Not certain if I am unlucky or is it part of the game mechanics but apart from my Roman army no one else appears to 'at war'. The gauls are sitting in Germany - at war but they germans dont seem interested in re capturing their homelands despite having some impressive stacks. Equally they are sitting outside a few Gaulic settlements watching the world go by, one would think after 10 - 15 years either desertion, boredom or hunger would set in - should they not disappear?. Cathage and Spain declared peace after a couple of turns and the status quo has not changed. The greeks are all supposedly fighting each other but apart from making very long treks to northern Italy to attack me - across greek enemy terrortory nothing happens - no attack on the getai?.

Isnt the ai supposed to be programmed to defend itself and capture key settlenents which are considered its own, or at least challenge enemy armys tresspassing on its lands. If its just one gang fight against the player then why have different factions. Had a great game playing Audeli but everyone else was at peace which kind of undermines diplomacy side of business as nothing happens

In my games, the different factions beat up each other. ATM i play a very beautiful AS campaign, where the Romans have conquered Gaul and parts of Spain, where the now are beaten back by Carthage.

Are you activating the script (at the anoying advisor)?
In what difficult are you playing?
While in EB factions don't whipe each other that easily there should be lots of fighting around.
Actualy the most strangely acting faction in most of my games usualy is rome that almost never conquers italy and goes amok in the north instead XD And in almost every game theres a few random factions that just sit here doing nothing for long time (mostly Casse) but that should be the exceptions.

In my games the AI always fights. One game i used toggle_fow to look around the campaign progress, found to my horror that the macedonians had both Getai and Epeiros down to 1 settlement, and were expanding in all directions.
It was beastly s:

Playing at VH campaign difficulty is the best if you'r after TOTAL WAR :D
In my KH campaign there isnt a turn w/o a war here and there, which is so nice!

I don't share your problem. I had to send in eight legions to keep the Epeirotes from gobbling up everything from Lucarottea to Byzantion to Sparte. The Macedonians are gone after they were driven by Epirus to Mytilene and from there the Pontic empire delivered the coup de grĂ¢ce. Meanwhile, I sent 5 or 6 legions into Gaul to keep the Arverni from being destroyed, however after saving the Arverni from the Aedui, the Sweboz rushed in and destroyed Aedui, and now I've got only my rather weak ally Arverni between me and a massive Germanic empire. Epirus is still in control of Greece and is coming back into parts of lower Thrace, however the Getai are stepping up and holding their own now that I've got the Epeirote armies culled for them. Pontus controls all of Asia minor save Tarsus and Halikarnassos, and even expanded into Hayastan, leaving the Hai Arkah in control of Kotais and one province on the Caspian sea alone. Ptolemy's sons meanwhile stretch from Kyrene to Sind, and their client state of Baktria forfeited Baktra to their overlords in exchange for being allowed to stay in North India. The Arche is completely gone, and in it's place is that unholy yellow behemoth that is about finished destroying the Dahaen scourge and seems to be ignoring the Saka completely. Carthage is wedged between Roman Spain and Ptolemaic Egypt, and has nowhere to expand easily. Casse sits in Britain and rakes in taxes, as it has for 50 years now since conquering the entirety of the Isles. And Sauromatae wages a war against the obnoxious Hellenes in Olbia, and makes occasional forays against the Hai and Pontic kingdoms to the south.
The Koinon is limited to Halikarnassos, Olbia, and Rhodos, and seems content to defend their cities.

This happens when you play as Arche Seleukaia or one of the factions near them.

For instance the Ptolemy victory conditions want AS dead but you don't need to conquer much of their land at all, just Babylon and Antioch. However the victory conditions were made with the idea that AS would be weakened and eaten up on all sides like they should be but almost never are if you play on the eastern side of the map. but since i was on the eastern side of the map, the AI decided to let AS be and i gave up on the campaign because i wasn't going to conquer the entire eastern side of the map because NOBODY WAS AT WAR WITH AS FOR THE PAST 100 YEARS.

lame as hell

I am not certain of the settings but its proberly 'hard'. year is 193. Pontus and Egypt have amassed mainly AS lands but have not expanded for about 50 years and cathage armies sit across each other watching each other - akin to Korea today. Not to worry it means no battle hardened gold stripe troops to take out when i arrive!

Thanks for the thoughts

If you want the AI to start going all out then feel free to edit the default movement range of units. In the descr_character file near the top you will see the movement is set at '80'. Change that to about 130 or 150 and you will have AI nations that go all out. It will make the dormant nations attack and there will be no more quiet Pontos or Armenia. The downside is that this will favour (in the medium to long term) the larger nations such as the AS and Carthage. They will become gods being able to recruit in 20 different towns and asseble an army anywhere in their empire within a 2 or 3 turn period. Smaller AI nations can't compete recruitment speed wise for long.

Have fun!
