Fifty years ago on this day, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to be in space. In a spacecraft Vostok 1 he made a single orbit of Earth and spaceflight lasted 108 minutes.

Director Chris Riley made a film about it called First Orbit. It shows Gagarin spaceflight as it happened 50 years ago.

Inspiring stuff.
Proof that nothing is impossible and that given time, there is no limit to man's reach.
It's a pity that today people are more interested in the conspiracy theories about how these things may have never happened and were all fabricated.
"They say another cosmonaut orbited earth before Yuri Gagarin. But he was not loyal enough to hold his breath when his life support system gave up."
