This is my first game on this forum, I haven't got a clue what is going on half the time, I cannot figure out who is good or who is bad. My role is Pliny, and when I got the role PM I didn't know if I was supposed to be good or bad so I even sent a night-kill order in to the GM (he gently returned it with advice that the only way I can kill people is with my vote to lynch).
Sorry if my posts have been without much meat to them, I have been gut-voting most of the time anyway.
VOTE ROBBIECON -- based on Skooma's argument.

The only way you'd think you had a kill order to send in is if it were mentioned in your role PM!!!

I hope you'll keep playing, the first few games can be very disorienting, and you feel ignored a lot of the time. I have a game I still need players for, (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?133559-Cops-and-Robbers) not quite mafia but it should be good.
So um yeah, you're still totally scum...

This was the final day of the reign of the most glorious Emperor Nero he who had ruled Rome for decades. The final vote takes place and as the senators argue it goes back and forth going from one figure to the next. As it is in many of these situations the vote goes the way of the man who has no friends in Rome, the loner more happy to be writing books then discussing politics. Pliny. Pliny steps forward knowing in his heart that he has not done all that he was supposed to have done. He has had no children to carry on the name of Pliny. However these thoughts mean nothing in the long run for today is the day the he dies. Pliny steps forward with his life running through his eyes. He had being in self imposed exile yet he had come back to help Rome and death was to be his reward? Nero orders the last men standing to take Pliny away and they move towards him. Vespasian the great General moves towards him, Petronius the great satirist who may have being involved but was not they take Pliny outside leaving Nero alone with Epicharis and Faenus Rufus head of the Praetorian Guard after the death of Tigellinus. Nero looks around noticing the senate house is empty. He looks at these two figures and realises far too late to save himself that he has made a grave mistake. He yells out for the Praetorians to help him but they do not respond.
Rufus walks to the Emperor and quietly talks to him.
We have had Emperors for the last 80 years and what has it caused? Nothing but heartbreak and pain. Today is the day that you die Nero and the corrupt Empire will die with you. Tomorrow will be the dawning of a new age the return of the republic. Do you have anything to say before will kill you, you fat blotted corpse of a man?
"I am ready to become a god. I am ready to meet the gods of the world it is a question of are they ready to meet me?"
With these final words the daggers once again fall on Nero destroying the Empire and restoring the Republic. This will known as the year of Rufus and Epicharis and will be remembered throughout history.
Meanwhile as Pliny falls from the hills of Rome to be gashed on the rocks. The two remaining loyalists return to the Senate House and find Nero's corpse the plotters look at them and ask.
"Will you help the Republic?"
Fearing for their lives both men say yes. But as they walk away there is a little smile on the face of Vespasian Rufus is a fool and Epicharis is insignificant there will be nothing to stop him from ruling Rome soon and this time there will be no civil war to prevent him.

And I am wondering: Did Secura kill ATPG last night because you thought he could be mafia without knowing it? Was Secura vigilante or again a friendly Serial killer? :smug2:
I'm interested to see the roles, because we had no special powers at all, and it appears there was a doctor, a vigilante, an extra voter, a council or someone to decide how tied lynches would end. From my perspective we were not favourite, or what am I missing?
And I am wondering: Did Secura kill ATPG last night because you thought he could be mafia without knowing it? Was Secura vigilante or again a friendly Serial killer? :smug2:
I was a serial killer; I assume you say again because I played the role in the exact same fashion in Shakespearean Mafia?
At first, I read my PM incorrectly; I was in a hurry, had just handled an infraction (and the fallout that followed) and had things to do with the Animus game, so skirted over the PM and assumed I had to find and kill Piso. After several nights of not using my ability, Blackadder approached me and told me I was supposed to be killing every night, I told him I was aware of this fact... but continued not to do so.
By this point I had already been pressured by both Winston and Pizza, possibly due to the fact that there had only been one kill and I had been inactive due to laptop issues; I told them I was a vigilante, as I had believed, but later came clean to Pizza that I was actually a serial killer.
Over the course of the next two or three day phases, I helped Pizza weed through potential suspects, but following Romanic's lynch it got to the point where he believed the mafia to be defeated and said I had to kill him, for reasons I still can't fathom. He said that it would be unsporting or something like that, so I went along with it.
Essentially, I was supposed to be the second kill each night, a balancing mechanic for the game and so on; due to my dislike of serial killer roles (I just don't have the killer instinct as mafia, that's even worse without partners to confer with), I basically decided to play the game as I was town, and then allow Pizza to reveal and lynch me at the end.
Had I not made the conscious decision to play the game in this fashion, the town would have had minimal chance of winning since they needed to lynch me and three mafia to win; in a game of only seventeen people, with two kills per night... I think that this is a bad choice on the part of the host.

I disagree with this. The serial killer and the mafia are enemies, they can't win together, so they are bound at some point to attack each other, helping the Town collaterally. We've seen 17 player games with 3 mafia and 1 SK in the past, it's not unbalanced. Of course the Town could have been crushed in this case, if they can't lynch a mafia before Day 5 (me) and if the SK doesn't kill a mafiosi, but it could have been different story if you did.
I disagree with this.
I don't expect anyone to agree, but my opinion stands. :P

Apparently it's "totally your style".
Apparently it's "totally your style".
Is it really?
Apparently it's "totally your style".
Referring to what I said in the QT, and why we killed you:
If ATPG is telling the truth about a vigilante/SK who chose not to kill, that would be Secura, it's totally her style. Kill her tomorrow, she's also a good kill for placing the first vote on me, making her look innocent.
ATPG gave us your identity when he said that a vig/sk wasn't killing. Who else would it be?
ATPG gave us your identity when he said that a vig/sk wasn't killing. Who else would it be?
Vigilante perhaps; I think that stems from the fact whenever I have had the ability to vig-kill, there's always been implied repercussions that would put me off doing so (Princess Zelda/Buffy Summers), so I generally avoid it; that's not to say I'll refrain from doing so, but there has to be good cause for doing so, I don't vig with impunity.
But for serial killer? That isn't a matter of choice or fear of reprisal, but more the fact that I'm utterly clueless under the pressure of working alone and having to eliminate everyone else to win; for me, there's no harder role to play in mafia and I'm never going to chalk up a win in such a role.

Play as if you are a townie and random.org a kill every night. That's what I do, don't enjoy sk roles either tbh.

That was intentional. I didn't want to waste a lynch on Secura, and I also needed clues out there in case someone axed me. If the mafia had killed Secura, and Secura had killed a mafia, that gambit would have been WELL worth it.
Secura was supposed to kill Romanic the other day, and then the mafia would have been all over her. It would have worked if Secura was active.
I do not apologize for my high-risk gray morality strategies as townie. They are more fun, and more unexpected, and give a sharper game against the mafia. It is who I am. This game would have proven my point beyond doubt, were it for a single PM sent.

Yes.
With due respect, Secura, Skooma, and anyone else:
Some people don't like being basic townies. Some people don't like being mafia. Some people don't like being vigilantes. Some people don't like being serial killers. However, when you sign up for a game you are telling the game host you are both interested in playing, and also willing to play any part handed to you, including strange, bizarre roles, anything they come up with.
You must roll with it; ask to be replaced if you don't want to play, or play the role as intended. Now, there's a lot of leeway there. You don't have to kill as a vigilante. You don't have to protect as a doctor. However, you should investigate as a detective, and you should kill as SK. Mafia have some wiggle room regarding bluffing with their kills. SKs should never go more than one round not killing; it's their mission to kill.
The game host designs a game with balance in mind. Not investigating as detective, not killing as SK, can ruin game balance for one team. Not performing as your role doesn't make the game any more fun for anyone, yourself included. You should, on principle, be willing to play the role sportingly or ask for a replacement. You should also consider what a pain it is to replace people sometimes, as a host, and keep that in mind when you place your name on sign up sheets.
Are you really interested? Think about it.

Oh do not misunderstand, my stuffed crust friend, I fret not over any role I receive and use what I have to the best of my abilities. I was just stating that when I receive such roles, I like to mix things up a bit and play out of the norm. But looking back at that particular role, it may have been a better decision to just murder unforgivingly instead of going against the grain and against the original intent of the role. I just like to experiment and not killing was a test of sorts that perhaps would have been better saved for another day and another role.

I think I was kinder in my assessment of that game than even you were, if I remember correctly. The only reason I won that game is because I worked with the mafia and they ended up getting overconfident and outed themselves just as we were both about to win. A situation that wouldn't have been possible if the host hadn't made it so they could win together, as almost a super-mafia family.
