Alright, after seeing this, it's undeniable that civilization as we know it is heading down the toilet. In less than 16 hours, over 600 comments were posted on a status about a teenager baking cookies. Look for yourself.

I think cookies are very interesting! Also, quite yummy!

Well, lets give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe he had to do a cooking event for his class and he ended up setting the school on fire.
Clearly his baking success after his spectacular failure was big news.

No. Literally, he baked. cookies. and that was it (apparently they were burnt and crispy as all hell, but thats not worth 600+ comments)

And here we have people commenting on someone complaing about people liking cookies. Yep I think you're right PI.

I'm saying in 16 hours 600 people thought it worth their while to comment on cookie baking rather than something productive. as hypocritical as it may be, i decided I should share it.

And? If people never discussed cookies, all cookies would taste bad because noone would have an idea about cookies.

I say you should also read all of it before you complain that it can't possibly contain a worthwhile discussion.

In other news, actual threats to civilisation include climate change, nuclear war, meteorites etc.

Poppycock, "cookies" are the true threat to civilisation. Once everyone calls bickies "cookies" we will know that we have passed the point of no return and civilisation as we know it is doomed.

And of course, when the realization hits in the UK that biscuits are actually cookies, it will trigger a Golden Age for cookie-lovers everywhere!

'C' is for cookie, that's good enough for me, 'C' is for cookie, that's good enough for me, 'C' is for cookie, that's good enough for me, oh, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with 'C'!

This young man has step beyond the traditional boundaries of gender, and has baked himself some cookies. Not his momma, grandma, sister girlfriend, or some other random female. I for one am quite proud of this shining example of contemporary man.

Very astute point. Yet another which rather than support the thesis of civilization degradation, actually promotes one of progress, is that this guy and his social group have clearly gotten the basics of sustainability down and are now able to have leisure time for discussing special foodstuffs.

See, we can't do that, because then biscuits and gravy will be incredibly disgusting. I, for one, refuse to allow a bunch of redcoats take one of my favorite side dishes away from me.

That the chap baked cookies, is not degradation.
That people commented on in 600 times on a website, is.

I mean it's just silly. They could've instead used their time playing some videogame.

Or posted comments about the whole thing on a gaming website. Especially one name after a type of war that is total.

true. now you understand how bad society is getting? 3000 years ago we could never have wasted this much time and survived!

Husar
02-01-2011, 00:50
3000 years ago we would have hunted a mammoth once per months and then sat around a fire taking lice out of eachothers hair wishing that there was some way to post silly messages on a global network etc.

Oh yeah, 3000 and mammoths may not fit but you get the point.

These 'end of civilization' things are always nonsense. People like to mess around and do stupid stuff, waste a bit of time. I think western society is pretty work-orientated.

I'm pretty sure the 'big picture' is ACIN trying to have the last word in every Frontroom thread to bring about the end of civilization. :inquisitive:
