View Full Version : Question about peace deals

In one of my current campaigns I find myself in a situation where I signed a peace treaty with a faction that I didn't think I could manage a sustained war with. Now they're gobbling up one of their larger neighbors.

We have no nontrade treaties or hostages or anything, and I'm tempted to fight them before they finish the other clan off and become too big for me to handle. Do peace treaties have any kind of "truce" period where restarting hostilities would lower Daimyo honor?

Not sure.. Try mousing over the faction in question and taking a look at all the factors influencing your current relation in the diplo screen.

If you want to be a bit gamey for the sake of experimenting: Save your game and declare war, then, mouse over their relations in diplomacy screen. If you don't see any "Breaking Truce!" then you have your answer

To my knowledge there is no honor penalty for Daimyo unless you're breaking an alliance. Though if you have any agreement that you break, you suffer "breaking treaties" penalty which is substantial and fades slowly.

You also get dishonoring treaties if you declare war on a former ally too quickly after breaking the alliance by diplomacy. Might be the same thing with recent cease fires, but I'm not sure either.

You also get it for for choosing sides in a war btwn allies, and for doing nothing.

You can't win:laugh4:

According to a dev post, you can't get the penalty for joining an ally: http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/14595-Official-comment-on-Dishonouring-Treaties

For example, if you sign a peace treaty and then a year later declare war again you will be hit with the "Dishonouring Treaties" diplomacy effect with all clans. This only applies if you are the instigator of a war, joining an ally will never incur a penalty.
In fairness, I haven't experimented with it myself.

Yes, I read that. All I can say is he's wrong.

Present Oda camp. allied with Hattori and the guy to the south of me. Hat declares on them I stick with my first ally to the south; dipl screen shows me as "dishonouring treaties". I know he's CA and a Dev blah blah blah; but what I see in game tells me the truth.

Ok I need to modify what I said. The only faction to which I have a penalty is Hattori; all others do not have the modifier.

I've noticed that too and it's a real head scratcher. I've even gotten hit with "dishonoring treaties" when the AI is forced to break a trade agreement (They lost a port and the ability to trade, ect). Very frustrating.

Frustrating and a source of rage over at .com; a bit of a glitch in the diplomacy system, I think of it as hating Canada Post for failing to deliver to an address that doesn't exist.
