Heir Defection

Playing a Chosokabe long campaign on hard I had seized Iwami from the Shoni. Leading that army was my just come of age heir. The remnants of that Shoni army were beyond my movement range that turn. The following season I attack again to mop them up. Before the battle screen a pop-up window informs me that my heir has defected to the enemy. That's a first for me. :jumping:

What was his loyalty beforehand?

He had the basic 3 star loyalty, didn't even have -1 "upstart son" or "upstart general" yet. He also defected to a Christian clan from a Buddhist clan. No enemy agents were present, I had my monk, ninja, and metsuke in the Iwami castle from where I attacked to mop up. Guess I should have had the metsuke along to keep an eye on junior.:laugh4: That was unexpected, but cool.

I attacked the remnants of the Shoni army despite my heir's defection. The original Shoni General, partial units *light cav, bow samurai, ashigaru* and daddy's little traitor . All the Shoni died, my traitor son escaped. Not having any cav myself I couldn't reach him to finish him off that turn. During the AI's move he escaped East across the Iwami bridge out of my line of sight and a Hattori army coming from the opposite direction must have finished him. I couldn't find the little Benedict Arnold. I was kind of hoping for a cut scene of junior committing sepuku or Big Daddy Daimyo spanking junior with the flat of his katana.


My only heir backstabbing dear old dad. Ungrateful spoiled rotten kids these days I tell ya....hehehe I love it! The game needs more of this stuff to make it interesting.

I usually adopt all my generals as my Daimyos and their sons seem quite incapable of reproducing themselves (this really does need fixing) but have still had more than one desert to the enemy.

Can't remember if any were heirs though - probably not given that my heirs are mostly children and all seem to get killed as soon as I send them out of the capital.

However if you remember MTW it was almost compulsory for heirs to revolt and take half the provinces with them - at least in STW2 they just seem to take the army their with (and not even all of it - I am sure that one of my defectors took half his stack and immediately attacked the other half).

On my current campaign, on which it looks like I may go the longhual on the long/legendary setting, I have lost 2 generals at the start of the fight, who have defected along with soldiers and screwed me in the battle. Not sons, though.

This happened immediatey after I looted two wealthy provinces because, well, I was broke and when realm divide hits they are all gonna hate me any. As I rolled into year 65 and realized no one had traded with me yet despite high honor, I figured screw it.
