Was thinking of buying an airgun, but guns aren't cool if you can't make holes with it. Not looking for the types of holes a Barret .50 makes, but I heard there are airguns that are as powerful as a .22 or even a 9mm. That won't impress PJ all that much but I don't get to play with the cool guys, but I'm allowed to have an airgun by my governherd, any tips?

edit, oh, and it can't look like a replica of anything military

The more powerful .22 air rifles are what you are looking for, particularly one you hand pump because you can over-pump it and them it will punch straight through a paint can and out the other side.

I've got an old spring-piston .177 air rifle. Pretty accurate, and fairly decent against squirrels and other small varmints. The newer ones are gas-spring, even more powerful and accurate. I think the one I have is a Weihrauch (http://www.weihrauch-sport.de/englisch/e_produkte/e_weitschussluftgewehre/e_weitschussluftgewehre.htm).

But there isn't anything that can shoot let's say a deer, not that I'm going to but it's simply cool when it's possible.

I don't think it is legal to use air rifles for hunting in the Netherlands.

But check out Shinsung air rifles as they have some 9 and 12.7mm.

Even a fly's big eyes work on me, not going to shoot anything with it.

Well you can still some powerful spring piston 4.5 or 5.5mm. Easy to maintain and might be best if casual shooting is your thing. And good enough to take out rats, no one likes rats right?

Didn't someone recently attack a police officer with one of these (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?80840-News-of-the-Weird&p=2053226418&viewfull=1#post2053226418)?

...I did find it a bit uncomfortably large.

This is why I can never live in Europe. A society reduced to air guns and crossbows.

I know some people who play around with airsoft guns (http://shortyusa.com/). To me, a plastic AK is never going to be as fun as the real thing, but the more pricy ones look and feel like the real thing and you can do one thing with them that you can't do with real guns - shoot your friends.

An air rifle is the only option for pest control if you live in the US 'burbs. Most municipalities frown upon discharging firearms in residential areas. With a decent piston air gun, no one needs to know. ~;) And Fairfax County sponsors crossbow deer hunting every once in a while, when enough cars get wrecked during the fall.
