Look at this:

A country that was created with a 98% backing from the population...and you guys just want to chill and procrastinate in filing your papers to the UN on whether or not you will recognize South Sudan? Just what have you guys been doing that has taken up so much of your time, you can't even give the UN a ring to let them know what is up? Long distance call should be affordable on your budget. I can understand some of the eastern and southern european countries like Italy and Greece might be handling a bunch of stuff right now like trying to keep their economies together, but you guys have your stuff together. No excuses.

They probably haven't figured out how to get the postage stamp on their email yet.

Going by our foreign minister's blog, formal recognition will be made on Saturday, the same day South Sudan will be formally declared independent. Our Minister for Development Assistance will be there on Saturday as well.

Preperation stuff for that will be made on Thursday. I assume that's when the papers to the UN is sent in.

1. What's that picture? What do the colours mean?
2. Why should we care?

2. Why should we care?
That depends. If you don't particularly care much for the freedom of oppression/rebellion thing, maybe because of its oil deposits & so on.

Apparently, Belgium didn't recognize South Sudan either.

Another point to put on the agenda of our government formateur...

Ignoring the fact that I'm an evil git and dont give a toss about my fellow man, I was more wondering why anyone cares what sweden does when most of the rest of the world is already recognizing south sudan.

It'll take a lot more than dividing Sudan to stop the violence in that country. As was predicted by plenty of people, both North and South has started terrorizing themselves again. The only thing that has changed, is that the groups in the north terrorize other groups in the north, and groups in the south terrorize other groups in the south, instead of groups in the north terrorizing groups in the south and groups in the south terrorizing groups in the north.

Oh well, at least it's a start, I suppose.

True. Sudan and former Sudan are all kinds of messed up.

So are all Swedes personally responsible for what their government does?

Anyway, I want to know why Somaliland has suddenly become independent, and why some new enclave appears to have been created in Brazil just south of French Guiana.

Somaliland should be recognized as independent, seeing as it is the only functioning state in Somalia.

yes, because I was being completely serious and wasn't trying to make a light and silly thread for people to enjoy.

Puntland is still filled with the delusional desire to remain within the decomposing body of Somalia.

Ah, you made a self joke and played a oversensitive liberal (US style) and played on Sweden's semi-reputation of being the world's conscience, instead of simply being blunt on the topic of a new state forming in the next few days.

Yes, exactly.

If I wanted to make a serious post about the formation of South Sudan, I would have been much more fact oriented and you would be able to tell that it was completely serious. Similar to my recent gay marriage or education system threads. Very down to business when I want to be serious.

If someone wants to make a serious South Sudan thread, go ahead, because I honestly don't know that much about it to start running my mouth about the situation other than the country starts on july 9th.

Scotland =/= Belgium. [They have no fine beers, ales or lagers. Perhaps gin though.]

He can deepfry your favourite dish though or give you one of the local delicacy, deep-fried Mars Bar.
