Welcome to the forum!

Read the EB-FAQ (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=84854) if you are new to the mod, very important!

If you have other technical difficulties, the frequent encountered issues are a first start (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103681).

Concerning your problem:
Modify the shortcut target. Move the end quote from the end of the line to directly after RomeTW.exe and it should work (goes for both the new shortcuts in 1.2). For instance, instead of "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -show_err -ne" it should be "C:\My games\RomeEB\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err -ne.

If this doesn't solve the problem, post back!

OK, we'll take another way:
Right-click on your RomeTW.exe and select "Create new shortcut", rename the new created file to EB.
Right-click on it and select settings. Edit the target line by adding: -mod:eb -show_err -ne

Use this file to start EB.

hmmmm maybe i am still doing something wrong the RomeTW.exe is that the original rome total war icon shortcut or something else? i clicked on the original rome total war desktop icon and created a new shortcut and renamed it eb but there was no settings option i put the -mod:eb -show_err -ne into the target area however i said that the name was not valid and that i should make sure the path and file name are correct

i put

You add.

The target line looks at my build like this: "C:\Rome - Total War [EB-RTW]\RomeTW.exe" -mod:EB -show_err -ne

And use the RomeTw.exe found in your main RTW folder, not the shortcut on your desktop.

Uninstall EB.

Copy a clean RTW 1.5 folder to a safe place (i.e. C:\Games)
Install EB1.1 into this folder
Install EB1.2 into this folder (exact the same folder)
Apply the fixes for 1.2 (link is in my sig)

If you have further questions post back!
