So, I recently DLed FRAPS and am kinda bored, so figure I would do a Lets Play.

Buuuut. I'm not sure what game I should do one for.

Right now on my shelf I have Halo 2 Vista, Oblivion, Halo 1 PC, Republic Commando, and Morrowind (as far as non-strategy games go), as well as Mount & Blade (and Warband), AoE + Rise of Rome expansion, Daggerfall, and Call of Pripyat DLed.

So, what game should I do it for/what cheap game should i buy and do it for?

Also, in the offchance that anybody knows, does FRAPS work won the PS3? I'm sure it doesnt since it uses a unique OS, but not gettin a capture card and thought it might be worth a shot :/.

Boatmurdered.
But anyway, I recommend opting for humour - if you like ye olde CRPG, perhaps you could do Dink Smallwood; it's free these days. If not, maybe do a quick run through of Morrowind, I could imagine that being pretty damn hilarious. :laugh4:
Good luck!

Morrowind. Though I hope you have a big hard drive to contain all that footage.

Also, the free copy of FRAPS watermarks and you can only record for 30 seconds, just a note that you'll probably need a registered version.

wait wait wait what? 30 seconds? are you for real?

well in place of FRAPS, i DLed Camstudio. so its still on. but the question remains of what to play.

Let's Play? Let's Not.
LPs have massively over-saturated YouTube, and unless you can churn out the entertainment and information factor of ResearchIndicates (http://www.archive.org/details/LPTrespasser), your LP is doomed to the same fate as 99% of all other LPers (https://www.youtube.com/user/retsupurae).

Just don't.

I'm bored, so I'll at least give it a shot. I think I could pull it off :/

Anyway, I think I'm gonna try Daggerfall, since it's not a commonly done LP AFAIK, and I haven't already beaten it.

uno problemo, but maybe not.

for CamStudio, I can record from my external mic (which is on my integrated webcam), but if I try to record the in-game audio, I just can't seem to get it to work. it's not a huge deal, I can turn up the game volume and use the stereo output so the mic can hear it (or, since its daggerfall and nobody talks, just fill it all with my own jabber), but it would be nice to be capable of using the game audio as I hear it in the videos.

Or you could pre-record the game footage with audio, then insert your own voice in post-processing via audio ducking. This way you have a scripted video that you can edit with any dialogue of your choosing at your leasuire.

Oh I already know that, but that isn't the problem.

The issue is that it refuses to record my in-game sound, the sound that is routed to my speakers. It was giving me an error message every time I tried, now it isn't but it still isn't working.

decided instead to do Oblivion. Daggerfall can take upwards of 4 hours per dungeon, and an LP simply cannot take 16 videos to get through one dungeon in a game where you go through dozens if not hundreds of dungeons.

Obliv on the other hand has far quicker pace and thus can fit quests into single or double videos, which is much better for an LP.

starting today or tomorrow, probably tomorrow, will post links when uploaded

*facepalmfacepalmfacepalmfacepalm*

so i was recording for about 29 minutes, saved, quit the game and clicked the stop recording button, only to find out that it was never recording. Grrrrrrrr.

I mean to be fair it was only half an hour not a big deal, but still. the first dungeon of obliv isnt very fun to go through repeatedly.

Then don't redo it - not much point in playing a game that isn't fun.

Go on to some other dungeon.

I'm going to be fair here: Doing a Let's Play of an RPG is like counting grains of sand... in a desert... with a pair of tweezers. Hardly anyone wants to sit through 30+ hours of repetition, especially with an extremely well-known game.
However, there are other ways of doing Let's Plays... like Raz's suggestion of Boatmurdered. I would TOTALLY sign on to a succession game of Dwarf Fortress. Not only are they fun to watch, but it gives a chance for the community to participate. Another plus is that the only thing you need is the ability to make screenshots.

its not that the game isnt fun, its that i have now redone the first dungeon (which is required to get into the bigger game world) 3 times today, because my recording stuff is being stupid. camstudio is for some reason recording in a way that makes it extremely choppy. i just need my equipment to work and everything would be fine...

thats why i wanted to do Obliv. its alot quicker paced than most RPG's (and I've seen some very good Morrowind LP's, btw)

however if i dont get my stuff to work then this isnt going to be possible. finally i fixed the audio so it will record from the game and i can then dub it, but now the video is being eextremely slow and not working.

I really apologize for the double posts, but this should be last one.

I just finished editing and dubbing my first LP video, and while the sound quality isnt all together great, its decent. uploaded to youtube. any feedback is appreciated

Ok here's afew suggestions:
1: Up the volume on the voice, its realy hard to hear over the music.
2: Dont make it too sensetive. The sound of your breathing, mouth smacking, and that metalic clicking I think I heard during the loading screen is rather distracting
3: Try to entertain, we dont watch these for a walkthrough so try not to adress the audience over the games dialogue. There are several different styles and a rather good LP I watched is a HL1 called Freeman's mind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J80KD4BG7M) where the LP'er sounds like he is actually the character instead of just a player.
4: Make a script,or at least record the voice after recording the segment, the Ums and ahs make it sound umprofessional and any jokes you can make will take afew trys to deliver properly.

Yeah I actually got the mic thing twice now, so I'll definitely be turning it up quite a bit more, and probably turning down the music alot.
I also got that I should let the dialogue ride out some more, so people who haven't played know what's going on. That's definitely true now that I think of it, so I'll be doing that too.

I enjoyed that walkthrough of the beginning of Oblivion, when are you going to put your voice over in it?

Let's Plays are generally only funny to watch if they're about games no-one has ever played, like SeaNanners excellent ones about Minecraft (made before it went viral), or this work of utter genius:
