What is everyones ideal dog?

I used to love Dobermans, not for the thug reputation (now taken over by Pitbulls), but for the trainability. A acquaintence of mine had one and it was amazing, it would not move without his command. He could walk it off its leash in the woods, run into other dogs (like my stupid lab), and it would just stand at his side at attention while mine ran all around like an idiot. (I obtained my dog full grown, and while they say you can teach an old dog new tricks, mine was too old and I was too inexperienced a trainer - first dog - to break its bad habits.)

A while ago a friend was taking in this woman to get her out of trouble (her boyfriend was a deadbeat drug dealer - crystal meth and/or crack). He could not take in her dog though...a female Doberman. I asked if it got on well with cats, she said yes that it had been around cats a lot and was fine. He offered it to me, I said I would try it out. The dog was amazing, totally untrained up to that point but within 8 hours was listening to me and obeying. Problem was I couldn't get it to stop chasing our cat, and after 3 close calls over a week I had to take it back before the cat just abandoned the house (or worse). That is when she admitted that her deadbeat boyfriend had been training it for almost a year to attack cats on sight. Nice. Thanks very much.

I might have been able to break the behaviour, but would my cat have lived to see it?

I was always desperate to have a dog when I was younger but I live smack bang on a main road so I was never allowed one.

I did a weeks work experience with the police, and I loved the day when I got to work with the dogs (German shepherds I guess).

I reckon I'll get one when I get my own place.

When my dog dies, I am going to get a pointer/rott mix. :) That is what my current dog is now, and he is one heck of a beast. :)

Sheep dog obviously, our current dog is called Roy after Roy Keane not cos we like Manchester United but cos when he was a pup he hurt his cruciate ligament around same time as Keano did.

Dog is quite old now so it's time for a replacment fairly soon.

Dogs are awesome. Going to get me a French bulldog one day, will have to wait as my cat will attack it on sight. The little psycho even attacked my friends german sheppard. Poor thing, friendliest creature on earth that dog, she was in total shock. I was the first friendly thing she saw and she nearly climbed into me. Sooooooo innocent
