View Full Version : Gameroom Chess Tournament
Hello all,
I got the okay from the man upstairs to see if we could have another chess tournament. We had one previously(it can be found here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?107602-Gameroom-Chess-Tourney&highlight=Chess+Tournament)) but it was never finished sadly. I would like to do a bracket tournament with two out of three wins moves on, if there's enough players. Any comments or suggestions on a better way of structuring it are welcome. If you are interested please post in the thread.
how much time will a player be given ?
4 days for three games sounds like a good amount of time, and can be extended if RL intervenes. I'd like it to move at a semi-decent pace, so I would not want it to be more than a week at most. If people think that isn't enough time then we can discuss it further.

Sure, I'll play, even if Romanic is going to kick my behind if I draw him
I think 4 days for three days are a bit short but I can understand the pace argument... It just pressures the players to sit down and play entire sessions in a row instead of correspondance, that might stress some players.
Nevertheless, CHESS!

Sign me up, but how do we play this?
Gah, I don't know if I have time for this. I work every day. And don't write me off as the winner yet, I'm far from invincible, sadly. :embarassed:
How will we be playing our games, and what would be the clock time? 30 mins per game etc?
I'm not signing up yet, I want details since my time is limited and I don't want to be a burden.

You're welcome to use the automated Tournament utility (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/competitions.php?) to create the bracket, if you would like. A tutorial to the system can be found here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?134740-Tournament-Utility-Tutorial).

This (http://www.chess.com/home/) site was good last time around, so I was thinking it. Unless you or someone else knows of a better site. This site doesn't seem to have a time setting that is under 1 day. I was sure it did before. If anyone knows of somewhere that does that would be nice.
I wasn't thinking of a clock time. 30 minutes sounds good though.

Thanks that will be useful. Would you like to play?
I'm in if we're playing timed games, 30 mins or such. What I don't want is to play games with unlimited time, my current free time won't allow it.

I have given you the ability to create and edit competitions with the system. Let me know if you need any help using it.
Don't have time to play, sorry.

Correspondance Chess doesn't go lower than one day. It has a "Live Chess" function for shorter games.

I usually play my games at www.chesscube.com. It's pretty easy to use if you want that.
I'm in if the time control is less than 1 hour and with no increment.
That's how I figured it. Need to find a way to get more people to sign-up. At the rate it's going we probably won't get enough people.

I most probably will lose in three moves, but I will give it a go.

Well, I'm awful at chess, but I'll give it a shot.
Csargo, you haven't added me to the list yet. As I said, I'm willing to play if the games don't take hours (30 mins, or 1h max, would be fine).

If anyone wants to practice or just play for fun, PM me and we'll play.
Don't play blitzes against him, he just beat me 2.5 - 1.5. Not happy. :laugh4:

Pft! You had me all games, just not enough time. :p
(I prefer 10+1 or 1 minute. Pwetty pweez?)

Sorry thought I did. :sorry:
I'll play if you still need more players.

Are we doing this?
Not enough people, I don't think.
