Just wondering if anyone reached the new world and conquered it. My navy is heading in that direction with a lot of troops, but its taking a long time to get there.

I did once just for kicks. I think I will pass it up next time for it takes so long to get there. A couple of large stacks there too if I remember correctly. I didn't think to notice how controlling them affected my economy, they can trade with oneanother. But so late in the campaign I guess any monetary value from them doesn't really matter. I just stick to the Americas campaign if I am in the mood for such things.

You know what I really hate about that land coming into play in the campaign? It's that one city on the west coast of Africa that you cannont reach until the Americas become available. You can walk there but getting down to that part of the map takes way too long. Not really important I guess, but I still find it annoying.

I know what you mean. i was in the area to capture that territory but couldnt because i had to wait for it.

I sent 7000 troops on 4 full flag fleets. actually, with caution, I took the new world 15 turns (i.e 30 years) after it's foundation thanks to M2TW's fast marching. well, 2 days isn't too much time to play for it

That does indeed smell. So close to the other cities around it, it should be available to conquer and trade. No idea why you have to wait for that city.

I think I will pass up the new world in my current England campaign. Unless I go the conquer the whole map route. I have a ways to go at this point however.

I have conquered nearly half of the new world already. Its fast to move around on the land there, it just takes time to sail there.

Sailing is arduous, but fighting the natives, that I must admit is fun. Feudal footknights vs. those guys dressed as birds, very enjoyable! Not to mention the power of some mounted knights vs. all the natives on foot.

Even if you don't plan to conquer the New World it pays to send a ship full of merchants. There's a lot of money to be made in tobacco and chocolate!

A small force can take Cuba and with a settlement there you can create merchants when the first arrivals are finished.

Yeah it is fun. I decided to avoid sending merchants first. Instead i sent in my army first and merchants second.

To conquer....eh

To monopolize....can be worth it.
The trouble I see, as stated above, is that by the time the new world opens up, there is not really a whole lot of use in taking it.

Yeah i know that it just seems a bit useless by the time you get there, but for the soul purpose of having it conquered changes the whole idea.

Question: When does the new world become available? (I seamed to have missed it perhaps.)

When you can build caravels, sail west.
