Fascinating. Thanks for sharing. :2thumbsup: However, the thread title exaggerates a little: this particular dialect preserves the infinitive which apparently went out of fashion in all other (known) Greek dialects since. To put this into perspective: to say that this dialect is “similar” to Ancient Greek based on this similarity is like saying that English is similar to classical Latin for it uses the gerund, too.

Perhaps this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontic_Greek) article may be related. Under the dialects it says that the eastern group of pontic greek is spoken in Trebizon
