The title says it all. I wanna know if you guys know of any good (meaning historically correct and interesting) documentaries on Rome and the ancient world in general...

I don't have time to read much these days, but i can watch documentaries in the late hours of the day, so any suggestion would be great.

Thanx

The BBC did a six-part series called Ancient Worlds, which was about the known world around the Med from the end of the Bronze Age to the late Roman Empire.

There was another six-parter called Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire which picked six pivotal events in Roman history and semi-dramatised them (borrowing sets and actors from the production of HBO/BBC's Rome).

I never saw Ancient Worlds, but Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire was pretty good. You can watch it on youtube :)

The main page for it is here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00w0bl0). It's being repeated on BBC HD, but no idea if you've got access to that.

Could be the documentary I Caesar? I haven't seen it but it could be reasonable.

This is a link to the first part of Hannibal, Rome's Worst Nightmare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S_oso_J6dE

There's a few sections of it which are made for dramatic purposes and it really doesn't consider the possible reason for things (i.e, that the myth of Hannibal's oath and hatred was created by the Romans to justify their declaration of war - or Hannibal's correct choice of not investing Rome after Cannae and that rubbish Marharbal spouts about Hannibal not knowing how to use victories, and a few other points) but as a whole, it is well made, and does reveal at least, lots of the important events and give you an overview of what happened.
