View Full Version : The EBII Recruitment thread
Greetings to all M2TW modders!
The Europa Barbarorum II project needs more talented modders to its ranks, so we're calling you! The skills that we have need are the following:
Modelers
We ask for experienced modelers, even if not acquainted with the M2TW models and engine. No need to know about skinning. For this kind of work, we need someone willing to spend several hours per week, enough to produce 2 or 3 models per month.
Skinners
We ask for experienced and talented skinners, capable of working under the tight scrutiny of our historians. The EB2 previews have shown many high quality skinning works, so if you think you can do them as well, then this job if for you. For this kind of work, we need someone willing to spend several hours per week, enough to produce at least 2 skins per month.
Scripters
We need modders capable of coding the scripts that we need:
- scripters for tackling the large amount of traits in EDCT and ancillaries in EDA
- scripters for coding the buildings trees and complex recruitment options in EDB
- scripters for coding the campaign_script, where all the historical accuracy of EB2 comes to life
It is important to have modders with experience in the M2TW engine, for this assignment, specially for the traits, which are extremely complex. We need someone willing to spend several hours per week.
UI 2D artists
We ask for talented 2D artists, who can work in the culture UIs. For this kind of work, we need someone willing to spend a few hours per week, enough to produce 1 or 2 UIs per month.
Historians
Actually, this is not a modders "job position", but we have some areas of expertise that we want to reinforce.
We need historians who have a good knowledge about the following regions: Iberian Paeninsula, Bosphorus, Caucasus, Persian/Iranian Plateau and Eastern steppes. It's not necessary to have historians who know about gaming or modding or even TW games, but it's important that they have a good amount of spare time, because they will help shape up the cultural, historical and military aspects of the factions in those regions.
So, if you would like to join the Europa Barbarorum team and help producing EB2, then contact us in this thread or send a PM to QuintusSertorius or z3n, showing us some of your work and/or references to mods you've been envolved or documents you've written. This is an important part of the recruitment process because we always ask for your background knowledge. After that, we will get back to you ASAP.
Hope to hear from you soon!
I could probably do some decent UI work. I would have to ask for at least an example and a template though.

It's important for us to have experienced 2D artists, so please send us or post here some sample of your work in UIs, even if not related to classical age.

I haven't re-installed MTW2 yet. Once I do, I'll work on some stuff for that. I use GIMP, by the way.

Dummy post. Deutschland here.
I am willing to help with research, i studied history in Binghamton University (SUNY) and University of Leipzig in Germany. Even though the crux of my studies were late middle-ages Europe and Renaissance Florence; I studied much classical history of the Roman and Hellenistic world. The parts of Roman history i spent the most work on was the Roman "conquest" of Greece up until around the battle of Pydna and after. The different leagues and their antics around that time haha. In terms of the older Hellenistic world that predates when EB starts Herodotus is my most studied historian, his first-hand accounts, although exaggerated, are priceless to me.

As it seems to me there are lots of different mods out there. A few years ago I started playing and collaborating with RTR, but I was soon turned off by that awful map with loads of fantasy regions and cities. this is way I started making a new map.
It took me two years of research and work, but now it is ready and it seems to be stable. It is a complete rework of the original map going from Scotland to India. Everything is of unprecedented accuracy. You have loads of realistic mountain passes, river crossings, islands etc. Some rivers have even become partially navigable. The new rivers and mountain passes give lots of new strategic options that will make up for a completely new game feel. As an example: once you could prevent any invasion into Italy by closing 3 passes over the Alpes, but now your enemies have something like 17 options to reach Cisalpina.
The number of regions is 197 (the maximum) and all are historically correct with exact borders as far as known. In most other cases I used rivers, mountains and forests to define the borders. All the major cities of the ancient world are included and each is in the right location as well as their ports. Many city sites have been highly improved, for instance Alexandria where you can watch the city plant with the Mareotis lake, the harbor and the island of Pharos and the lighthouse obviously in the right place on the island above the harbor. Very soon I'll be showing some screenshots.
Now I need to fill this map with life and therefore I'm looking forward to add a modding comunity that gives me the best control and guarantees for historic accuracy.
I admit that I haven't played Babaorum and thus I don't know which map you use. But if you'd like to improve yours to a completely new level, let me know your proposals on how this collaboration might work.
Hello Philadelphos,
Many thanks for your offer.
Europa Barbarorum II already has a map based on the Mundus Magnus map from Rome Total War. It has been developed and designed in collaboration with the needs of the mod and the gameplay, and it would not be feasible at this late stage for us to migrate to a new map. We ourselves have had numerous historians researching the full the gamut of sources to put together a map that is as historical as it can be. TBH, I don't think you will find any established modding teams and mods that would be willing to move to a new map. The work required to do so is a lot, and it would be almost impossible for an established mod to alter their mod to fit the constrictions of a third-party map after it has been in development for so long.

P.S. The maximum number of provinces for a map is 199 land provinces and + 1 sea province.

Sounds really sweet, even if it is probably not possible to retrofit it into EB 2. Still, it's always good to have as many eyeballs on the map as possible because it's such a big thing that you can't really rely on a single piece of research to get it “right”, so it will be interesting to see if we've missed anything you found.
To expand a bit on Foot's post so you can see why your work is not likely to make it into EB at this stage: the geography and topography of the map are important but most parts of the mod which touch the map have relatively little to do with that.
For instance climate files are of course about the climates of the map, but on another level they are simply a tool to control how the battle field looks. So what specific climate is assigned to what part of the map is really arbitrary and depends on what you want a particular piece of map to look like on the battle field, more than what the climate actually is.
Similarly, location of cities or rather which cities make it to the final cut is more about what factions you have and what view you have on how your mod plays out than which ones are the best attested for a given date -- the map has to cover about 200 years of alternate history. RTR, for instance is (used to be?) strongly focused on the Romans so their map reflected this with a lot of cities/regions for the Mediterranean and the Aegean but far less towards the periphery.

We consider various historians on the subject of truthfulness.
For example, the same Gaius Julius Caesar was not a very good historian. He described the Gauls is subjective, but not objectively. We are looking at various documents to the truth, etc.

Thanks for your honest answer. I knew that it would be difficult to adapt and insert my map into an already existing mod. So I'll probably have to start new mod from scratch. To be honest, I have been extremely disappointed by what I have seen on the RTR map and it put me off from trying out other mods. I would like to check the Europa Babaorum II map to see if your researchers came up with something better. Is there a screenshot or a list of your regions or something else?
As regards the maximum number of regions I too beleived that your numbers were right until I reached number 198 and got a CTD. So I convinced myself that the correct number is 197 since two colors are needed for the capitals and the ports. If you got your map working with 199 regions let me know how you did.

Thanks for your kind answer. One problem is indeed that most mappers focus on one or two preferred regions and pay less attention to the rest. I tried to avoid this, but some of my preferences might still be recognizable (Greece, Italy, Germany). In any case I am creating game maps of Europe for almost 25 years (the first were done on cartoon). I know almost every angle of the old continent. Since I've been working on this map for two years and my standards are very high, you can be assured that the result goes far beyond whatever your mappers may have created in the past.
For now I have posted some first screenshots here:

That's a beautiful looking map. I see that you've based it on the RTW engine. Converting it to a MTW2 mod would be very difficult as the heights map is all different (we've had trouble with it). Additionally, cuts off a lot of the north that you've included in exchange for extending the map south and including Arabia.
As for number of provinces, there isn't any trick to it. You can have 199 provinces, and one sea province. Settlement and Port squares are black and white, and are not defined in descr_region. Best thing to do is do a colour count of the map and make sure you haven't got a wierd pixel in there that is the wrong colour.

Thanks for your answer and the hint with the weird pixel. I'll check it.
Well, I checked it, but I can't find any strange pixels. So I guess I have to stick with 197 regions, at least for now.
I understand that there are technical problems and a completely different another extension of my map. So it seems pretty difficult to implement it into EBII. But maybe one day you'll want to consider it for EBIII or for a completely different project. In the meantime I'll keep working on some minor features such as resources or rebel factions.
Hello Eb Team!
I noticed you have a need for a historian with knowledge of the iberian peninsula, I currently reside here (though i'm Italian) and would be glad to you with all the knowledge at my disposal. I'm studying Psicology at the university of Sevilla, we have a pretty good library and my history professor is an enormous source of information. Plus, the internet is always useful in case of emergency XD
Let me know if I can be of any help!
Hope I'll be able to collaborate with you!

Hey guys,
This is the only game I'm looking forward to and I'd like to help out. I'm immersed in source material right now, I just finished school so I have free time when not at work, and I've been plowing through lots of primary source material from 323 BC-312 AD. I can help with topographical and historical accuracy of the map, ancient Iberian, Mādai, Swēbaz, and Roman history, and coding ancillaries, recruitment, and building, plus some scripting and the like. I'm especially privy to lots of interesting geographical differences between modern and ancient world, water levels, elevations, fertilitiy, and resources, OH man do I know resources. I also have a keen understanding of military as well as cultural and socio-economic aspects of ancient cultures, though I admit I'm a bit weak on the diadochi, I know my stuff west of the dardanelles prior the Antonine era, and everything else after it. I worked on RTR VI (check the credits (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwar/readme.html?sid=6134259)) and I hope I can help you guys polish what needs polishing.
Boris' Flumen, Mare, Terra, et Provincia Minimod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60692) -- Some of my work, a trifle but the last thing I put out before school demanded too much from me and I quit gaming for a while.
Hi
I have a lot of free time in my job (the most of the time I have nothing to do at all). I don't know how can I help you. I am a telecommunication engineer, found of history and psychology. I know Albanian, Italian, French and English. I also have some programming skills. If you need anything let me know!

We have some work for people capable with Java. If you'd like to help and want to apply below follows the “profile”:
You are “fluent” in Java 6, or at least quite comfortable with anonymous inner classes, generics, abstract enums and know your way around the standard library. No need to be an expert with the VM or intimately familiar with the language spec.
You have a good/thorough understanding of XML and specifically the SAX model for parsing it.
You are self sufficient, in the sense that you are able to work on your own for extended amounts of time and do not require someone to babysit you to see some progress. This implies the ability and willingness to learn/research things on your own. You have tenacity: problems solely exist to be solved, not to deter you from progressing at all.
You are able to communicate. We do not expect you to log your activities or something, but you will need to keep the team informed about general state of play in your project. We understand that there will always be that thing called “real life”, but we do expect you to let us know when it happens. It's no good to us if you can be summed up as “being assigned a project, saying hi, then vanishing completely for months ignoring any attempt to contact you”.
... With bonus points for:
XSLT (1.0)
JavaScript as implemented by the Mozilla Rhino interpreter.
JScript as used in WSH (for automating tedious tasks).
POSIX sh (idem, also used for stuff like release scripts).
Python (used for some tools, may be needed in future for updating/porting work of stock community tools once Python 2.x finally has gone the way of the dodo.)
C
C++
To put that in some context: internally we have a tool which can convert our unit descriptions (in XML) into a RTF representation (hackish, true, but works as it's really basic RTF code) for proofing by people who don't like to stare at walls of monospaced text with tags in a text editor. That's the sort of side project that occasionally crops up. Another (ongoing) example: reverse engineer the event DAT file structure and write a tool to generate that binary from source code.

I'm so sorry Tellos I am a telecommunications engineer. I don't have experience with java or XML.
Man, i'm a huge fan of TW, and even more EB:TW. I can't skin or model, but I really wish to learn, i have plenty of time. Could someone teach me so I can help you? I have smething like at least 3 hours a day to model/skin. I'm a great hand drawer (being modest xD), if it matters...
EDIT: I mean, i would love to learn how to model and skin, and if i worked on EBTW, that would be really good to my future "Modding Curriculum" xD I really love mods from Total War, as it looks to be easier to mod than a lot of other games, as most games have really few mods. Anyways, I want to learn, help you, and i have a LOT of useless time at the afternoon when i sleep =/ I know, it's pretty depressing to sleep 15 hours a day...
Sorry MarcoA, but due to how we busy are with the mod and our real life commitments, no one on the team has the free time to teach people how to skin and model, you will need to do that on your own.
If you are really serious about learning then there are plenty tutorials on modelling and skinning to be found on youtube and the internet in general. There are also quite a few tutorials to be found in the mod workshops of this site and the TWC. When you feel you are sufficiently skilled, try making a sample model or texture (it doesn't have to be both) and post some pics back here so we can assess you work. Best of luck!

Hi!
Do you still need historians for the Iberian Peninsula? I'm portuguese, and although I'm not a historian, I graduated in economics, have a masters in management, and I huge interest in history. I'd like to help, not only 'cause I think you're doing an amazing job, but also 'cause this way I can learn more. I'd have no problem in reaching out to faculty departments, museums and other institutions who might help providing knowledge. We have a lot of information about the celtic and roman periods.
Let me know, maybe I can help somehow!
Hello,
I am not sure if you are in need of any help right now, but I thought I'd volunteer since I'm almost desperate for a new hobby.
Here are a few things I'm skilled at:
- scripting in Python (I do this at work and school)
- modeling in SketchUp (is it possible that I could make city models in SketchUp for use with the mod? I'll put some time into researching this)
- English (need proofreading?)

As you know most of the research is done and you need to show knowledge of that field. Also you didn't mention in what area do you wan't to help(unit research, province and/or unit descriptions, etc.)
However that is an area where we would need assistance.

I would like to apologize for that, I've re-checked that and the thing is we don't really need concept artists as that's not what we are missing and wouldn't really help the development.
Also you showed too little, a nice concept of Hye Sparapet and some unfinished drawings...
However you clearly have some Photoshop skills which could be used for unit skinning and some modelling skills for some campaign map work.(watchtowers, forts, ports, characters, etc.)
So the areas where we need help would be: UI(design work, campaign and battle GUI), units(modelling and/or skinning), campaign map.
I'll forward your submission to the team and the meantime I would like to know in what area you would like to contribute.
You can PM for any further questions.

Hello.
I was a History Major who has recently graduated and find that I have a lot of time on my hands right now. I specialized in American, Irish, and Scottish history. Particularly the religion of the Picti. I just downloaded EB and think there could be some creative additions to the Britain and Ireland in regards to the religion at the time (certain gathering places and religious no-mans-land information sharing and market gathering zones would make for interesting additions should you be able to incorporate them). I have access to some books that clearly label where assorted Picti tribes were located when the Romans dealt with them. I would be happy to send you that information and help with development. I also think the historical battle of led by the Pict Calgacus (Pict losses 10,000 : Roman losses 360) would make for an interesting addition to the game. I also have done a lot of research on ancient biological warfare across the world during this time, such as Hannibal's snake catapults, scorpion bombs, methods of poisoning cities, and the poison arrows of the Steppe people.
Shoot me a mail if you are interested. I don't know how you could incorporate biological warfare, but if you could figure it out, it would make a wonderful addition to the game.
Thanks,

Most of the research is done and we lack the manpower to coordinate new members in these areas.

Now I know I'm probably going to have the same problem as Ocean (as you guys seem pretty well off as far as the historic research area of expertise), but I'll give it a try anyway.
Now I may not have much more to offer to the team at this point, but I'm currently studying at the University of Illinois at Chicago, working on a major in anthropology. I'm planning to go into classical archaeology. As such, I have taken numerous courses in Latin, Mediterranean and Near Eastern art, classical history, and archaeology. If you feel like you could use my help, I'd be willing to devote a good many hours into research.
If your interested, just let me know, yet I know it's a tad late to jump on the research wagon at this point.
Thanks.

the work there is pretty basic, since it was just some learning example, but since it's started I guess i can finish it. walls and gates are fully functionnal, 30% of the map is made and textures used are vanilla ones, so it can still be a lot more improved. of course it's repetitive, that's to be expected.
so, just to let you know, but I guess there might be a few problems with it (the time frame to have such forts and historical accuracy: i'm no historian, i only took maps on the internet) and then how to implement it: i've got no idea ^^.

Looks promising. Do you think you would be able to model circular structures, structures with columns or add textures from outside of MTW2?

the circular structures would not be any problem, and the columns aren't except if you want to keep a low poly count... but since I do not make destroyable buildings, this does not come into account (the destroyed parts having the greatest poly numbers)
here are a few examples of what i'm talking about. those are from some settelemnt i'm working on for TATW. still a lot of work to do ^^

the textures from outside is no problem, but i only have gimp and no possibilities converting to my own .texture files, so i can only map the textures on milkshape without testing them ingame. or some other people could give me the customized .texture and that would work perfectly.
Very nice. I will send you a PM with an invite to Campus Martius once I have set up a thread for you to work in.

Ok, someone else will PM you shortly about gaining access to Campus Martius.

This may be a longshot, but here goes: I have a history degree, though not focusing on classics, but I own Livy and I'm quite familiar with the time period. More importantly, I do a lot of reskinning and remodelling in Photoshop and Milkshape! I've never created anything from scratch, but if you need someone to edit .mesh files or crank out recolors, retextures, shields, armor patterns, etc. I would be happy to lend assistance. Here are some pictures of my work:
These shields retextured from Caudillo87:

These strat map models retextured from CBUR:

I put the various helmets on these guys and gave them chainmail:

I'm also experienced in editing the EDU, battle_models, descr_strat, descr_mount, descr_character, etc. etc.
Finally, I write, mix, and edit music and have a highly musical background.
Cheers!

That sounds interesting.
I sent a PM to JRMC in the TWC. Do you guys still visit that forum?
Hi again Aba, yes we do but JMRC is away for the moment.
Alright then is there anyone else who can recruit me? I'm kinda eager to rejoin. I've been in hospital, recovering, and moving house and I just got internet. and I read that you can import buildings into the battle map. I'd love to do those if possible.

I would like to offer my help, for what it is worth, to the EB II Team in the area of traits and ancillaries.
In the past I have developed and published two minimods for EB - Spoils of Victory and my own take on Roman legions (as an alternative adaptation of Atraphoenix Extended Offices Mod, in which development i too assisted a bit). Besides that I have made a few minor tweaks in EDCT, EDA, EDB, EDU and EBBS for my own purposes.
I have recently at last installed M2TW:Kingdoms and tested that i am capable of modding that one too.
I am now taking my parental time so for the next year or so I will be with my kids at home, which gives me much more free time that I could devote to EBII than my quite demanding daily job had.
I admit that my modding experience is limited so far, but I am willing and capable to learn new things and I would not mind to start just as a "computer monkey" doing the more straightforward things.
If my help could be of any value to the Team, I will be much honored.

Ah, I had expected you to PM me here instead and with my current workloads I kind of forgot all about it. If you are up for it the job consists of analysing plain text and converting it to an XML format (using UTF-8 for character encoding).
Let's take it to PMs. Could you please send me a PM in which you give me a bit of an overview of what your knowledge is of XML (and XSLT, if applicable) ?

Hi everyone!
My name is Alessandro, i'm an IT consultant working in Rome , eager to give an hand with your wonderfull project!
I 've already spoken with Red_Devil and Haithabas, the first guiding me a bit in what will be my duties, and the second introducing me at this org forum.
In this time i'm getting confident with the md2tw coding system, but it appears very simple , i'm already capable of adding traits&retinue, triggering them in different ways.
for example being for a number x of turns in a settlement y that has building z, or if some other conditions are meet ( traits owned, region_id, not already owned and so on).
My next step is trying some more complicated trigger.
For example, i want to retrieve a "relic" from a carrying enemy general that has been killed in battle.(this evening i will focus on this)
If you have some other interesting tasks to challenge my coding skills in order to getting me more and more confident with all the script system, that will be appreciated :)
See you soon!

Hi! My primary qualifications are in historical linguistics and anthropology, and I have some interesting points to raise about a few topics mostly related to patterns of economic activity (particularly involving migratory pastoralists) dynamics of group identity, and the sociology of tiered societies as modeled by the MTW engine. I understand, though, that whatever contribution I might be able to make with those qualifications won't speed up the release appreciably, and in any case I think the forum is a better venue for some of those topics. I'm not sure how much help I can be - my artistic skills are not appreciably extant, and while I have a little bit of coding experience it's not as if I'm hugely in practice, and I don't have any experience with the MTW code itself. If there's anything I can do, I would very much like to help. In the very least, I've been working a lot lately with East and Central Asian languages of the period, and I could provide more accurate names for some provinces and units than those given in EB 1.2.
I hope I can be of help!
Good afternoon, Gentlemen
I would like to help with EB II 's development, as it's the first mod I ever played, and the most historically accurate I've ever seen. I'm familiar to various degrees with everything not related to traits/ancillaries, for the current beta of The Ruins of Arnor (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=353006) . May I be of any use?
regards,

Hi, im a computer science student going into grad school next semester. I saw somewhere that you needed scripters still. I have plenty of time this summer and would be interested in scripting or any thing else you might need like programming. I don't have much experience scripting in MTW2 but im sure if i could learn if theirs some tutorials out there. In terms of modding experience i have quite a bit in Starcraft 2 modding (i also have some 2d UI creation experience and modeling experience in my Starcraft 2 modding, but i dont really like it and i highly doubt id be good enough anyways), but other than that none. So if your interested in someone who has plenty of time but needs to learn a bit send me a pm and we can talk.

The will to learn and invest time is more important than the skill one owns. However, being short on man power we don't anyone who can actively teach. There are however many tutorials both on the .org and TWC when it comes to most parts of modding.
Someone will send you a pm soon.

I didn't want to "double-post", but in essence I was just asking if your "Outsourcing Initiative" extends to coding/scripting? I'm not ready to join a Mod Team at present, but I'm already porting a lot of VnV code over to M2TW so I would like to contribute in a limited capacity. My area is VnV's only.

Hey, I have read you need a spanish speaking historian. My only drawback is that, although I am a historian (got a University degree) I am not specialized in this period and less in the Spanish peninsula; but I could spent some time in weekends to read all the information regarding the subject that is only available in my language. So, if you find this worthy, PM me. I have alreday a archeological book on the subject.
What was your degree in? Which aspect of history?
What was your degree in? Which aspect of history?
I got a "Maestría". "Maestría" is not equivalent to a Masters. Although Maestría is a degree you take after getting the career degree, you have to write a thesis and assist to seminars 2 years. In my country we know this post-degree as "posgrados". There are two "posgrados": Maestría: 2 years; and Doctorado (Ph.D.) 4 to 5 years. For the basic degree or "grado" (4 years in humanities) you have to write a thesis too. Well, I know you didn't asked this, but I thought it could be an element to consider. I'm specialized in History of Ideas and my degree was in History (just like that), though my thesis treats early XX century. I know my subject has almost nothing to do with the EB scope, but I thought I could help due to my history and spanish knowledege and, of course, the EB passion.

Hello, I am a huge fan of Europa Barbarorum, I found about the mod 3 months ago and when I heard that EBII is being made I got really excited. I do not know if the help I want to offer can acctually be used, but if it can I am more than glad to help. I have a fairly good knowledge on the ancient greek languege. Being a greek my self I have studied more than 6 years in school of ancient greek. I got really excited when I heard the units in game, speaking/using ancient greek words and phrases, it was awesome. But some of them are pronounced wrong unfortunately, so I thought maybe I could help with the units voices for the greek speaking factions and the mercenary units. Maybe to add some cool phrases too if you need (by the way the ones that are used in EB are awesome, great job from you guys to put so much effort in the speaking element of the units in every faction). As I said, I am more than willing to help (the only reason i made an account in totalwar.org :P) If my help isn't needed, no biggy ;) Its still an awesome mod without the proper pronounciation. Good luck and keep up the awesome work, I am sure I will enjoy EBII more than Rome 2 ;):P

Ah but they are supposed to not sound like Classic or Attic Greek as in this time it was Koine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koine_Greek) that was spoken and written predominantly. Attic Greek is from before our time frame and mainly restricted to Athens. Later it was readopted due to Athens cultural heritage during it's heydays. Which were seen as the heydays of Greek culture in general.
Well, he never said he was talking about Attic Greek. What's normally taught is koiné (at least in my country's classical studies).
Emilius Maximus
05-31-2013, 09:20
Well, Ulises is right. What we are taught is Koine after the first 2 years (which are "Homeric" time greek). And the reason why Koine greek is taught even in the Universities is because if you know how Koine greek works its very easy to read the other dialects too. Because attic greek was just a dialect with minimal differences from the common greek. Same with all the other dialects. The irony is that even today thats how the things work with modern Greek. We learn in school the common modern greek but still there are areas that kept their own dialects, for example greco-Pontians still speak differently, same with the Cretans, Cyprians, Macedonians, Thracians, Eperotians, Thessalians and so on.. They still have their own dialects but every one can understand each other. I believe thats what it used to be back then too. Anyways, my point is I can tell the difference and if you need to go in that much detail, I can still help if you need me to, with the dialects and all.
Ah okay, here they teach Attic at college and only Koine to those who study classical history of philology at university.
I'll put you into contact with paullus, I think he's in charge of the Greek language these days. The ones from EB I are either inactive or now have another focus of work.
Hi, I already posted in the same thread on TWC, but no one replied in some days, so am trying here (other forums are also not letting me make some posts, saying it has forbidden words...)
Anyway, I'm an old EB fan, having played since EB1 Beta, and have been following EB2 since the start (although I don't post much)
Got a lot of free time now, and would love to help in any way you need. Got 20 years programming experience (almost no modding experience though, besides minor tweaks in the original EB script), and could help in anything besides history and graphics.
Please PM if interested ~:)

Hello,
I'm a professional programmer who recently found my way back into the Europa Barbarorum universe (I played 0.74 and 0.8) quite a while back. I've recently been enjoying EB 1.2 and am very excited for EBII. I'd really like to see it get into Open Beta and I'd like to offer my services in programming / scripting if they are needed. I know that at this stage in any development project its a risk bringing on a new person but if you need the manpower I'm all for it. I don't have experience in TW modding but I constantly have to learn new programming techniques and libraries at my job so I'm not too concerned about it. I'd say that the best place I could be of help is if you need assistance scripting things that you already have working examples of (an example would be if you needed a building scripted, I'm sure you have lots of examples of that floating around somewhere). Please PM if interested.
Thanks,

Hey
I'd like to offer my help with any .tga building icons you need created. From the twitter updates I'm guessing your EDB is rather large so you'll be needing a couple of thousand images sorted, created, arranged. maybe I could help taking on a culture or two. I've never tried skinning before but if I can help keep your current artists skinning all's good. If you feel I could be of any use to you guys pls contact on TWC. (Same username).

Hello All
This message is for Brennus, I was directed here by Halthabas after writing a message there in the TWC EBII recruitment thread, which went like this:
"I'm a History & English graduate with some 40 years' experience in wargaming and more or less constant study of ancient history (total autodidact in this case). Example: currently reading up on Castro culture in Galicia, Spain, where I live. Access to a number of local databases and fluent Spanish speaker, useful for reading research by academics like F. Quesada Sanz.
I'd love to help out on what I regard as a true labour of love, EB is the first game I've encountered that gets close to the spirit and feel of the period, so if you're interested in help on the research front, especially on Iberian and Celiberian material, I'd be delighted to assist in any way I can."
Halthabas said that there might be in interest in my being a Spanish speaking researcher for work in on the Iberian/Celtiberian front, so, once again, please do count on me for help in that or any other direction.
Thanks again (especially to Halthabast) and all the best

Hello, I have tremendous respect for Europa Barbarorum's historical scholarship and gameplay. I do not currently have any skills in coding or experience in modding. However I would consider it a privilege to be able to help the development of this mod. And while I don't currently have skills or experience modding, that doesn't mean I can't learn if you just suggest that I go read heavily about other projects and guides for modding if that's what you need but just haven't had the manpower to do so. I'll also be happy to help with some of the more mundane work that doesn't involve a great deal of learning new skills.
How about proofreading? Are you a native english speaker and have a good grasp of the language grammatically and stylistically?
Arkkataka
09-13-2013, 22:04
I am a native English speaker, and I'd be happy to help proofread. While I don't know what you would measure my skill in writing English against, I regularly write cases for debate that depend on making ideas very clear and concise.
Correction: I read through the regional descriptions and saw that you used British English so that question is answered.
Well I assume an American can check British egnlish as well. We won't be using English 'slang', most differences would be like replacing armor with armour, no?
If you feel confident that you could help with this that would be a major help.
Arkkataka
09-14-2013, 06:36
As far as I know there are very few grammatical differences between American and British English so I would feel confident proofreading there. I will need to start to brush up on vocabulary though, but seeing as I'd need to do that anyway to make sure we label certain provinces right (Britain as Albion) I don't see any problem. When shall I begin?
Why now! I'm writing you pm as we "speak".

Just a question, do you have any jobs for a proof reader or someone to read through large amounts of written information. I was wondering because I believe that I have a very good grasp of the English language (I have it been speaking since I was 3 and moved to the US and it is my dominant language) and when I have a few hours I can read at a speed around a few hundred to a thousand pages per day. Thank you for your time.
Hello all,
I realise that this is my first post and that I am a forum lurker rather than contributor, but I am a massive fan of all things Europa Barbarorum! Having a steady job for the first time since graduating and finding myself increasingly disillusioned by other games that used to compete for my spare time, I feel that I am in a position to help with your mod.
While I have no experience in modding games, I feel that I could be of help if you guys still need proof-readers or writers. I am an English Literature graduate (first-class honours) and I have had a good deal of experience editing and proof-reading academic papers and dissertations.
I also have some experience with coding (mainly front end CSS, HTML, XML etc.) as I completed a 1 year MSc in Information Technology. However, my coding is rusty as I decided against pursuing a career in IT. Nonetheless, if any of these skills could be helpful for your mod, I would happily put in the effort to gain a working knowledge of any coding required.
I cannot say how much I enjoyed EB. It influenced my English degree as I went from studying Modernism to Renaissance and Classical texts. When I play it, I find myself spending hours reading the descriptions and searching for resources on factions online and on kindle! By offering my help, I hope that if needed, I can give back in any small way to the EB team. I certainly feel like I owe you guys a lot!
Thanks for your time,
Ryan

Heeding the call of the recent State of the Mod Address. *salute*
I'm more than happy to work on scripting, traits, or anything regarding general English (writing previews, etc.). It's been forever since I've done any data entry/coding (PHP, QBasic), however, what I do have is a willingness to learn and more time than I know what to do with. I can dedicate at least 4 days a week, now that school and other responsibilities are over with for the foreseeable future. I'm currently reading alpaca's tutorials. For anything more complex, just point me in the the right direction and I'll get to reading and working immediately. A fresh install of kingdoms 1.5 is setup and ready to go.
Lets Rock n' Roll,

IGdood from twc.
Responding to the call of the mod address.
Mainly here as tester, I will not lie. Experience from testing other mods (The Great War for NTW, Thousand Sons from Dawn of War, etc.)
As for modding experience, I've only really dabbled with text editing of units and descr_model_battle, etc.
I did manage to build on the EBBS script and implemented Constantinian Reforms for the SPQR faction in EB 1 for the purpose of a personal mod, but that's about it.
I'm Dom Pedro II from TWC.
I'd like to contribute to the mod, primarily as historian (Preferably Ptolemaioi specialist). I have some modding experience with editing texts and i modded Europa universalis IV (Check out Portuguese Terco Gfx in workshop!)

{Schwarzenackeriz}Skynet eventually gave up on terminating Sarah and John Connor directly, however, old habits die hard. The machines, sifting through Census data, began attacks on the Connor's distant family members. After continually being outwitted by generation after generation, Skynet began "terminating" large swaths of iron age relatives, yet not so much as to inhibit mankind from ultimately constructing Skynet. The stalemate continues...
{Schwarzenackeriz}Schwarzenackeriz are deadly automatons hidden behind human flesh and are equipped with enhanced M134 Miniguns; Perfect for "terminating" a single village in a matter of seconds.
I didn't mess around with battle_models.modeldb as I obviously lack resources.
I am not a modder. My skinning skills are limited to IL2 skins from templates (methinks my Yaks are not your your yaks!) . I can edit text files and have played a very little with some of the game files. I can research, write descriptions and playtest. You probably have an abundance of such "unskilled/semi-skilled" labor but if I can be of any assistance please let me know.

Hi,
I would like to help on 3D modelling or 2D artwork, at least I'd like to give it a try. I mostly use Google Sketchup for 3D modelling and Adobe Photoshop for 2D. I can learn different softwares. I modded Rome Total War a bit (map and text editing).

Hello guys!
I humbly offer my services to your mighty endeavour, in the chance that my small contribution may be of assistance!
I'm an archaeology graduate, now Majoring in Roman Archaeology in Western Iberia. Although I still don't have any papers published (give me a year or two), I am well versed in all matters Roman (and, to a lesser extent, Iron Age Iberia), be it physical evidence or historical accounts. And if I don't know something, I can always find it or consult with my professors and colleagues.
Here's to the continued success of EB!

I have a BA in history and a minor (working on a major) in economics. I did plenty of research in antiquity economies, and research in many areas in history Persia, a culture you asked assistance for, was one of them. I think I could add value in these areas.
BronxBomber89 Offer of assistance noted. The team is currently discussing it. Thank you.

Hi Guys,
I am a longtime lurker and huge fan of EB. I downloaded it 4 years ago, and it is the reason I chose to become a history major! I am close to graduating, and will get a BA in history, specifically ancient history. I have also written my senior thesis on the early Parthians and specifically numismatics. I would love the opportunity to help the team as a Parthian history and I can send a draft of the thesis and my CV if you guys are interested.
Thank you for your interest and support, we will be in touch shortly.
Hi, I was part of the team a few years ago, doing sound scripting. I left because it seemed like this mod was dying, but it looks like you're back on track and will release this soon. Tux tells me you could use the help.

I can do some promo shots for you guys in 4K if you want, to really show off the improved textures. Vanilla M2TW itself still looks very good in 4K, so I can imagine how good this will look.

Hi there,
An EB II tweet linked to this thread and mentioned you still require some help with adding more content to EB II following the first upcoming release?
I'm not all that active on ORG but have been following EB II for more years than I care to admit on TWC and would be delighted to help out in any way I can. It's EB I that keeps me coming back to RTW, so I've nothing but the highest respect for your work and if there's anything to be done that I can contribute to, count me in.
That is, if my skillset currently is required on the team. The tweet mentioned "3D Modelling" and "Artwork" - I'm afraid my 3D modelling skills are non existent but I would gladly help in any way I can when it comes to artwork.
Personally I've mostly moved over to digital art the last few years and would be happy to send you some samples if required. I believe Brennus is doing a lot of the concept art for EB II and I wouldn't want to interfere if he's got the job covered, but if assistance is required please feel free to let me know. I could also try myself on other bits & pieces (icons, banners and such) but usually spent most of my time drawing historically inspired characters (comes with the archaeology degree ^^).
I'm usually not uploading most of my art to the web, but wanted to at least give one sample for your consideration. More could be send via email. This is a flat color drawing of a celtic individual (I wanted to see if I could copy the art style of The Banner Saga...)
The picture was drawn with a much higher resolution in mind, so this thumbnail version unfortunately takes away a little from its appeal (or so I feel at least).

One way or another, thanks for all your work on EB II! It has me very excited to say the least.
PM sent.
Thanks Brennus. I've replied to you via PM as well but the message disappeared from my "Sent" folder shortly after. Let me know in case you didn't receive it.

Hi!
Long time lurker and EB fan. I have been a huge fan of EB for years, and I'm extremely happy to see EB2 to finally come online. I would love to help anyway I can, and given my lack of artistic skills and a degree in ancient history, I want to put my name down as a scripter. I am not familiar with M2TW scripting, but I am very willing to learn and I'm familiar with EB1 script. I am a decent writer, so I can definitely contribute to descriptions of units and buildings, etc. as well. Please let me know if I can be of help--and thanks again for two amazing mods!
Hi mandrewsf. Thank you very much for the kind words of support. Ideally we would need you to be reasonably competent with M2TW scripting before we could accept your offer of help. Please don't take this as a snub, but we do require future team members to be capable in the field they intend to work in before we can accept their help. There are plenty of things in EBII which would benefit greatly from having additional scripters, but unless you know how to work with the M2TW script then there not much we can do.
If you manage to learn how to script in M2TW please let us know.
With regards your degree in ancient history ideally we would be looking for a North African specialist.
And thank you for your continuing support!

Hi,
I am here in response to a thread that was posted regarding the apparent uselessness of missile troops, and javelin troops in particular, as well as functionality of charges (if that can be fixed at all). It was said there was only one person working in that area. I want to help make this wonderful. I have zero knowledge of how to fix this and I will need to be told where/how to look into the problem, but I will apply a modest amount of time to the issue over the coming months, and I am qualified problem solver [physicist].
Other than that I have no knowledge of Ancient history (that I did not learn from this EB1), and simply wish to contribute to making the mechanics more functional.

Twiggy

In addition to our "single guy" we have two other non-team volunteers working with him to address all the unit issues. I will tell you that our area of biggest crying need is somebody who is willing to dig into the traits mechanics. The good news is that it's really all about math (percentages) and coding (if/then and so forth, not vastly complicated). The downside, is there are a TON of them, and we don't have anybody on the team who is working this as a concerted project. As somebody with a scientific, logical bent, this might be an area where you could help.
That does not mean you'd be expected to sweep in and solve everything. Elephants are not eaten in one meal, and we understand that. Take a look at this file: <your m2tw directory>\mods\EBII\data\export_descr_character_traits.txt - spend some time getting a feel for how a few of the traits work and are awarded (the BIGGEST issue), and then let us know if that's something you would be ready to help us with. Thanks!

That is a monster of a file, I had a look at it yesterday. I'll be happy to go over it, after splitting it into bite size pieces. If you can send me/point me to any information on things that need to be added/or bugs that have been highlighted (I will read the bug threads later today), that would be great, otherwise I will glean over it as I understand it has all been hand written so I expect many copy-paste bugs.
V.T. Marvin

As for the bite-size pieces: the file is organized into "sections" and currently the one most complained about is the "Secondary traits/triggers" section resuting in generals getting too many negative traits too often (reportedly).
The other big issue is the "anti-trait bug" which was discovered only very late in mod's development. This bug results in attributes sticking on character after a trait giving them n th first place has been removed by an antitrait. Optimally we should remove all antitraits and use negative awards (Affect [trait] [negative value] Chance [chance value]) instead.
And of course there is a huge potential for creativity and new mechanisms - for instance you will notice that in the section devoted to factio-specific traits many factions has literally nothing at the moment...
And yes, it was all written by hand. If you will actually help here it would be awesome. I will try to offer as much help and advice as I could (feel free to PM me) because my time is now too constrained by RL to actually review the file over again.:shame:

If you go to the bug forums, I believe I may have found the reason why generals are getting too many negative traits (bug in ICE generation), and offered a solution. Can you please explain to me the anti-trait bug? I was reading some guides on traits, and I suspect it is solved by setting the "NoGoingBackLevels" to a number strictly above the highest threshold for the trait prevents the trait being entirely lost when an anti-trait gains a level, and merely increments it down. If we're not talking about the same thing let me know.
If what I read in the guides is correct, some of the traits have been made to respect this bug, and others not. In these other cases "NoGoingBackLevels" are set that even if you increment by negative numbers, these traits will not go down, breaking your intended system of working around AntiTraits.
I would actually quite like to overhaul the traits and prevent the bugs you talk of, but I am also time limited (thesis due in 6 months), but it would be a nice way to procrastinate hehe.

Hi guys
I 've been a fan since EB1 and all I can say is that it changed the way I look at PC games!
I 'll be glad to help with decriptions or historical info about Pontos, Macedonia and Greece.
I have a degree at Law and a second degree at Balkanic and Black Sea Literature and History.
I'm also a native Greek speaker (plus Pontic dialect speaker)
Hey guys!
Firstly - I'm sorry I sort of disappeared quietly last time you asked me to do concept art. I had a tough time finishing university and starting a full time illustration business. Simply - I had no time and will to do any art beside work.
Secondly - congratulations on the release! I have no idea which parts of the mod are done, but I assume the visuals are mostly fine? I think I could do some CA/promo art for you again, but I wonder if there's any need for that any more.
Anyway, if you'd like me to do something for EB2, shoot me an email. (or a PM, although I'm less likely to respond to that quickly)
(the address is on my portfolio website)
so you guys dont have nobody dealing with the audio ?
Ive seen quite a few of you apppreciated this guy work with his new battle sounds. Why not inviting him here! Are you going to include his submod in the mod anyway?
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?664704-Epiccaesarlol-s-Sound-Mod-new-sounds-for-Europa-Barbarorum-II
he initially done this for the Russians of Natus Ob Imperium so it will not be that original.

To be honest I dont have anythign against borrowing stuff from these guys. If they didnt ask for permissions for some of their stuff this asked favor would be once again even more righteous. They are quite ahead with their mod and you guys could use soem of their stuff.
what other ranks need to be fiiled? The recruitment thread OP is still up to date? Scripters, Historians for estaern regions, skinners etc?
Well it seems that they have already stolen EB voices....
are those warcries already in EB?
anyway about my second question? Do you still nee personel in those areas?
Do you still nee personel in those areas?
Artists are always good, especially if they can make a whole unit on their own...
More scripters will definitely help in alleviating the workload and if eventually split between factions/departments will allow better coverage and detail...
Eastern historians I do not think are currently needed, North African on the other hand (particularly Numidian and/or Berber) will help a LOT...
what about Iberian historians and the audio part?
What is currently missing there is someone versed in Celtiberian history and someone who has access to Portuguese sources for the Lusotannan...
Audio-wise composers would help, samplers too, plus people willing and able to record voices...
On that note linguists of Proto-Germanic, Numidian/Old Berber and Aramaic would be quite useful!
What is currently missing there is someone versed in Celtiberian history
Well I try.....
You do an excellent job, but you also work for 5 (!!!) other factions, being lead in what 4? :O
Just throwing out there that a lead for the Areuakoi will be good, alongside saving you a huge amount of time ^^
Even so, I'm sure you'd still be working just as hard with the Keltiberoi, which is amazing :P
Hi all I came from the Recruitment thread from TWC. Brennus sended me an pm to write my application here too.
I can help the mod by making UI Cards, Building Icons, UI and Main Menu stuff. All kind of 2D except Units (I can make Units too but I wan't to make 2D stuff for EB2 :) )
Here is an example from an old project;

Hi guys, just a suggestion and that's in case you haven't done this already, why don't you separate the traits in sections, so that they can be worked by a few people simultaneously? The file is big and just its size will be likely to prevent forum members from volunteering.
Even though I'd rather edit the EDU, if you need help with the traits and triggers you can count on me. I've been more active at twcenter. net, and like I said, as of right now my work on EB2 has been private and more along the lines of fixing the skirmisher units. Actually this is why I'm currently looking at the traits, I'm trying to create a trait that makes skirmisher units in the army more useful, and increasing the player's motivation to recruit them. :)

I might know quite lots of modelers in that area especially from Mount & Blade where they make those realiastic scenes etc.
Until then on your need of linguists: there is rather hard to find someone educated in those ancient languages. However there are some fellows on TWC that have studied/are studying Aramaic.
One of them is Marcus Aemilius Lepidus (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/member.php?57695-Marcus-Aemilius-Lepidus) who says he has very good source editions with good translation which he can also double check.

Hi everyone. I currently have some time on my hands and do not plan on writing another regional description. I feel the game is not ready as a complete experience for me so I will not be campaigning yet. So I was thinking maybe I could test specific factions and so on. Is this kind of thing of any use to the team right now?
A little sound test of my little domra from a new studio (at my new apartment). Sorry for medieval melody, but it's not start of EB music - it's just an inprovisation sample. Made with fingers\domra\mic only.

The Region Description thread should contain a list of which regions are still missing descriptions, or at least give some guidance, after a bit of reading, as to what is outstanding. At present we don't require unit descriptions, but rather people who can model the actual units. In terms of completeness of the mod, it varies between which aspects you are talking about. For example we could say that 100% of the units are done, as we have all the units for the first release, however that would ignore all the units we had planned. The problem with EBII is that the goal posts move too frequently to allow us to easily quantify what percentage is complete. Apologies for the brevity of this message but most of the team are still away for Christmas. We will respond more fully soon.
I could try to help with the programming and scripting.
Do you have any prior experience?
I don't have any noteworthy modding experience, but I've got programming experience with Java and a bit C/C++. So I would first have to teach myself how to skript, but I think I could do that pretty fast.
If you think you can teach yourself we would be very happy to have you with us k7r0l once you feel confident in what you are doing. Please keep us informed as to your progress, ideally with some examples of your work.

I hope that better days will come for EB II. I just accidentally run into this thread. I was never active in the forum but I enjoyed EB for many years. Now that you are in dire need I want to offer my aid. I'm ready to work so let me to introduce myself. I'm an armenian and a native armenian speaker. I've never modded TW games, but for two years I am already learning C++ programing language, I know modelling , a little texturing (using Blender and GIMP respectively) and my knowledge of armenian language, country and history maybe usefull, too. I can spare about an hour perday(or almost every day) to work on EB II.
My e-mail: "arshak-nava@rambler.ru"
Best regards.

I would like to offer my help.
I have played EBII and many other Total War mods. Over time I've done some script work, mostly editing traits, buildings, and units. This would be the first time I would be working on a larger project though.
I also live 20 mins from my Alma Mater Oregon State and they have a large public research library. I don't know what their antiquity collection looks like but I can take a look.
Winter is slow for me so I can give you 2-3 hrs a week.
Hi guys i would like to offer my help too. I am b0Gia from http://www.twcenter.net/forums. I am the creator of the most popular submods threads for EB 2:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?664796-Submods-Compilation-Europa-Barbarorum-Mod-Pack-v3-for-EB-2-01-by-b0Gia-Recruitable-Generals-finally-came-to-EB-2-01-allong-with-ReallyBadAI-5-7

I have played EB 1.2 , EBII and many other Total War mods from RTW to Shogun 2. Over time I've done some script work, mostly editing traits, buildings, and units, combing submods from EB 1.2: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?660026-Customized-mod-pack-by-b0Gia
Since EB 2 released i learned more about modding in order to implement submods from EB 1.2 to EB 2 and making my own submods most notable Extended Offices Expanded for EB 2.01 that implement 61 new ancillaries for Epeirotai and Makedonians with 61 historical accurate descriptions and recruitable generals. This would be the first time I would be working on a team though. I had contact with EB 2 members like Brennus and V.T. Marvin who write me this message two months ago about my Extended Offices Expanded submod:
But in any case I very much like what you are doing here and please keep up the good work. And yes, there is a very good chance of your submod being integrated into the main mod for the next release.
In fact, feel free to join the Team yourselves if you feel you have still some time and motivation to contribute. Your sub-mod is a very good recommendation and there are lots of trait-based ideas on our internal forum to be implemented, yet in my absence we do not have any trait-coders at the moment. So your help will be very much appreciated!
Best regards
VTM
I can spare about 4-5 hours per week to work on EB II when i don't have irl issues like my exams every semester.

Maybe you don’t know how popular the EB is in China because of the language barrier. This mod is regarded as the best historical mod and I respect this mod very much.
Actually, there is few history-oriented armors in Chinese games or films and few people who could distinguish various armors in different dynasties, even though China has thousands of years of history. But fortunately, more and more amateurs begin devoting themselves into restoring ancient Chinese armors; some make physical mock-ups while others make games. I want to show my own ideas through the mod of Total War game, so I choose the Eurasia during the Tang dynasty of China (from 618-907 AD) as the background of my mod. But, I can’t read many foreign materials and I don’t have too much time outside of work, so my own mod has stopped for years. May this mod is too hard for me to finish, hah?
Few weeks earlier, I read “The Europa Barbarorum II Christmas Appeal” translated by GWB and I feel that we may have the same standpoint. I really hope EB2 could come out and I am willing to do my best to help you guys by making some models.
Best wishes for you!
I was over to the TWC when I came across this post by V.T. Marvin:
You are absolutely right that this something that is very much lacking a good description/explanation. The reasons for each and every game mechanics are scattered all over our internal forum and hopefully someday someone will collect them in a presentable form. During the game development creating a proper manual/guide was having very low priority given the fact that we struggled hard getting it done in the first place. EB 1 similarly got all the documetation goodies very late in development (post EB 1.0). Hopefully we will get there eventually. But we are just not there yet. Sorry.
BTW - if somebody was truly committed to fill-in this gap, it would an excellent project to apply for full Team membership without requiring ANY modding skills IMO...
Taken from this thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?677124-Clarity-of-Mechanics&
Does this offer stand as of now? I believe I could help with compiling all this aforementioned documentation. I am an engineer after all and sorting out material in order to provide documentation that solves technical issues is what my current clients irl asked of me.

hello everyone i'm (TWCenter old veteran, "Ataegina").
recently i was contacted by b0Gia about a old mod of mine and asked if i could join, so i'm posting for the same reason. i'm not expert on any specific area but i can do a bit of everything, i'm bit rusty since i stoped modding for 5 years (more or less) but being part of this mod wich always a good motivator to get back to the "game" :)
i did few mods, nothing too amazing, but it was something...
started with (by order):
Regions & Titles Mini-Addon for CAE 1.3 - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?118155-Regions-amp-Titles-Mini-Addon-for-CAE-1-3
Ferrum Aeternum - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?596-Ferrum-Aeternum

Great Northern War - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?1667-Great-Northern-War
Yup the offer is open.
If that is so, I would like to offer my services!
Hi there, I am a modder originally from rtw though I do have experience in mtw2 too (privately). I believe alin may have already contacted some of you in regards to my interest but I was told here to post by QuintusSertorius. I figure why not make it official.
To start. I've worked on several things, coding, scripting and animations/ai.
I am interested in helping with several things namely, battle pathfinding/cai pathfinding. Already started here. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?686614-Updated-Pathfinding-amp-BAI
Along with other BAI aspects and CAI. My future version/main focus is now on the CAI so I will be doing some of that.
Though I generally wish to work separate to implement my own ideas if that's okay.
My experience has been on large hosted modification called CATW which I worked on (actually going to release an update as soon as I hear back from my fellow modder Anarchon though few seem interested in rtw nowdays)http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?1796-Classical-Age-Total-War
Along with a private mod with my friend which I did extensive coding on (which is primarily why I am bored of it and interested in pathfinding/cai/bai).
Also I released and worked on some animations from many modders (alins among them) here. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?551304-z3n-s-Combined-Animations-Pack
I've also worked on the RTR project here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?26-Rome-Total-Realism-(RTR) in coding/animations. I may have a few submods here and there too which I forgot about by now... I was also going to help with the unlocking of limits in the executable (through memory hooks a process approved by CA member Jack Lusted) of the RTW executable (project leader was redfox), though school got in the way and he got very sick.
Oh and I also reverse scripted germanicu5's scripts into RTW though I had issues with identifying elephants as different from cavalry or something along those lines it's been awhile since I did it... RTW's scripting commands are limited compared to mtw2's unfortunately. I got the majority of it in a working condition if it could be called such.
Well anyway, congratulations on the release of EB2.
I noticed on the province description thread there were things waiting for grammar checks, I'd be happy to contribute to that if you need people.

I would like to volunteer.
Please contact Resef for a reference.
My area of expertise is ancient historical geography.
Particularly the East of the area you cover.
I also have historical knowledge of this area.
I did the maps and historical background for Slitherine's game 'Spartan'.
I am interested in developing a sub-mod under EB2 or MTW2K which runs to China.

So, if you would like to join the Europa Barbarorum team and help producing EB2, then contact us in this thread or send a PM to Foot or JMRC, showing us some of your work and/or references to mods you've been envolved or documents you've written. This is an important part of the recruitment process because we always ask for your background knowledge. After that, we will get back to you ASAP.
Hope to hear from you soon!
(I'm Resef)
Great guy, I greatly endorse him :2thumbsup:

That first post needs updating to say contact anubis88.
I would like to volunteer my services as a modeler for EBII.
I work with Blender, and can model weapons/armour/objects, high-detail head and body meshes (low-detail as well), and probably buildings (they're easier than faces). Horse models are a little more difficult, but I can do them as well if given time to research.
Sample models:
Roman Gallic Helm (the model's a bit choppy here)
https://i.imgur.com/qw5o3k3.png
Side view
https://i.imgur.com/C68GAc2.png
Human head (I can make lower polygon meshes as well)
https://i.imgur.com/VGB5f3T.png
Side view
https://i.imgur.com/x1HUhO1.png
This view is probably better, since it brings out the shadows on the face
https://i.imgur.com/VgjY5fy.png
------
I'm still a beginner at Blender, thus the occasional mistake (the tip of the nose on the head model above, for example), but hopefully this is good enough to be allowed to contribute to EBII's development.
I don't know how to make skins, but am willing to learn and have experience using GIMP to make maps and GIFs. I also possess a basic knowledge of Python, which is thankfully more than enough to work with M2TW's script, and am familiar with how scripting on the M2TW engine works. Thus, I can also work as a scripter, though I would prefer to focus on modeling primarily if possible.
Oh, and I might be able to model siege engines, since that's what everyone is going on about recently. I don't know how to animate them yet, however.

What languages do you speak? We have some multi-lingual team members who may be able to converse in another tongue, if that's going to be easier.
I speak Polish, I don’t have talent for languages but paradoxically I studied many of them in my live: English, German, Russian and some Latin, recently I learn Norwegian.
Hey,
Are you still in need of coders/scripters? I have plenty of experience in C++ and Python, as well as some experience in Java. I experimented with the M2TW scripts a long time ago when I first toyed with the idea of modding, and I could probably pick it up again reasonably quickly.

Unfortunately I don't. Ideally I'd work on campaign scripting events, units, etc. My post was mostly to gauge whether there might be some room on the team, and if there is I'd probably spend some time relearning the syntax and putting together something to show you.
I should add that I'd also be interested in anything requiring coding in C++/Python.
How many hours would you be willing to put in?

Probably between 5-10 hours a week depending on how busy I might be with other things.
Hello, I would like to introduce myself and offer help in 3d modeling :) I live in Poland and modeling it's just my hobby, so it takes me some time to make my models, for example this celtic helmet I've been making for about 30mins (quite a lot for that small thing) but when I heard that it is possible to reuse some existing parts from EBII and M2TW then I thought it's not going to be that hard.
https://i.imgur.com/9QbRcM2.png
I don't have any other screens to share, I simply make a model, learn some new things, look at it and do another one.
I hope that I will have at least 1-2h a day to work on models (8-14h per week isn't that bad I guess).
Cheers
Hi!I was directed here by QuintusSertorius after writing a message in the TWC EBII. I am a Spanish historian who make a thesis on the Iberian peoples but my English is not very good. I have a bachelor's degree (I think it is the term) in History, and now I'm studying for my "Master" degree in Ancient History (degree you take after getting the career degree with thesis). My particular areas are the Iberian Period, the Phoenicians from the Iberian Peninsula,Celtiberians, Vacceos and Vettones (warfare, sociopolitical aspects,economy,landscape...). On the other hand lusitani, Callaeci, Turduli and Celtici to a lesser extent. I have got a lot of spanish bibliography, too.
QuintusSertorius said me that you have Spanish-speaking team members so I'm glad I could help you if you want and I prefer my native tongue for complex stuff like the archeology concepts, thank you very much :)

Hello!
I was directed here from twcenter and I heard you need 3D-modelers.
I have 3 years experience from my university with 3D Studio Max and texturing. I've also worked professionally with rendering and 3D modeling and at the moment I work at a building construction company where I make buildings in 3D, construction drawings, renderings etc. I haven't done 3D modeling for games for some years though (mostly renders and Revit now) but here are some image of low poly models I've done before:
imgur.com/a/Xozju
I've never done modding for TW games but I've done hobby/university projects in Unreal Engine, Cry Engine and Unity.
I have a passion for both games (especially strategy and RPG:s) and of course ancient history :)

Hi there,
I was asked to post my application on TWC here and to apply for the Campus Martius by QuintusSertorius, so here it is:
Hi,
Since the team is still looking for people, I think I'll apply as well. I'm not sure I've got a lot of useful skills to add, but I hope I can still help. I've already got an account over at the Org, so if I should also post this over there, just tell me.
I expect I can be of most use to the team by proofreading texts of varying lengths. I'm pretty much fluent in English and Dutch, if I'm allowed to say so myself, and can also understand German and French (the latter not to the same degree as the former unfortunately, but reading ought to still be fine. Speaking not so much). I've got a basic knowledge of Latin and Attic Greek as well, though I guess both of these might be getting a bit rusty at this point.
Secondarily, I have a (very) basic knowledge of modding text files in R:TW (I believe those of M2:TW are pretty similar). I unfortunately haven't got much to show on this front, as it mostly came down to me tweaking the unit stats in vanilla Rome I to my own liking and adding a few existing units to other factions (no editing of models or skins involved).
Thirdly, I currently in my first year of studying History at a Dutch university of somewhat respectable size. Although I don't think I've got either the experience or specialisation required to apply as a full historian yet, I think I may be able to help do some small-scale research or assist in gathering information from sources in Dutch, should there be nobody on the team with proficiency in that language already.
On a somewhat related note, I'm definitely finishing that damn Odrysai province description (Grrr... ), I will likely give that another try once the summer vacation begins.
That's all I can offer at the moment, but I hope there's something useful in there. Shoot me a message if you want me to join.
I was told that the team still needs playtesters for the development build as well, so I'd like to apply for that role as well.

I'm a historian and archaeologist. I would like to join. I'm also trying to learn how to mod.
From time to time I keep looking after EB II and wondering if and when the next big thing happens. So, as I am still seriously interested in this project after 10+ years of enjoying EB I + II, I would like to know if I can help actively to push the progress forward? I am a professional programmer in business environments. My other and way more passionate longterm goal is to participate in a major gaming project like this. Please let me know. Kind regards.
