So for the whole summer I'm down here in Tampa Bay, and I don't really know where to go or what to do, and I don't know anybody.

Now both in hopes of meeting people and in the interest in making money and gaining experience, I've been applying for jobs at several places. Hopefully I get accepted somewhere, though I have no experience whatsoever :/.

Anyway, so far I've applied to the local Imax Theater, Hooters, Splitsville (bowling alley with a bar and food and stuff), and the Westin Hotel right by the apartment I'm staying in with my dad.
At Hooters I talked to the manager, and she really seemed to like me and said she'd put in a good word with her GM, so I think I have a good chance there.
I'm not sure about the Imax because the GM there that I talked to said that there's been a lot of applications there lately, but he likes people with no experience so I at least have that in my favor.
Splitsville I haven't talked to any sort of manager either of the 2 times I've gone, but I turned in the application and someone said they might need some food runners so hoping I get contacted soon about that.
The Westin I just picked up the application today, I'll turn that in tomorrow and see how it goes. Doubt I'll be able to talk to anybody since hotel managers are so busy, but I'm sure they could always use an extra porter, and I'm strong enough to fill the job.

I'm really excited about finally being able to work, get some $$$, and figure out what all is goin on down here. Fingers crossed for me landing a job!

From my experience, the best way to get the sort of job you are looking for is to use the online applications for the big fast food places.

I never had any luck handing CV's round anywhere else. But the fast food chains are always hiring, a good chunck of my interviews I got were with those sorts of places before I got my current job.

You're excited to work!? I view my own never-worked-before-butt as privileged...

But see if St. Petersburg Times Forum is hiring

If you get a job at Hooters, then you are one very lucky man.

yeah not really.

Well I don't think I'll fill out the booty shorts or shirt enough, so they probably won't let me be one of the Hooters Girls :P.

But working all day surrounded by Hooters Girls? that's a pretty sweet deal.

Hooters is real! I always though it was some sort of joke about modern society.

Would this be your first job? And mind if I ask how old you are?

As I told the manager at Hooters, "No experience, this will be my first job. Well, hopefully :)"

and 16 as of April this year.

16? Wow you are younger than I thought you were.
I got my first summer job when I was 15, but it was for a family friend and I didnt have to interview, so it doesnt really count.

oh yeah i definitely hear you there. once I go back home and school starts, I'll have the JROTC Adventure team, maybe cross country, winter track, then spring track. and this year was very similar except i did football in place of cross country and spring track. so i'll have to make do with the money i get this summer for like all of next year

Or you can get lucky like me. I got requested out of the blue to work for a software firm, in a position above my experience level and qualifications. My friend said he'd put my name forward for an opening, without my knowledge.... =)

Just don't take a two year old there. (http://www.salon.com/life/fathers_day/index.html?story=/mwt/feature/2011/06/19/dont_take_your_daughter_to_hooters)
