Medieval 2 Gold
(+ Kingdoms)
Was only $9.99 on steam,
So I bought it.
It's been a couple of years
Since last I played
And I never previously owned kingdoms.
I am weak,
I just could not resist.
That was money well spent. Install all the patches and go to town!

I agree. I bought the game upon release and still have it installed and play it. The kingdoms campaigns are quite fun in and of themselves as well!

Does the kingdoms one expand the area you can conquer in north and south americas or is it the map the same as from the original medieval 2?

The Kingdoms expansion provide 4 additional campaigns that are played independently of the original. One in the Americas, one tutonic (tutonic order, polish, etc.), one for the crusades and one in Britannia. All have there own factions and units that are different from the vanilla campaign. They are all quite fun, many say (including me) that it is one of the better expansions for a TW title.

So, I've been enjoying a return to the game with a campaign as the French, still recalling some of my old tricks/strategy from the now long past, example; sending my princess as the first move of the game to negotiate Trade Rights and 1000 quid from the Brit diplomat.
I'm also now remembering some of the frustrating tasks of the game, for instance trailing the two remaining princesses on the board (as they get uglier and uglier), waiting for the first king to drop, so that my next faction heir can get hitched and start making little kiddies all quick like. Hope someone pops out a decent broad in the next turn or two.
You can sell map information + trade rights + alliance + marry princess to faction heir for around 3000 florins. You can take their princess for your faction heir as well. All on turn 1.

France is interesting faction. However, really easy if you go after the rebel settlements in the beginning. Once you capture the rebel settlements and leave some time to build up your forces then you can easily steamroll over any other faction.

After your vanilla experience I'd try some mods like stainless steel 6.3 - esp as they are all steam compatible.

I'm still going at it, and trying not to eliminate too many other factions... although Milan had to go. I had forgotten how long the game takes to play out. I think after I get done with this campaign, I'll likely try one of the kingdoms expansions. Any suggestions?
Make sure to not have checked "Follow AI movement" or something of the sort. That will make for substantially faster turns.
I enjoyed the Britain campaign from Kingdoms, as well as the Teutonic one. Didn't finish them yet due to lack of time.
Americas was fun and different. All melee and on foot, save some archers. Only problem (in my case) was dealing with the colonials when they arrive with large armies time after time. I didn't finish it either, but might start a new campaign at some time. When I finish Britania anyway (good one too).
