View Full Version : Random crashes during play

I've been reading about this for a couple days now, and cannot find a single thread that has anything posted that matches my problems.

I just recently got a new laptop and put MTW on it, standard specs, Windows 7 Home Premium, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Card, AMD X2 processor, and 3GB Ram.

Games loads and plays just fine, but randomly during playing, the game will crash. And when I say random, I mean random. Sometimes I can play for a couple hours and other times it'll be less than 30 minutes. It always seems to crash when I'm trying to view a province or leaders stats, brings up the "Program has caused error which forced Windows to close it."

Has anyone had similar problems, or have anything that could help me out?

Something I forgot to add, this is my first post, so if I didn't mention something I should have, simply let me know. ^_^

This is probably as good a place as any, except maybe the Apothecary.

I don't think there is anything funky with your particular setup. The fact that you can start a game and play some is a good sign. Using the TaskManager, how much physical memory is available before and after you start the game? And are you running MTW in a compatibility mode?

Hello Gelmir13,

If you have not downloaded the peter_de123 "patch", then you should. My O/S does not use Nvidia drivers, but this "patch" has stopped ( to date ) many similar Crashes to Desktop that had similar warnings to yours. If you view the peter_de123 sticky ( at top ) post here and look for two of my posts around early May ( end of page 2 ), you will find a link to the appropriate "patch" site on Caravel's post of 7th May
( between my posts ), and some detail to help you.

NB : I still get a few "drops to the taskbar" shortly after start-up though, as the game does not like the various "tasks" that are run at start up by my Vista O/S - but that is a minor point and I just click on the Taskbar "icon" and the game restores perfectly - even mid battle!

Hope this helps.
