It looks like the admins have changed how to upload files here, I couldn't find the upload link anymore. This game is tough. If you haven't played Total War's previous titles extensively, then you are at a massive disadvantage. I remember one of my first MP games (back in original Shogun) I got steamrolled by an experienced player (I think it was Kocmoc, actually) and after the battle I asked what I did wrong and he told me straight up -- "your units were all facing backwards." Lol. I hadn't a clue that facing made any difference at all. I just assumed my units would turn to face a cavalry charge-- well, they didn't, dont, and wont. There are a lot of little things like that to absorb and consider.
The best way to flush enemy cav out of hiding is to cav charge the enemy ranged units or general. I generally charge against ranged units in loose formation and then switch to close formation right before impact.
You can also use a bow cav set to skirmish to poke around in the forests to see if anything is in there...with some support cav nearby in case the bow cav flushes out anything. If you are really brave you can use your general for that-- which normally gets the hidden cav to charge him. Or if you are really patience you can send some spear units around the forests with a cav escort but that takes forever.
If you have any other specific questions, go ahead and ask them.

Having troube uploading or finding the files?

If the latter it takes a bit of work. I had asked the same question here and someone explained it.

Well, to get you some quick help. Watching other people videos brings you almost nothing, if you struggle with the basics. You will see how armies and units move and fight, but your problem is more about basic knowledge and how to move an army.

Some easy first steps:

1. go to the MP-guides and look into the tread about "how to grp units and setup" You will see and read about how you create groups of units and can place them alltogether.

2. You have to look at the ultra basics - Spears beat cav and swords beats spears and cav beats sword. Its a base structure which dont work always like this, but also here, You can go to my youtube channel and watch a 20 sec vid about how spears destroy cav.

3. timeline of a normal fight online:

- most fights start with a shotout, since archers have mostly wider range than guns, you will see bows starting the shooting
- at some point one won the shotout and that force the other guy to either get a better position or attack you with melee/cav

This is a very very clustered overview, you can have a lot more tactical momentum with the different units around.

The shotout: If you setup your bows or guns, you have to be aware of 2 important things:

1. less rows = less casualties
2. open formation (should be shift-1) = less casualties
3. sitting in woods = a lot less casualties

Back to you cav problem. Hiding cav is only a problem, if you move bad and at some point the hiding cav surprise you in your back.
The best way to avoid that is, to send out a cheap spear, as example Ashigaru. Now it depends on the fund lvl you play at, but with your lvl you should play 5k still.

The spear will slowing though the woods and any cav will just retreat from it, the only problem you could get is, if someone has a melee unit with his cav, but this hardly will happen. This spear now walks happily trough the woods and if there are any cavs, they will get moved. No one with some brain with ever attack you spear with his cav.

It can be possible, if you get a cav in the back, but I doubt that you will see that happen.

The effect and maths behind that idea is simple. You send out a unit which costs you 350 or less (with retainer) to catch units which costs 800 or more.

Read up, inform yourself.

Yeah if they hit your spears in the back, the spears will take heavy damage and probably rout. You have to pay very close attention and adjust the unit's "facing" as soon as you see enemy cav start to move. If your spears are spread out in a long line, it makes them difficult (slow) to turn. Keeping them in a tight block makes changing their facing easier. You can micro-manage facing using the "turn" arrows on the lower left of your screen. If you "g"roup multiple units together and then use the turn function, they will all turn as a single unit. Very useful.

Kocmoc made a video guide for it:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?133834-Controlling-your-army-and-Hotkeys-including-Video

but the basic way is to highlight each unit you want in the group and then hit CTRL-1 (to make it Group 1, or CTRL2 to make it group 2). you can also highlight them and just hit G and it will group them into a group and give it a number. Then when you want to call up that group you just hit 1, or 2, or whatever.

you can hold down CTRL when clicking on unit cards to add the unit to your selected units without dropping the other ones you have already selected. You can click on one unit card and then hold shift and click on another unit card and it will select all units in between the two clicks.

Watch Kocmocs video and then try it in game.

The post I made is pretty much into detail, its a first good step to understand the basic grouping for units.
There are many other ways to control your army and in the end you should find you own way, depending on your setup and where you want to move your fingers. :P

It is a smart thing, to get into the options of the game and look into the keys, you can also change keys and create your own UI.

As example, I personal dont like to hit shift-number. I made me new single key hotkeys for important things, like open formation.
