View Full Version : How does AI decide Koku harvest?

Hi,
Does the computer decide the annual Koku harvest based on the lowest % of loyalty in any of your provinces? My problem is that I had my taxes on 75% and my lowest loyalty was 175% and I still had 8 seasonons in a row of negative harvests!!! Damned annoying - I do not mind one or two or if I am stupid enough to have loyalty below 100% I deserve it but this was rubbish. How is it decided? Two years of negative Koku with no development or new troops killed me. This was late stage on expert level.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know income is not related to loyalty.

Tax rate of 100% means you will get what is in the province information (if it is a normal harvest year). If you set 75% tax rate, then you will only get 75% of the income -- varied by the good/poor harvest.

I guess you are probably having a HUGE army, making your upkeep costs exceed your income.

"Lowest tax" usually gives you very little extra to spend. You might want to put your tax rate as high as possible while your people's loyalty is still >= 100%. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

As far as I can tell, whether you have a good, normal, or bad harvest is totally random. I've had them alternate regularly and other times get 10 of the same harvest in a row.

Why did you bring 16 Female Ashigaru? Keep clicking weather, they're only strong one week a month.

Kiwi,

When I was still playing the campaign, I came to find that leaving the taxes on 125% gave me the best game. If loyalty starts to drop in a province, put some troops in there to bring it up. Some players leave the taxes low, and then boost them to 125% just for the autumn harvest. I tried to balance my building/training/upkeep so that I would not go negative with a 75% harvest. At expert, it's very difficult if not impossible to recover if your total koku goes negative unless you have a large army that you can go on the offensive with immediately.

Thanks everyone,
I had previously for some reason believed that the computer based it's decision each year on the average loyalty level (the higher the loyalty the better the result??)and I was keeping my taxes very low. Played it last night on 125% tax for most of the game and it made one hell of a difference.
