So I got tickets to a Motley Crue, Poison and New York Dolls gig in a few weeks, and I was listening up on them, and I kept thinking, "god, I wish I lived in the 80's so I could see all these bands when they were young.

I envy all you old people. :stare:

Man, I can't think of anything good that at all came out of the 80s except the original VW Rabbit.

The only good thing about the 80s was the tv theme tunes. Oh yeah, and the Dutch side at Euro 88.

If I had lived in the 80's and went to shows of some of the bands I like from back then, I could've gotten beaten up, stabbed, or shot by the police.

Hmm, in the '80s I saw Sammy Hagar (solo, promoting his Red album); Thin Lizzy; Deep Purple; Ted Nugent (Cat Scratch Fever tour); Pat Travers several times (including his Crash and Burn show); Def Leppard, when Let it Go and Bringing On the Heartache were their only big hits); a Day on the Green in Oakland featuring Kansas, Ronnie Montrose and Gamma, 38 Special, Eric Martin, and headliner (pukes ...) REO Speedwagon; Pink Floyd's The Wall show from high up in a tree on a hill outside the stadium; the last Stevie Ray Vaughn show in this area, with Jeff Beck (Guitar Shop tour); and finally Queensryche. There were probably others but I've forgotten for some reason ....

Edit: sure 'nuff, left out a lot: Missing Persons, INXS, Depeche Mode, Genesis, Simple Minds, George Michael, The Eagles, Elton John, Chick Corea Elektric Band, John Scofield, Wayne Shorter, Michel Petrucianni ... quite a few shows, now that I'm thinking about it.

I also played 'boards in several nightclub touring bands from '81-'86 and made a frugal living at it. So yeah, I got to live music in the 80s, and it was quite excellent. But like any era, the '80s had its issues.

Gotta say, I sure had more fun in the '80s than I'm having now!

I feel that way too, except it's more late eighties and early nineties and technically I was alive in that period but too young to enjoy it.

MJ, a ton of the best pop ever, so many good movies, a bunch of hair metal, grunge, classic rap, hell even the stuff coming out of Europe was good then, Beavis and Butthead, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Sega Genesis, the deepest top end talent in hockey history, the fact that Soviet hockey existed and was a foil to North American hockey, and a much more offense oriented NHL that had a place for goons, and last but not least, big hair which I always liked.

This movie and the 'Brat Pack' that stared in it personify the 80's.

The 80's is quite possibly the worst decade since 1343-1353.
