View Full Version : Noticing a lack of strength in my left hand.

Earlier today I was assisting the water heater installation guy move around some furniture and I noticed couldn't get a strong grip on anything with my left hand. After a very short while, around 5-10 seconds, my grip weakened so much that I could feel the furniture slipping. I first noticed it around noon when moving the coffee table and thought nothing of it until I helped move the couch.

There is a weird sensation on the back of my forearm when i apply pressure on my middle or index finger on my left hand. My pinky, ring, and thumb fingers all seem to be fine. There is a tightening on the back of my hand as well when any large pressure is applied. My hands aren't swollen nor do they hurt and I don't hear any clicking or cracking when I move them, so I was kind of ruling out the possibility of arthritis. Google has given me nothing and I hope im worrying for naught and the problem will go away when I wake up tomorrow. Also I dont know if its connected but Ive occasionally felt a tingle in my elbow and shoulder but those are at random and it could just be my mind playing tricks on me.

Any ideas are appreciated and here is to hoping i don't have to visit a doctor.

Maybe you should see a doctor, could be a heart-problem.

Have you been drinking alot recently. I noticed once after a particularly heinous night that my left leg was a bit numb the next day. I don't even know if this is a sign of over drinking or if I imagined it or something (read: I have no idea what i'm talking about)

Could be a number of things: tendon damage, ulnar nerve entrapment, muscular atrophy and the worst case it could be Multiple Sclerosis. In short, see a damn doctor.

Hand was feeling fine this morning but I went to a doctor anyways. I described the symptoms and he ran some short test. He said everything was fine but my heart was beating a bit fast but still within normal and my blood pressure was fine. Still not sure what it was.

I would have that heart checked anyway if it happens again, left-arm numbness can indicate a light attack. My sister had them, she had too much heart tissue, it was easily fixed with a laser

Oddly I have some faint pins and needles in my left arm/hand of late. But I only got it since an exam where I moved my hand awkwardly and I felt a twinge across my palm. A few weeks ago now.

Is there anything lasers can't do?

I'd say it's because you don't use your left hand often, try push up with your left hand, maybe hard in the beginning, but it will be better in a month

or try to start hitting wall/punchbags/someone you hate with your left hand, this is the drill
