hi all-

just would like to here you exsperiances of playing other factions aside roman, how difficult/easy you found them advantage and disavantages and how you slayed the game:laugh4:

personally being pretty new to rtw i pl ayed a campain with bruti, eliminated nubia and cartharage (fairly easy actually) but gave up once egyptians started really beating up my 500 people frontier citys :embarassed:

when i tried for the first time with carthajinians and took on house of scippi on scicily i was surprised at how hard it was to beat them.

then both spainsh at nubians laid into my capitals-

heres my one piece of advice for cartharige: if your playing a shourt campain and you need to take down scippi dont sweat!:sweatdrop:

remeber- they only have two citys

personally what i did was made an alliance with syracause (GREEK) and we did a joint attack on messan ( is it messan?)- took the city with heavy casualties, after that i basically piled every man i had left on capu, out numbered something like 8:1 nearly lost but hey then i wiped them out

course bruti and SPOR started moving in so i destroyed demolised all the buildings, infuriated the people with ridicules tactics and let the town fall in to rebellian :laugh4:

please tell your stories :idea2:

There are a lot of "playable" factions, depending on your tastes. If you like elephants, then Carthage or Seleucia are your best bets. If you enjoy 'hammer and anvil' tactics with phalanx, and a strong navy, then the Greek Cities or Macedonia are the thing. If you enjoy hit-and-run tactics with horse archers, then Armenia, Parthia, or Scythia are the ticket. Egypt has a solid roster with those annoying chariot archers, solid infantry, and decent cavalry. For the barbarian factions, Germania has arguably the best roster...excellent archers and cavalry, and devastating heavy infantry.

My personal favorite is Armenia. The Cats simply rule the battlefield when well-led, and you have diverse infantry once you get past the Eastern Infantry barracks, so you can use flexible tactics including Roman-style pila use.

Greek Cities are my favorite.

If only because of Spartans, who are friggin Gods in this game. That being said I love them, they are the way they are supposed to be, nigh unstoppable monsters.

Choose Britannia, ride your chariots trough Rome's grand paved boulevards!

i don't know if you call my choice "best." i usually play greek [in XGM, no less], but if i do BI [lately, for a long time i haven't played it] i play alemanni, and try to win against all roman odds as a good challenge. i don't know about the eastern factions--seleukids, armenia, parthia, whatever. maybe they're good too. maybe one of them can be popularly considered "best." i once tried a campaign with spartan hoplites supported by elephants recruited from antioch, and it handled like heaven [too bad i wasn't able to have kataphracts too in my army.] hawooh.

They all have their good points, but I really like Parthia, because they're a challenge. Also, Cataphracts! :D
