember 18 ... chomping at the bit to move out of my parents' domain, chomping at the bit to buy professional keyboards and get out of classical music and into rock and roll. A fun life consisting of music, relatively easy schooling, Dungeons and Dragons, light drink, moderate experimentation with other things, plenty of friends and girlfriends, hiking and backpacking and cycling all over the place, and light work to meet my modest needs (other than the price of professional keyboards and supporting gear). Plenty of free time on my hands. Basking in the security--though subliminal at the time--of having my parents around in case of emergency, and a quality collection of close friends that I'd had throughout my childhood. I did worry a bit about the future and what I was going to do with my life if music didn't take me where I wanted it to--but not too much, just healthy foresight.
Appreciate now for what it is! It doesn't all last.

To a point I did. I could finally vote.

I was already stacked with responsibilities, independence, and was winning bread for a few years before I hit the legal age over here. It really didn't mean anything to me. But it was nice to see the government accepting me as a man and letting me legally buy my first beer, though.
Strong, good-tasting Canadian beer, too. Not that piss from below.
yeah....I've still got some months to go. But seeing as the age of consent where I live is 17, and I cannot buy alcohol until I am 21 (though who needs to buy when you have the family fridge?), the only benefit would be the driver's license I can finally get (though a careful driver never gets checked....even when driving a neon green motorcycle), the cigarettes I could buy (wee?), and the voting. Yes...the voting.

20 is the big age over here.
18... not so much.
Congratulations anyways Hax :balloon2::balloon2:

Muhaha we can drink once 16 and screw 12 year olds when it's mutual attraction, our life kinda ends when turning 18 but most judges also want to screw 12 year olds, I don't want to do that mind you, but I'm not a judge

turning 18 was kinda boring really; it was just another day, which I spent studying for my calculus exam (I nowadays don't celebrate my birthday). yeah, I could finally get Alcohol (sth I won't touch with a 100ft stick), vote (which I did not long afterwards-I was forced to vote for Obama-still regretting it, being a Libertarian), watch porn (something I have yet to do-yeah, I'm that sad), have sex (forget that-I doubt it will ever happen), and hold a job more easily (unfortunately, poor pay). and I can buy a gun, and flip the bird on my parents (plan on doing soon, will NOT do, respectively; though I do want to get the both of them out of my business).
tragically, it also means that if I make the wrong move or Gesture without knowing-namely to a person who is younger than they look-that I'd get a list-that list being called a rap-sheet. (btw, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I prefer women my age +-1 yr)

...and visit hookers legally.
So, like, if you pay them enough money, do they just, sort of, like, you know, let you do whatever you want to do with them?

That's an awesome post, bro!
Actually I forgot that day was my birthday. That has happened a lot though...
I drank a litre of sloe gin and vomited in my friend's garden.
