View Full Version : To Uninstall or Not to Uninstall....That is the Question
This is not meant as a bash to CA, but a simple human reaction to boredom. Having played the game for 40 hours, I find that I haven't touched it in awhile. Truth is I feel like it is just taking up space on my hard drive. I feel no excitement to play it anymore, because Medieval 2 and Rome are still so much more fun! Don't get me wrong: the graphics are beautiful. 3D campaign map: Awesome! Great work. However, the simplicity of the game so basic, I feel like I've been brought back to grade school. Most definitely, this is not the art of war. Maybe visually, but the depth of the game is like shallow water without any stones on the bottom for me to skin my knee on.
I am afraid that I have officially lost interest in the Total War series. Perhaps it's time for a new company, or staff, to pick up the torch, bring new thought, new creativity, and relight a once bright flame.
Best wishes to all. See you on the modding forums!!!

Sorry to hear that dajarvi, but it's just human diversity at work. I went through the opposite with Rome. I stopped in the midst of my first campaign when I realized I was not having fun. Why? Too much of everything to the point of being tedious. The simplicity of TWS2 that you see as shallow is much more to my liking than the complexity you see as depth in RTW/M2TW. To each his own.

For me, M2TW and RTW are not complex at all compared to Shogun 2. Unlike S2TW they have many realism issues and they are hardcore linear - same factions go through same stuff every time you play. Auto-calc is heavily screwed up in both the titles. Diplomacy is non-existant, and every AI eventually ends up blocking your port.
The most interesting TW titles for me are MTW and S2TW. The new Shogun really hit the spot - the only thing I really think is imbalanced is the Realm divide, which is imba in the way all factions start hating you and that it's never triggered by AI. The unpredictability of MTW and the years of perfection of S2TW are what I really like!
No need to be sorry, Greqoshi! I agree that RTW and M2TW were rather shallow as well. Truth is, I play RTW with Europa Barbarorum mod, and I play M2TW with Stainless Steel and Third Age mods (soon to be Europa Barbarorum 2 and Dominion of the Sword mods). Empire was fun every now and then with the Darth Mod. But I find Shogun 2, even with the Darth Mod, just not as appealing as its predecessors, gameplay wise anyway. The graphics are amazing. Vanilla Total War games have always been bad, in my opinion. And I've played them all! Modding teams are the real treasure!
Best!
