I have heard rumors of a Classic Mode for Multiplayer, but see no listing in the Demo Encyclopaedia (Encyclopedia).

Is there any reason to believe that there will actually be a Classic Mode?

Anything posted by CA anywhere?

Only this (I think),posted by leader of the multiplayer team Ian Roxburgh at TWC:

"Hi all,

I just thought I'd jump in and confirm a few things for you all:

1) There is full lobby chat. And clan chat.
2) There is a full 'classic total war' mode which works in the same way that TW MP always has. Key buildings will be able to be disabled by the host in this mode.

I hope this clarifies things for you all"

This seems to come from a discussion about the new features of capturing certain building on the battlefield map, which will then give your army certain buffs for as long as you hold those buildings (more ammo, less fatigue, etc.). Some players were highly against this as they feared it can lead to "building hugging" and mess up the tactical aspects of a map.

So I think "classical mode" just means that you can choose to play without effect of buildings, without allowing special units (which you have gained by experience over long time) and just offering the standard set of units to choose by the player for equal amounts of money. I would not expect it to mean, I am afraid, the classical STW1 battle with the units which were there, with all the unit stats as we had them and basically the STW1 engine.

That may be hoping too much, but you can always hope...... :clown:
