View Full Version : succession game
Seeing the interest garnered by the EU3 succession game I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a tw one?
I was thinking MTW2 or a mod, 20 turns per player, at least a small writeup per reign (even just a couple sentences). One thing I'd been considering was playing vanilla MTW2 or a fairly light mod and then making an unusual migration (Moors to Scandinavia, for example :clown:) although a non migration game and/or heavier mod would be fine with me.
Anyone else interested?

I'd be interested. I'm also thinking of getting another Throne Room game going sometime.

I'm up for it as long as it's Vanilla M2TW or a mod that doesn't change much. Can't install SS or other mods cause I don't have enough free space for them.
Also, using Kingdoms campaigns could be interesting.

I can recommend the Byzantine campaign in Crusades for this. You get horse-archers, great heavy infantry, you can cut deals with Islam or Crusaders and ultimately you end up fighting the Mongols. Could be fun. I don't have time though, sorry!
A Kingdoms campaign might be a good start then. Anyone else like the idea of the Byzantines in the Crusades campaign? With the main goal being to survive to and beat the Mongols?

I have nothing against that. I always like playing as Byzantines. Perhaps because every other faction wants them dead? :laugh4:

Count me in... I might have some time to invest in something like this
Nice to see you're in, Tristan. ~
At the moment I'm thinking for settings
Crusades campaign
Byzantines
H/VH
20 turns per player
7 days to complete those turns (or inform us if more time is needed)
Goal: To make it to the Mongol invasion and wipe them out as a faction.
I figure we'll go in order of when players posted in this thread.
Does that work for everyone?

Hard battles and Very Hard campaign?
Hard campaign and very hard battles.

In that case I hope that I don't have to fight any battles! :sweatdrop:
We could lower it, H/H maybe? I just got into the habit of VH battles in MTW2 because the AI doesn't get the crazy bonuses from it they had in RTW.

I'm OK for the VH battles, especially in Vanilla Kingdoms...
However, I fear that playing the Byzantines we'll have a walk in the park against the AI... I would advise playing either one of the Crusader kingdoms or better yet change the setting and go for one of the smaller factions in the Britannia campaign or Lithuania, Poland and Novgorod in the Teutonic one.
Lithuania, particularly, could be fun confronting the players with the choice of keeping the pagan ways or switching to catholicism at some point. Plus Mongols are already there !!
I'll go with Byzantium if that is what everybody else prefers but I fear it will lack the challenge we might expect...

They don't? I have played M2TW for years and I find this out now?
You can go with VH battles then. I just need some time for some training battles.

I am quite sympathetic to this logic. What's the hardest faction in a Kingdoms campaign, Norway in Brittania?
Oh, and uh, I would like to join.

you guys could always set yourselves some house rules along the lines of some of the hotseat rules designed to rule out battle map exploits.
that way you wouldn't be able to take out huge AI armies with a few horse and the like. You could even play an autoresolve-only game where you aren't allowed to use spies to open the gates and where siege engines are only allowed to open the gates of certain levels of settlement.
this would slow it down and allow the AI to get rolling before you crushed it.

or, what about working together in a succession game to accomplish this challenge (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?131034-Competition-The-Noblest-Family)?
Hmmm...I don't know if we need to do anything too elaborate as far as creting a challenge, although if other players like those rules I'm willing to give them a try.
With the Byzantines I was thinking the Mongols would provide a challenge great enough to outweigh an easier start, although i admit never facing the Mongols down in the Crusades Campaign so I don't know if their armies are as big as in the Grand Campaign.
Norway or Wales are probably he weakest two Britannia factions, and Lithuania could have some challenges. I'd go for either of them (or even playing the other after finishing the first succession game! :beam:).
Anyone have any strong faction/particular Kingdoms campaign preference?

I can't stand purple !! :tongue3:
I thought Lithuanian troops were purplish...although it's been a long time since I played Kingdoms.

They're rather blue with a red insigna IIRC... Mind, I don't want to influence your choice, we could always go for the Byzzies... I'll put a filter on my screen
Alright, Lithuania, H/VH, 20 turns per player with writeup (even as short as "I invaded Novgorod"), start this weekend?

I'm sorry but I have to drop out from this game. I just don't have time. :shame:
