Can anyone explain why the generals in EB have such an obscene amount of hp? I can understand giving them more than the standard soldier, but honest to god I have to swamp them with three units everytime and it takes a good 1-3 minutes just to bring a lone general down.

Anyone else notice how durable these guys are?

Well, that´s the traits "causing" the additional HP ( and for the AI there could be some hidden ones, too ).
To effectivly kill those "tough and near immortal" generals you need a clean charge on them with a medium/heavy cav. unit, preferably with "ap" lances ( which most are anyway ), once they are in a pitch battle. Use "ap" infantry like axemen, or medium cavalry with axes, to decimate them, or soften them up with your slingers a little bit before an engagement. Hope this helps.

I dont know why, but Eastern SLingers seems to work a charm on those humanoid tanks... they can give 5-6 casualties a volly if they have more then 1 silver V

It's to compensate for the stupidity of the AI, which tends to throw the general straight at your front line instead of keeping him safely in the rear. Once its general is dead, the AI has very little chance indeed of beating a human, even with a larger army.

You have brains (a clever general) on your side, someone like Ceasar or Hannibal. The AI has brawn (a general who's tactically stupid, but a mighty warrior, someone like Achilles or Conan the Barbarian.)

Yea, those "tanks" got no shield and your slingers got > 6 attack + "ap" to half their armour, and since missile weapons still have 1.0 lethality.... sounds like a small bazooka to me^^

actually, the best unit to take down generals in EB is massive human wave of low ranks infantries

The best way to take down generals is friendly fire. :wall:
Oh wait, we were talking about killing enemy generals?

whatever happened to just fighting and beating the guy, then killing him by pursuing fresh cavalry?

because some of them are fast moving, the most annoying of which come to mind are probably the Lusotannan bodyguards.

Yeah but if they are fatigued you can easily handle them with fast moving/very fast moving cav.

Falx-type infantry (Drapanai, Rhomphaiaphoroi, Indian Guild Warriors), with their AP ability and .26+ lethality, make short work of all but the most heavily-armored general [bodyguards].

I had a group of Indian Guide Warriors attack a Heavy Phalanx form the front and win one time. It was funny.

Yup,guild warriors make awesome assault infantry, esp for a faction like Seleucids, which lacks swordsmen.

But yeah, general HP are ridiculous sometimes. Last night in a siege battle had a Seleucid general charge the front of a fresh unit of Deuteroi (alone, had lost his entire BG in the previous suicidal charge)and kill over 30 of them before dying. Afterward I was like 'did I just fight Achilles or something?'
