Welcome to the third game in the Midgard saga.
It is not a sequel to the second game, but a standalone game that has a slightly different story line.

This game will still be similar and will have many of the features of the previous games;
Since this is an anniversary, I will not do too many changes from the previous game.
Consider this a Midgard retro game based heavily on the previous two games.

The setting is ancient Norway.
The Kings of the west and retinues are gathered at Hafrsfjord to discuss the possible invasion of a usurper King called Harald Hårfagre.
They blame King Eirik of Hordaland and his daughter for putting the idea of gathering Norway into one kingdom to Harald’s mind.
They all want peace as a war on this scale would tax the small kingdoms of the west coast greatly.

A few Jotun has infiltrated the entourage and will try to kill all the Kings at this gathering, hoping to make sure this war will happen and maybe escalate it to an all encompassing war
in the Viking world that would put an end to all there is.

The Roles:

Kings – this will be the Kings from the small kingdoms of the west coast of Norway
Jotun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jötunn) – the Mafiosi
Pro-town roles
Townies (various roles in the retinue of the Kings)

The Jotun's main object is to kill the Kings + the pro-town roles. If they are able to do so they will win.

The Rules:

Dead may post but not vote.
No screen shots of my PMs … You might try to claim a role by either quoting PMs or making one up.
All roles are within the Norse realm.
Remember to stay active; the roles depend on you being active and WoOs (Wrath of Odinn) will create advantages to the Jotun. Jotun will never be WoO’ed.

Roles that require sending PMs will do so at their discretion. However there will be a deadline. If they get sent in after that deadline they will not be used for that round.
The timer starts when I post my: “The game has started”. I will send my PMs and you will return PMs if you role requires it.
In short; you have 24 hours to pm me after I start the game. This will give you plenty of time to get to know your in-game buddies/allies and devise a strategy.
There will be a 24 hour session between every intermission. i.e. between the posting of the night kills and the posting of the lynching and then again until the next kill post.

Voting: use the standard. I.e.

Vote: Sigurd
Unvote: Sigurd Vote: Sasaki.
Do not edit posts containing votes. The original vote will be the vote.

Holmgang: (passage of arms, lit.transl: walk the islet)
After every lynching and in the intermission before the next night, you have the opportunity to challenge another player to a duel.
The first Holmgang will be conducted after the first killings and the first lynching.

There will be some sore feelings after the lynching since someone’s cook or serf man got executed. Others might gloat and smirk.
This will generate a little disturbance at the Hafrsfjord encampment and the normal way of settling this is by Holmgang. If you want to challenge another player, the procedure is:

Challenge: Sigurd.

The first 6 challenges will be considered and by the randomness of random.org one will be picked.
Players can not spam challenge. Only one challenge pr. player will be added to the list of possible Holmgangs (usually the first).
Challenges are binding and you can’t unchallenge.
This Holmgang will be narrated with the kills the following night.
One of the combatants will usually die.
Every role will get a Holmgang ability that will determine the outcome of such a duel.
There is still luck involved in the form of rolling dice and a player with low abilities might be able to get in a lucky shot against a player with higher abilities.
You will not be able to conduct two Holmgang in succession. You will lose some blood during such a duel and you will need to rest during the next Holmgang session.
Luckily you all suffer from Viking sickness and will recover quickly. No honourable Viking will challenge a player in his resting. If someone does – that challenge will not be considered.

I will use a new feature to determine the outcome of these fights. This time around they will be quite public.
In risk style the attacker is at disadvantage since matching dice will favour the defender.
In-game dice that can only be used once in a post and not edited after submitted, will be used in this game.

Holmgang as a tool will need to tested out and see how this can affect the town effort.

Round 1

https://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y230/asleka/Runes2.png

News of the usurper king of Vestfold and lately Sogn had reached the kingdoms of the west coast. This eastlander had according to a serf woman wooed King Eirik of Hordaland’s daughter Gyda.
This serf woman had told the exact words of Gyda’s decline: “Why should I marry someone as petty as you. Come back when you have conquered the whole of Norway”.

Harald Hårfagre (Finehair) had not been insulted, but took the challenge. Words from other parts of the realm told of armies gathering under the leadership of Harald and his intentions were clear. He means to gather the whole of Norway under one King, namely himself.
The Kings of the West Coast don't want to give their kingdoms over to some usurper King of the East and now a small kingdom of the West.
But it will turn into bloody business unless they can gather a large enough host that will discourage Harald in his quest.

The Kings have agreed to meet in secret at Hafrsfjord in Rogaland with small retinues to discuss what best to do with Harald.
They have agreed to have this meeting under Ting rules and as such have sent for a Hovgod to preside over this meeting.

----

The Kings and their retinues arrived one by one and were all met by the elderly man who would be the law speaker at this meeting.
He assigned an area of the place to each retinue with the order of pitching their tents in a semi circle around the area he had designated the meeting to take place.
When all the Kings and their retinues had arrived and gathered before the law speaker, he declared the meeting under Ting laws in session.
This meant that everyone was equal under the law. Kings and commoners would eat at the same table and have equal privileges and rights.
No disputes would be settled in private, but had to be heard publically. Petty disputes could be settled by Holmgang, but only under the law speaker’s approval.

The Game has begun…

When you get your PM’s and if your role needs to send me a PM
You have until tomorrow at 22:00 GMT to send it (deadline)

Night 1

The journey to Hafrsfjord had been long for most of the retinues and rest would be welcome.
Tents and other facilities had to be taken care of first and the men were even more tired when all had settled in properly. Food were prepared and Kings and common men took their share to their sleeping place expecting sudden collapse when bellies were filled.

One such man was Sander Magnusson, a War Veteran from Sunnmøre. He had a large tankard of delicious mead that he really looked forward to enjoying with his meal. The journey had been strenuous on his old frame and the alcoholic beverage would dull some of the pain he felt in his small back. He got to his sleeping place and sat down. The hot food smelled delicious and he took a large spoonful of the oat porridge stuffed with pieces of apple and honey. That was just what he needed, but more so the beverage standing next to him. He took the tankard and smelled the liquid in it. Strange, it didn’t have the smell of fermented honey and fruit. This close to the fjord it only smelled like the sea. Ah, well it surely would taste good. He took a long sip before the salty taste hit home. He never noticed the little fish called Fjesing who came into his mouth with the sea water. The little thing is very poisonous and as it slid down his throat its barbs left a smear of venom in the angry wounds they caused. Sander collapsed sensing his throat growing thick. He couldn’t utter a word as his windpipe got crushed by the swelling from the venom. The pain was excruciating as the venom cascaded through his blood stream. He could feel muscle and blood vessels disintegrate where the venom went. He tried to scream but no air could find its way down to his lunges. He just lay on his back unable to move and welcomed the darkness that finally enveloped him.

Gunnar Grove a serf and soldier from Rogaland had finished his meal when he heard a primeval roar nearby. He sat up and saw a shadow moving fast towards him. This was strange he thought as a man wearing nearly no clothes sprang into the camp fire light. The man's eyes red and mouth foaming, Gunnar was about to decide if this was a danger or not when the man took Gunnar by the head and smashed a stone into his temple. Gunnar was gone to distant pastures in an instant. The man suddenly calmed down and looked confused. He returned to where he came from, shaking his head, not knowing what had just happened.

Knud Bamse Jardarsson from Hålogaland needed the use of the privy and moved into the nearby woods when he heard a gargling sound behind him. He turned and saw a well known man in his small clothes charging him with a long Frankish blade. Knud was about to protest when the sword cut through his throat with such force that the beheading didn't cause the head to drop. Knud’s body not having its faculties, collapsed in a heap, head rolling into the privy.

Steinar Sturlasson a War Veteran from Fjordane had finished his meal and were oblivious to the ruckus happening in the nearby camps. He felt cold and inched towards the campfire under his blanket. He wished he could get a little warmer.
The campfire, only hot embers in the dark, suddenly blazed up and flames and sparks started dancing around him. The flames grew hotter and more intense and the air around Steinar stated to boil. The heat got so intense that Steinar tried to flee coughing in the unbreathable air. The sparks and flames jumped onto him without burning his clothes or skin. He started to scream but flames jumped into his open throad and singed his windpipe so badly that only gargling sounds could be heard. Steinar was burning from inside out and the pain was excruciating. Soon only the blackened remains of his once strong frame dropped into the mud. He never saw the smirking shadow leaving camp into the forest.

Some commotion came out of these events but for the most part, weary men rested through the night.
It was not until dawn that the retinues realised truly what had happened.
Four men perished during the night, some mysteriously and others obviously. The camps losing men started accusing others of murder and the Hovgod had to step in.
The men from Sunnmøre, Rogaland, Fjordane and Hålogaland all accused each other for the evil deeds committed. The elderly man heard each of their complaints; two of the killings caught his attention and he followed up with lengthy inquiries. The other two he just brushed off with a smirk.
The camps wanted justice and the Hovgod had to settle this by popular vote to stop a possible blood feud. He asked them to investigate because it was obvious that the killings had been done by someone in the camps. There were no settlements for several leagues.

Return later with a candidate that you think is the culprit and justice can be somewhat satisfied.

You have until 22:00 GMT to find us a candidate for this day’s lynching.

Day 1

There were a lot of arguments and nearly no agreement among the retinues of the Kingdoms. Vocal warriors put forth candidates but others didn’t agree and put forth their own candidates. There was finally a public vote and the retinues returned to the Hovgod to present their results.

Tally:

Visorslash : 4 (‘khaan, Kage, Renata, B_Ray)

B_Ray : 3 (Chaotix, TheLastDays, ELITEKING )
Believer : 3 (ATPG, W&F, Diamondeye)
TheLastDays : 3 (classical, Andres, Mr. Stuka, Visorslash)
Askthepizzaguy : 2 (Believer, Khazaar)
Mr. Stuka : 2 (Tratorix, TinCow)
Nightbringer : 2 (We:D, autolycus)
Tratorix : 2 (Mr. Stuka, Major Robert Dump)
Glyphz : 1 (Captain Blackadder)
Death is Yonder : 1 (Ironside)
Woad&fangs : 1 (robbiecon)
Thefluffyone93 : 1 (glyphz)
GeneralHankerchief : 1 (DiY)

Abstains courteously : 1 (Roink)
Not voting : 4 (GH, Thefluff, Romanic, Nightbringer)

The Hovgod looked at the tally and displeasure was radiating from his eyes.
The list of candidates were many and the votes were spread nearly equally between them. He counted and recounted again to make sure that there was in fact one candidate in lead. And there was. The Hovgod put down the tally and looked out over the eagerly awaiting retinues of the Kingdoms of the West.

There seems to be a candidate that has received the most votes. I was not sure, but careful recounting has put Styggbjørn Braute as our candidate to be executed and pay justice the blood of last night’s murders.

The man who was Styggbjørn couldn’t believe his own ears. This was absurd. He always got in trouble for no apparent reason. Now this. The gods surely didn’t show him any favours. Not dying on a battlefield would greatly decrease his chances of dining at the table of Odinn. Styggbjørn looked at the people around him and decided to bolt. Maybe fleeing to Harald Hårfagre would put him in favour with the gods. He turned slowly and walked to the edge of the eagerly awaiting crowd. They all looked at him wondering what would happen next. The Hovgod looked amused and asked Styggbjørn where he thought he was going. Styggbjørn simply said; I am leaving, and then bolted for one of the smaller boats that weren’t dragged up on the beach. The Hovgod turned to the crowd; Are there any archers among us? Several hands were raised. He picked one and came to his side. Draw an arrow on that bow. The man did as requested and the Hovgod whispered something in the man’s ear which caused the man to adjust his aim.

Styggbjørn had reached the boat and had it on the oars in a heartbeat. He couldn’t believe he was getting away. He was out of bow shot now and they would have to get into boats to catch him. Suddenly he felt a piercing pain in his left shoulder that traveled into his torso. He looked over to his shoulder and saw an arrow logged there in a steep angle. Oh no, that might have hit his heart. He could feel the strength leaving him and slumped into darkness.
Now that was an amazing shot, the Hovgod told the man who looked questioningly at his bow. I didn’t know that you were such a good shot.
The crowd cheered that justice had been met. But there were people belonging to the Sunnmøre camp who were not too happy about these events.

The Hovgod continued this day’s agenda and the discussion of what to do with Harald Hårfagre started.

Visorslash has been lynched

Round two is about to start. Challenges is now open. PMs from those with abilities can be sent.

Round 2

Night 2

There were still some bad feelings among the retinue after the long meeting discussing what to do about the usurper king Harald.
There were especially bad feelings in the Sunnmøre camp that just lost one of their own to todays execution. They blamed their neighbours Nordmøre who apparently had not lost any of their own. There were a few fist fights and one Nordmøre man got angry and hurled a rock at a Sunnmøre warrior. The warrior from Sunnmøre ducked and the rock hit a grizzly looking elderly warrior who stood watching. The rock hit just below the eye and apparently caused some pain. Blood flowing down his face the grizzly looking warrior drew his warhammer from its strap on his back. You shall pay for such insolence young pup. The Hovgod standing nearby enquired about the commotion. Seeing the weapon drawn he reminded the grizzly looking warrior about the rules for such things at this meeting. The grizzly man turned to the Hovgod; I ask for official retribution for this insolence. Blood has been drawn and only blood can pay for it. I want Holmgang.
The Hovgod could only agree; So be it.

The grizzly looking man smiled as the young pup from Nørdmøre drew his steel and picked up a shield. It was a particular fine specimen of conquered steel from the south lands. Well tended and apparently in the hands of a skilled man. The grizzly looking warrior attacked first swinging his mighty battle hammer in for a quick end to this fight. The younger man ducked and sliced the thigh of the other man. It was not a serious wound but it infuriated the grizzly warrior. He brought the hammer up as a follow through from the last swing and smashed into the shield arm. The younger warrior buckled from the hard impact on the shield. He felt as if something had broken in his arm. As the grizzly warrior continued to swing the large hammer, the younger man ducked under the swing and slashed in a spin taking the grizzly warrior in the back. A red smear started to appear on the grizzly warriors back. As the man screamed in pain the younger warrior got in another nick of his sword point. This just made the grizzly warrior go berserk. The warhammer flew in wide slashed with incredible force. Each of them would end the younger warrior’s life should they hit home. Even with the bad shield arm the younger warrior evaded the swings and countered with two fine strikes leaving new wounds on the grizzly warriors flesh. The Grizzly warrior changed tactics and kicked the younger man down after a swing of the hammer to his head. The younger man tumbled down and just avoided a crushing blow to the place where he was a fraction of a second before; he swung his blade and caught the grizzly man in his face cutting into the eye socket. The grizzly warrior was beyond feeling pain and just continued swinging the hammer. The young warrior was seriously tired and got his shield up to block another blow. But the hammer came down with such force that it completely disintegrated the shield and hit him in the base of his throat crushing both windpipe and vertebrae. The younger man dropped dead to the ground.
The Nordmøre camp had got their first fallen.

The night was upon the camp and people found their rest in their respective camps.
One such man was Jarn Carsteinsson.
He could not sleep much a wink due to the happenings of the last day. The chill of the night air did not help. After spending half the night in a futile attempt to get some rest, he gave up & took a walk around the camp. He stopped by a campfire to stretch his tired muscles, his back to the fire. The warmth felt good he thought and so he lingered. There was a pot there with some delicious smelling stew and helped himself to it. The stew made him feel a little weird. He did not notice the flame grow and began to tower behind him. When he finally noticed, his shadow has stretched far in front of him and it was far too late to flee. A huge, massive hand covered his face and upper torso, grabbed him and swiftly dragged him into the raging flames...

Sveyn Gunnarsson of Hordaland was patrolling his king’s ships by the beach when he saw a shadow lurking over by his King’s beached longship. He walked slowly over to the area acting as normal as possible when the sky suddenly grew dark and the wind started to blow violently. The longship's sail caught in the wind and started rocking back and forth. By Odinn, he had to save the ship because it would break on the rocks in the sand should it continue to rock like that. He could already hear the planks groan. He ran for the ship to take down that sail. The wind suddenly focused on the sail and pulled the ship along. Sveyn could not believe his own eyes and turned to flee because the ship was gaining momentum and came right for him. Something caught his foot in the sand and he bellied into the beach. The 80 ton longship crushed Sveyn’s body with its keel as it slid over him, burying his body under it. The wind and the darkness cleared and the summer night was yet again silent. Some might wonder why the longship of Erik of Hordaland was dragged so far up the beach, but it would take days and the ship being dragged back down the beach to discover the crushed body that was under it.

The morning came and people began to stir. A burned body was found in the Romsdal camp and people started crying foul. Today’s meeting would start as the one yesterday with an investigation and a payment to justice. Blood for blood as was the tradition of this people.

Start voting. Voting ends at 22:00 GMT tomorrow

Day 2

The voting this day was long and there were many candidates shifting taking the lead.
It took the retinues every minute of the allotted time to finally agree on a candidate.
The Hovgod was slumbering when the tally was given him. He took a quick glance at it:

Tally:

Mr. Stuka : 6 (ATPG, Believer, Renata, TinCow, Tratorix, w&f)

Tratorix : 5 (Chaotix, DiY, ELITE, Kage, Nightbringer)
classical_hero : 4 (autolycus, B_Ray, Diamondeye, ‘khaan)

GeneralHankerchief : 1 (Khazaar)
Khazaar : 1 (GH)
Renata : 1 (Reenk)
TinCow : 1 (classical)

Not voting : 7 (Andres, glyphz, Mr. Stuka, Robbie, Thefluff, TheLastDays, WE:D)

So you barely managed to get a candidate in lead this time as well. And I see there are several not lodging a vote. This is barely acceptable considering we are dealing with someone’s life here.
He looked over the retinues. Could the man named Thorvald Toresson be brought forth?
The men from Nordmøre gasped as they heard the name being called out.
A well toned warrior stepped out of the Nordmøre retinue and walked with sure steps toward the Hovgod who stood smirking in the circle of men.
They have chosen you as the payment to justice for the murder last night. Blood for blood. Do you have anything you wish to say?
The warrior looked with ice cold eyes over the eager crowds. I am worried about my King. Who will protect him now?
I am sure some arrangements can be made. The Hovgod looked into the ice cold eyes, searching. I see a man who will serve Odinn and as such, I wish you adieu. The Hovgod brought his knife which he had hidden in his sleeve in a fluid but powerful stab, which pierced the warrior’s heart. Blood started flowing out of the wound and Thorvald buckled.
Soon life disappeared from those icy eyes.

The Hovgod twirled and stated: Well, should we continue where we left off yesterday?

Challenges can be given from this point. If you have already challenged after the deadline, I will count those as valid.
PMs from those who can – deadline 22:00 GMT Saturday the 16th of July

Round 3

Night 3

Results Holmgang # 2 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?136790-Midgardsaga-III-Holmgang-thread.&p=2053343987&viewfull=1#post2053343987)

The execution of a dear and respected member of the Nordmøre camp didn’t go well with the Nørdmøre retinue. They threw wild accusations around and some minor fights ensued.
Some members of the Romsdal retinue laughed at the feeble Nordmøre efforts to share blame of the killings. A Nordmøre man took a swing at a prominent member of the Romsdal retinue and landed a hook to his jaw. The Romsdal man stumbled, but got up again with speed and swung at the Nordmøre man. The swing was so powerful that he couldn’t stop when the Nordmøre ducked. The fist took a bystander in the nose and the man went down nose bloody and broken. The bystander leaped up in seconds and felt his broken nose with surprise. Then he eyed the one who caused it. You and me, Holmgang now.
The Hovgod came rushing to the place and was about to object when he saw the injured man’s cold eyes. Blood for blood then.

The bystander drew his polished sword and attacked at once. The Romsdal man who would fight this Holmgang didn’t have time to draw his, so he grabbed a fistful of sand and threw it into the eyes of the bystander coming towards him at full speed. The bystander roared when he was temporary blinded and the Romsdal man kneed him in the groin as he passed and kicked him in the small back. The bystander went down and the Romsdal man had time to draw his sword and get ready before the bystander was back up slashing wildly around him. One of those swings did find its way home and a crimson stain erupted from the shoulder of the Romsdal man.
The Romsdal man took the next swings on his blade and cut into the forearm of the attacker, but one did get through his guard and left a red angry wound across his ribs.
The next wound was dealt by the Romsdal man though, and a series of slashes left the bystander bleeding on the ground ready to yield. But this was not the end the Romsdal man had hoped for. The bystander all though tired looking leaped to his feet with new vigour and with immense force knocked the guard of the Romsdal man aside and dealt two wounds to his arms before running him through. The Romsdal man looked incredulously at the hilt hugging his rib cage. Blood started running fast from his torso and with it his life.

Night was settling on the camp and Arnvid Torarinsson felt especially rejuvenated but tired all the same. It was time for some shut eye. Arnvid went to his resting place and started honing his fine blade, something he did every night. It was important that the tools of a warrior were well tended. While honing his sword, Arnvid heard a commotion behind him. He looked over his shoulder and was barely able to duck his head under a slash of steel that would have taken his head off. A half naked man with crazed eyes and foam around his mouth was desperately trying to kill him. Arnvid got to his feet thinking this man was not right in the head. Arnvid was already holding his perfectly balanced blade honed with razor edges. The apparently crazed man turned with incredible speed and lunged for Arnvid. Arnvid had for some reason no problems avoiding the attacks from the crazed man. The crazed man hacked and slashed wildly but with enough force should any of them hit Arnvid, he would lose a limb or worse. The attacks grew to a crescendo and Arnvid avoided them all.
The man was finally getting tired and realizing he could not finish what he had started ran into the woods, leaving a panting Arnvid. He would need to hone that blade again.

The grizzled warrior from the last Holmgang tended his wounds. It was time to change the bandages. He removed the one over his left eye. As painful as it was he calmly stripped the wound for clinging bandage without so much as a wince.
He was about to reaply with fresh bandage when he heard breaking noises in the woods just behind him. He got up and looked around. He never saw the big pine that swung into the side of his head. There was a blinding flash and he felt his body flying through the air into the woods finally hitting another pine. His broken body slammed to the ground and his head swam. It would take some time to recover from this injury was his first though. He felt the ground shake in a set interval, as if something enormous was walking towards him. A inhumanly dark voice split the night; So, you have problems keeping your eyes in this world too? The grizzled warrior turned his head and saw a large darkness towering over him, yellow eyes beaming in the darkness. I told you this was our man, the voice continued. Another shadow appeared with nearly identical beaming eyes. The grizzled man, saw the first shadow move and felt and heard a ripple in the ground. He tried to move, but his body wasn’t up to it. He felt every bone crush in his body as a boulder the size of a long ship came crashing down atop him. He was still conscious when he felt the ground burn around him turning the boulder molten. This was more than he could handle and released his hold on this world. Fresh air blew in his face as he stood staring over the Bitterfrost Bridge. It would be a while before he would be able to go back over to Midgard.

The morning came and it was apparent that another man was missing and a story of a survivor after an attempted murder told them that there were still murderers among them.
The Hovgod asked them to again find a candidate and hopefully the very someone who had performed the deeds these last few nights.

Interesting, it seems you are fond of choosing a particular brand of trade in your blames.
Could Gunnvald Jardarsson please step forward? A gasp could be heard from the retinue from Fjordane. A hulking man strode from their midst, steel cold eyes and a sure step. This was a renowned fighter who had served in Constantinople as a guard. Blood for blood I am afraid; The Hovgod walked slowly around Gunnvald. Any last words? Gunnvald looked at the Hovgod with steel blue eyes and then to the retinue of Fjordane. Take care of him for me will ya? The Retinue from Fjordane all accepted with a clap to their right shoulder and a vocal; Aye.
Gunnvald turned to the Hovgod, voice going rather raspy ice cold. Do your deed and give my salutations to “sorgvarsler”. The Hovgod snapped to, looking inquiringly into the ice cold eyes of Gunnvald before letting a little smirk appear. Maybe you are lucky and will find yourself at the table of our Allfather, you could bring your own salutations. And by that the Hovgod produced a sharp knife in his right hand and with a fluid motion cut deep into Gunnvald’s throat.
Gunnvald couldn’t utter another word and grabbed his throat trying to staunch the life flowing out between his fingers. Soon he lost conscience and thumped to the ground.

Was this the man responsible for the murders? The Hovgod looked out over the crowd; I think you chose badly this day. Now to business...

Round 4

Night 4

Holmgang 3 results (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?136790-Midgardsaga-III-Holmgang-thread.&p=2053344875&viewfull=1#post2053344875)

The camps were not particularly happy about the fact that they had chosen poorly in the last execution. They wanted to find scapegoats and accusations flew across camps. Some took to pushing and shoving. One man from Rogaland got a bit exited and knocked down a Hålogaland man with a high hook. The man from Hålogaland bled from the nose. When the others around saw it, they all circled the two hooting for more blood. The man from Hålogaland looked over to where the Hovgod stood and saw that he was nodding. Blood for blood.
The Rogaland man saw it too and drew a battle axe from his belt and attacked at once. Coming at full speed, the man from Hålogaland was not able to even draw his own fine specimen of steel. The Rogaland man shouldered the man from Hålogoaland who went down in a heap. The axe followed suit and grazed the shoulder of the man from Hålogaland who tried to squirm out of this dangerous position. He kicked the legs under from the Rogaland man and got up blade ready. The Rogaland man got to his own feet, but he was a bit too late as the man from Hålogaland was ready with a tri-combination that left wounds and finally a pierced heart. The man from Rogaland slumped dead to the ground.

Evening was again upon the camps and people started to settle in, but not this particular man. He ate with his companions and when they were all slumbering he arose and went searching for a particular camp. When he finally found it, he settled down beside a large fir tree watching the sleeping men. He suddenly heard a dark and sinister laughter behind him. That was strange he should have normally heard them approaching from miles away. He turned to find two yellow eyes hanging in the darkness. He heard something to his left but before he could react a trident came flying through the air, catching his frail body and sending it impaled on the trident clear across the camp and pinned him to a large boulder. His body was broken from the rather rough treatment and he could barely move. He could hear them clearly now, walking towards him, deep ragged breaths, the stink of the underworld all around them.
He could do nothing but steeled himself all the same. A dark but gentle voice talked first. It was as if heard a small storm communicating with him. You were quite foolish to brandish your powers so in that fight. Did you think we wouldn’t notice? A darker brutal voice echoed; Yeah... quite amateurish of you.. ha ha. The bigger shadow moved closer and the stench of Jotun was gushing out of his breath. Tell Odin, Loki says Hi and deliver him this message: This time, Midgard is mine.
The big shadow stretched forth a huge hand and enveloped his upper torso. Now, die!! The big shadow squeezed and he could feel the shoulders giving in, being crushed into his body. Then his ribcage gave in and he could feel the inner organs being pierced by bone fragments. The broken ribs started poking holes in his body and organs and blood was squeezed out of them. This body was dying. The huge shadow moved his index finger up around his neck and with a flick snapped his neck. He was suddenly somewhere else looking over the Bitterfrost Bridge. That was just too bad; maybe he shouldn’t have intensified his search for the Jotun by challenging the weak humans.

Hundfjord Mørekonge was tired but he just had to empty his bladder before turning in. The forest around him was relatively quiet, only the sound of the night birds and a hooting owl could be heard. But there was another noise too. Someone was moving purposeful but hasty towards him. He eased his muscles, readying himself for the attacker who suddenly burst out of some bushes. Hundfjord was surprised; You? Wha... He wasn’t able to finish before he had to duck under what seemed like a well known Frankish blade. The hilt of ivory and gold spoke of a gift from the Emperor of Byzantine. The rest of the man was however not right. His eyes were wild and there was some foaming around his mouth. And he didn’t were a shirt on his naked upper body. Hunfjord had not taken off his own Frankish blade and it was soon out of its sheath, ready. He tried to block the next swing, but the strength behind it was amazing. It just knocked his own blade aside and slammed it broadside into his shoulder.
This was not good. Hundfjord tried to counter but the speed of this man was to great and the strength nearly inhuman. He couldn’t block the overhand slash that took his head clean off his shoulders.

Morning broke and the dead King of Nordmøre was found beheaded in the forest. This was not good. The Nordmøre camp was in tatters and they wanted to Holmgang everybody. The Hovgod had to use all his persuasive powers to calm them down. When he felt that they were calm enough, he admonished the rest of the camp to really but their small grey to good use and find these bastards responsible for these murders.

Day 4

The Hovgod paced impatiently. These murders were just strange. Some men just disappeared others were brutalised. Could the men disappearing be responsible for the brutal murders? This was indeed a mystery.
The man keeping the tally finally brought it to the Hovgod:

Nightbringer : 6 (ATPG, autolycus, Chaotix, Romanic, TinCow, Tratorix)

TheLastDays : 4 (Andres, GH, Roink, WE:D)

Not bad, a more decisive vote than last. Well, I really hope this man is somewhat responsible for some of the evil deeds that has been hitting this camp.
Bring Kjetil Daude Hjalmarsson forward. He will be paying blood for blood.
The man called Kjetil Daude stepped forward. He looked nervous.
Do you doubt having a place at Odinn’ table, friend? Do you doubt the very existence of the Gods of Asgard ? What is it with you feeble... ehm... have you anything to say to these men who have condemned you? No?
Then let get this over with, shall we?
He looked over the crowd; you there, any good with that bow of yours? Yes? Then please, one through the heart.
The man quickly drew an arrow on his bow and let loose. It flew true and pierced the Romsdal man called Kjetil through the heart who died in seconds.

Hmm, not the ending I was hoping for. Tomorrow is another day, eh? Let’s hope we can draw on some luck then.

The crowd was rather silent after the execution. They started on their way to their respective camps when suddenly the silence was pierced by someone; If it hadn’t been for that “female dog” Gyda, this would have been avoided. The men from Hordaland were bristling as it was their princess this dog was slagging. Take that back you filthy son of a worthless thrall. A particular big fella stood forth from the Hordaland camp pointing at the Rogaland sod who had uttered the hateful words against Gyda. The Rogaland man just shrugged; I spoke the words that are on everyone’s tongue, but dare not spit.
The Hordaland man was looming over the Rogaland man in moments, Take it back, NOW!!!
Or what? Answered the Rogaland man. The Hordaland man puffed up his chest; I will break you...
The Rogaland man smiled: With what? That limp hard-on you have for Erik’s daughter? The Hordaland man took the Rogaland man by the throat and lifted him into the air. The Rogaland man kicked the Hordaland man in the roe sack which caused him to be dropped. The Hordaland man needed a few seconds, but then he came at the Rogaland man with his battle axe drawn. The Rogaland man drew his own fine and sharp steel blade and with a quick Varangian tri-combo wounded the Hordaland man so that he dropped his axe... and his head.

A large man was sitting alone contemplating while polishing his was hammer. The Jotun... He could sometime smell them, the filthy sods they were. But then the vapour would disappear.
They must be here, hiding.
A stranger appears, carrying two horns of mead. He sits himself opposite the large man and offers one to him. The large man accepts, always thirsty. The stranger holds his horn high; To Gyda and her usurper lover. The large man holds his high too, but doesn’t reply. It was a strange skål, but hey... mead is mead. Skål!!
The large man drinks deeply... the liquid spilling from his chin. He wants to drain the horn in one go, but there seems to be no end. He gulps and gulps but there is no end to it.
This is ridiculous, He could draw a whole pitcher in one go, this mead horn was but a fraction of that. He finally couldn’t sink another drop and throws the horn away. It lands and sea-water is gushing out of it.
The stranger laughs; I can’t believe you fell for that twice.
The large man spits and then it dawns on him as he can smell it. But it was too late. A pair of huge hands grabs him from behind with such force that his shoulders feel as they are being pulverized. The stranger gets to his feet and where a normal human was before, a huge creature with yellow eyes stand. I guess you wish you were in your true form, but you can’t change as fast as we can... the horn he is holding in his huge hand changes too and becomes a large trident which he places at the large man’s throat. The large man struggles; You!!
The creature laughs with a chill voice and talks to the one who is holding the large man in some guttural language. The large man gets angry and starts to pull away from the creature holding him. He summons all his strength and by sheer will power taps into his true core. He feels his arms fracturing and shoulders dislocating. Then the Creature lets him go. The momentum that had been building up catapults him into the trident which runs him through.
The creature holding the trident pins the large man to the ground with a powerful stab. The large man struggles to get loose, but the other creature is there holding something over his head. He smiles and then drops the 20 ton boulder on top of the large man, utterly crushing his body. The large man suddenly finds himself standing by the Bitterfrost Bridge, red hair and beard flowing in the wind. He yells toward Midgard; I will have your heads for this Jotun.
He slams the ground with his mighty fist and Midgard trembles, waking people up in the middle of the night.

Gyda Eiriksdottir sneaks out of the forest, looking for a place to rest when she hears someone yelling from the right. She stops and hunkers down. A half naked man comes running towards her. She first thinks he can’t see her, but he looks pretty determined to reach the place where she is. She gets up and starts running but her skirts doesn’t allow for speed. The man soon catches up to her and swings his Frankish sword at her. She barely gets away, but a crimson stain appears on her back. She explodes; You insolent maggot!!!. She turns and meets the crazed man head on with her own blade. The man seems under the influence of something. His eyes are blood red and white foam is running from his mouth. She suddenly remembers; Berserkrgangr!! This man is poisoned. With cat like movements she dances around the wild swings of his expensive blade. It is not easy as the state he is in, greatly enhances speed and strength. This won’t do – she can’t die, here, not like this. She draws on her inner strength and suddenly lashes out, lopping off the crazed man’s arm. The crazed man doesn’t seem to lose momentum. He tries to grab her by the throat with his free hand. She is angry now. With a twirl and a strong slash she takes his head. She walks slowly up to the now still body and its silent head. I will not let you jeopardise my mission, fool man. Gyda dries her sword on the grass while scanning the area. I hope no-one noticed.

Tormod Safte Olavsson was tired after a long day of discussions. He wanted nothing but sleep.
He would not get any... As he walked alone near the camp, he was attacked by a crazed man whom seemed intent on killing him. This man was yelling and screaming with spit and saliva foaming around his mouth. Tormod took to his side, but didn’t find his sword. That’s right, it was being oiled by a serf man. This was not good. The crazed man wielded an axe and small trees were chopped down by the swings that missed Tormod.
The crazed man continued his advance and Tormod’s leg got caught on a rock. He fell to the ground and didn’t feel the axe cleaving his head.
The crazed man continued into the forest howling like a rabid dog and suddenly dropped to the ground exhausted.

The morning came and dire news with it. Two kings were slain this night. The King of Sunnmøre and Rogaland lay at the feet of the Hovgod who looked genuinely sad. This is dire news indeed. Let’s hope we can contain any anger that their retinues might have. And let’s keep this under wraps for now. We do not want their home kingdoms mustering.

Let’s really do our jobs this round and find the perpetrators.

Day 5

The voting this day was permeated by indecision. People didn’t know who to vote for and many changed their vote several times. The Hovgod paced back and forth. The allotted time was long past. May I have the tally please, he asked.
The one carrying the tally had to make some last adjustments. The tally was finally presented:

Diamondeye : 5 (Chaotix, Khazaar, TheFluff, WE:D, Tratorix)

Romanic : 3 (ATPG, Roink, TheLastDays)
Diamondeye : 2 (Believer, Renata)
Askthepizzaguy: 1 (TinCow)

Not voting : 6 (Andres, autolycus, Diamondeye, glyphz, robbiecon, Romanic)

Are these the legal votes? They were. Some had wanted to change their votes in the last minutes before the deadline and some later. These are the votes that were lodged within time.
Ok... Let’s have a look.
Well it is decisive. One candidate is clearly in the lead, all though you tried to change this candidate in the very last minutes.
I guess that means you Dagfinn Jølster Smedvig of Nordmøre. There were not many from Nordmøre left. They had lost both champion and king. This was their last Veteran.
The Hovgod gave a quick nod to the bowman from the last execution. Yes Dagfinn, would you be so kind as to assist me up here? The large veteran looked around suspiciously but went up to the Hovgod all the same. His eyes was hard and had an inner light. The Hovgod knew well who this was. Yes... I mean to ask you.. The Hovgod made the sign that the bowman was waiting for. The bowman strung an arrow and released in one fluid motion and the arrow found its mark. Right through the heart of Dagfinn.
Dagfinn growled but could not act. He tried to speak, but blood fountained up his throat and choked him. The Hovgod grabbed the jaw of the dying man; Say hello to my daughter will ya?
Dagfinn found himself looking back at Midgard. A sweet woman’s voice came from behind him. Well, well, well, if it isn’t a large and handsome lad, come to visit me. Tell me your story. Dagfinn turned and looked into the eyes of a voluptuous black haired woman. Maybe this wasn’t too bad at all...

Round 6

Night 6

Holmgang results #5 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?136790-Midgardsaga-III-Holmgang-thread.&p=2053347241&viewfull=1#post2053347241)

Feelings were still raw after the execution, people just couldn’t let it go. They still argued who should have been executed. Two men was especially in disagreement and despite what the Hovgod would rule, they drew their blades.
They threw taunts at each other while assessing their opponent’s strengths. They each had a fine specimen of Frankish steel, forged by the very masters of swords. Swords bought with much gold or gifted by Emperors.
One came from Hordaland and the other from Hålogaland. The Hålogaland man threw the first slash which came back red. The man from Hordaland, a large man of nearly 7 feet roared in pain. But his training with the Varangian guard proved to those watching why a former captain of such a guard should not be trifled with.
The Hordaland man wielded his blade as a master and he avoided every attack and counter that came his way. The Hålogaland got severely injured and could no longer defend himself. The Hordaland man slashed powerfully downward, opening the rib cage of the Hålogaland man who slumped backwards obviously dead.

A dark shadow lurked into the Hålogaland camp looking for a certain man. The man was however nowhere to be found. The shadow stood up and sniffed the air and grinned. He searched the area and finally found what he was looking for. He crouched and picked up a King’s cloak pin. He whispered; Two remain.

A cloaked man approaches the place where Eirik of Hordaland rests, holding an amulet in his hand. Greetings, Eirik King of Hordaland. The Gods are pleased with your actions, and it is time for your ascension.
Eirik looked eager now. The cloaked figure continued; there must be an official ceremony to give you our blessing.
The cloaked figure led Eirik out to the fjord. He waved his hands and the surface of the sea froze solid. Eirik could hear beautiful laughter and from both ends of the fjord, beautiful women came flowing over the ice. They had something attached to their feet that made it easier to travel on ice. They surrounded Eirik and asked if he would join them in a game played on ice. Yes sure. They gave him a stick that ended with a bend. The goal of this game is to push this stone with your stick and put it into that box over there. She pointed at a frame with a fish net attached to it. The beautiful women divided into two groups and Eirik joined one of the groups playing as something they called Captain. They had a laugh and Eirik greatly enjoyed the game and was able to score the final goal. The winning team surrounded him again and showered him with kisses and promises of an eventful night. The cloaked figure came over and handed Eirik an engraved cup and told him that he has won the right to become a God.

Another cloaked figure hurries onto the ice and comes right up to the cloaked figure with Eirik. They whispered. The cloaked figure holding the cup suddenly turns to Eirik and apologizes. I am sorry but I have been informed that you have already been traded to another set of Gods two days ago. I am sorry; we have to take your price back. I will however arrange transportation for you to your new Gods.
The cloaked figure waves his hands and the ice is gone. Eirik sinks into the dark ocean. He can’t swim and drowns. The cloaked figure smiles wickedly and transforms into a hideous creature 10 feet tall. These puny humans are so easily distracted. The beautiful women transform into seals and swims out to open sea.

The camps awake and finds another King missing. He is found drowned on the beach.
The Hovgod cries vengeance upon the perpetrators. Find them, find them NOW!!!

Day 6

The remaining retinues were not at all sure who the perpetrators were. They discussed the possibility that there was the usurper king among them.
And that he might be the cause of all this. Another theory was that Jotun was among them, laughable as that was.
The Hovgod only smiled when these theories were presented to him.
Let's have the tally shall we?

Askthepizzaguy: 3 (Thefluff, TinCow, Tratorix)
glyphz : 3 (ATPG, Romanic, TheLastDays)

Romanic: 2 (Chaotix, glyphz)
TheLastDays: 1 (WE:D)

not voting: 3 (Andres, Khazaar, robbiecon)

Oh this is unfortunate; said the Hovgod. You know I can't allow an execution when it is not clear who we should execute.
You have two candidates with 3 votes each. I am sorry but we will have to end this day with no blood.

Round 7

Night 7

Holmgang # 6 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?136790-Midgardsaga-III-Holmgang-thread.&p=2053348305&viewfull=1#post2053348305)

The camps were in an uproar after the fiasco, not being able to agree on a candidate for the execution. Words were hard and insulting and one particular man from Fjordane was greatly insulted. He pulled his axe from his belt and yelled challenges to the man who had insulted him. The man from Rogaland answered and drew his fine sharp steel. The Rogaland man drew first blood, but the man from Fjordane was skilled with his axe and it was a heavier weapon in close quarters. He missed his first swing, or apparently missed. He brought the butt of the head back up into the shoulder of the Rogaland man who went down. The Fjordane man was over him in a heartbeat and made mince out of the torso of the Rogaland man who died quite loudly.

Vegard Bjarnesson was weary skulking around the camp. These last days had seen multiple murders. Murders on more capable men than himself. He really should get out of here.
As he neared the resting place he heard someone yelling close by. He looked around and out of the shadows came a half naked man running, sword over his head ready to strike. Vegard unsheathed his own trusted and well used sword and prepared for the strike. The apparently crazed man swung at Vegard who ducked under the razor sharp steel. Vegard was back up in two flashes ready for the next swing. He took it on his blade and felt the tremendous power behind it. It was as if this crazed man was under the influence of something that made him this powerful. As he was battling the crazed man, he heard another yell behind him. He half turned and barely saw the glimmer of a fine specimen of a Frankish blade coming towards his head. Vegard slumped to the ground with his head split open. The two bare chested men looked at each other and departed the scene on separate ways.

After the Holmgang, a lusterous and beautiful woman approaches Jan Pan liker Tran. Follow me, you sexy man. I've got a surprise for you!
She laughs and runs off into the woods. He follows, but she is very fast and he soon falls behind. Eventually he comes to the edge of the fjord, and there in the water is the beautiful woman. Her clothes are in a pile on the shore. She laughs at him again and beckons him to come into the water. Jan Pan quickly strips off his cloths and dives into the water and swims to her. She moves close, and he embraces her. He closes his eyes and puts his arms around her naked body. Something feels odd though. Her back is hairy. Very hairy. And she has really big muscles. He opens his eyes and finds himself kissing a dark and scary creature. He screams, pulls back, and tried not to vomit. The creature looks at him with yellow sad eyes. What's wrong, dear? Don't you think I'm pretty?
The creature puckers his lips and moves to kiss Jan Pan again. He screams and starts swimming for the shore. The creature grabs him by the leg and drags him back into the deep water. "But I love you, you big, brave man! KISS ME!" The creature grabs Jan Pan by the head and kisses him deeply. Very deeply. Jan could not even breathe. He flails against the creature and tries to break free, but he cannot, the creature is too strong. The world goes dark around him and he dies. After his body goes limp in the water, the creature scowls at Jan’s corpse and tosses it aside. Typical man, can't last more than a minute.

Day 7

The choosing of a candidate today was easier. Nearly all agreed. The man they had chosen was a particular quite one. It is always the quiet ones. They are always behind all the evil that happens in this world. The tally was presented to the Hovgod:

Robbiecon : 5 (Andres, ATPG, glyphz, Romanic, TinCow)
Glyphz: 2 (Chaotix, robbiecon)

Not voting: 2 (Khazaar, Thefluff)

The Hovgod smirked; I guess keeping to yourself serf, didn’t do you any favours? Anything you want to say to our dear followers; no, nothing?... Alrighty then. Get this over with will ya? The Hovgod gave the sign and an arrow shot through the air from 200 paces away and pierced the heart of the man they had chosen as today’s payment. Blood for blood.
Rasmus Raude the serf, slumped to the ground dead.
The Hovgod turned to the crowd. I am such a fine tutor. I could get a blind man to shoot a bulls eye from 50 paces.

Round 8

Night 8

Holmgang #7 (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?136790-Midgardsaga-III-Holmgang-thread.&p=2053349497&viewfull=1#post2053349497)

The last Hordaland man was not amused by the Hovgod’s boastings. He drew his sword and pointed it at the Hovgod. You are an impostor and a fraud. This has been nothing but a disaster from the moment we sat foot on this beach and I believe you are responsible. What say you? The Hovgod smirked. So you don’t believe I am who I say I am? I can’t exactly recall who I said I was. Maybe I didn’t tell you and therefore you are in error saying that I am an impostor. I am exactly who I am and I have not hidden that fact. Now my dear Hordaland, you have drawn your sword and in my book that is a challenge.
The elderly Hovgod righted himself and drew a nice blade that he had hidden under his cloak. It was a blade none of those present had ever seen before. Oh... yes, this is a famous blade. But that is a story for later. The Hovgod put an impressive show twirling the sword in his hands. The Hordaland man and those gathered was amazed at the skill, handling that blade. Before the Hordaland man could react, the Hovgod had inflicted two serious wounds on the man from Hordaland. The Hovgod pulled back and amusement could be found in his clear sparkling dark eyes. Didn’t see that coming did you?
The man from Hordaland got up and threw a Varangian feint that was supposed to hamstring, but it failed and instead cut the Hovgod in the back of his thigh. The Hovgod yelled out in surprise, but his dark eyes narrowed and fury could be seen in them. It didn’t take long. The Hovgod was no longer playing cat’n mouse. He just slashed the Hordaland man in the throat with such speed that the Hordaland man wasn’t able to react. He fell to the ground bleeding his life from an ugly cut in his throat.

Gyda was out and about looking for someone when she was attacked by a half naked man. She groaned; Not again...
She started running but was soon trapped by another half naked man who blocked her path. This man had a Frankish blade and was waiting for her, mouth foaming and with wild eyes.
She didn’t know what to do and just fell over playing dead. The man following her got confused when he saw her drop to the ground like that. The man waiting for her was not, but attacked.
He started running, sword lifted behind his shoulder. Gyda had a half opened eye and was about to roll when the crazy man with the Frankish sword lashed out. She didn’t feel any pain but jumped when a head landed beside her. The one half naked man had killed the other with a single stroke of his expensive blade.

Fridtjof Kongsbane Thorsteinsson sneaked around the camp alone. He knew his life was in danger. He should never have agreed to come here in the first place. He...

Fridtjof stopped cold. He felt he was being watched, and slowly unsheathed his famous Frankish blade. "Show y-yourself!" he shouted. He wanted to sound unafraid, but his voice betrayed his fear. Sensing movement, he turned towards it, sword pointing towards it . Out of the shadows, a woman came. She was holding out a glimmering sword in her two hands. Fridjof had never seen such a marvellous reddish blade and abandoned his sword and instinctively walked towards the woman. He took the sword from her hands and marvelled at it. He knew right away it was no ordinary blade.
This sword... What is it's name?
Lævateinn.
This?! This is Læ-
Yes. Lævateinn; answered an inhuman voice.
Fridtjof's blood froze. He turned around to see a dark creature standing where the woman was moments ago. She had moved over to where he had let go of his sword.
The legendary sword; the creature said as he picked up Fridjof’s abandoned Frankish blade. Fridjof noticed the yellow eyes shining in the darkness but he didn’t run away. He stood his ground, facing the creature.
The creature let out a loud cackle, then smiled. In his hands was a long blade shimmering with a reddish hue. Fridtjof looked at his hands and despaired. He was no longer holding Lævateinn but a long twig.

Fridtjof wanted to run, but the creature rushed him, sword pointing right at him. Fridtjof was paralyzed. He was run through and pinned against a tree. The pain was draining his will to live, but the creature grabbed him by the jaw and stared him in the eyes. Fridtjof felt something weird and started coughing and sea water spurted out of his mouth. He could not draw another breath. He was drowning. Darkness soon enveloped him.
He was found in the morning, his blade lying on the ground beside him, dropped from a limp hand. He was skewered on a branch of a tree with water flowing from his open mouth.

Day 8

There were only a few left in the camps at Hafsrfjord. Not many votes were needed to finalise on a candidate. At one point it seemed as if there would be a tie between Gyda Eiriksdottir and Karstein Lange Knudsson. This changed in the last minutes before the deadline and the votes were tied between King Rodulv of Romsdal and Karstein Lange Knudsson of Fjordane. Gyda was the one who would decide the vote. She couldn’t vote for the King so the vote ended in favour of Karstein.

It was Jardar Magnusson, king of Rogaland who brought the tally to the Hovgod. The Hovgod took one look at it and nodded to the king of Romsdal who lifted his bow and shot an arrow straight up into the air. The Hovgod turned to Karstein; so, they think you are responsible for the killing these last few nights. Do you have anything to say? Wait, never mind I doubt you have time to protest. As Karstein was about to open his mouth the arrow struck through his left shoulder and pierced his heart. He slumped to the ground dead.

The Hovgod grinned; now that is what I call a decent shot. The four remaining gathered around the corpse of Karstein. Jardar, king of Rogaland broke the silence first; I wonder if we got our man? Gyda looked up at his face; well I know you were running around half naked with that sword of yours. It is unmistakeable. You also killed Ragnar “the Anvil” last night. I was the only witness. Jardar went pale; no, you must be mistaken, I have no such recollection.
The Hovgod smirked; I must apologise. That was all my fault. I have been experimenting with new powerful berserkrgangr potions. Unfortunately they weren’t that good.

Well, said Jardar. What do we do now? It was Rodulv who answered; I think Gyda here needs to go back to her “betrothed” with the news that the west is taking up arms, and I’ll make sure the west meets him.. I guess we could meet here at Hafsrfjord?
Jardar cried; NO!! That is exactly what we were supposed to avoid. We can’t wage war now, it will tax or nations greatly.
That is the whole point. It was the Hovgod who replied. Jardar Magnusson looked from one face to the other bewildered. What? This is not... he began his iteration of what he had already stated. The Hovgod interrupted him; Oh be quiet maggot. He turned to Gyda; well Æge, is this not what we had agreed on? This will help you create that wonderful chaos that might lead to Ragnarok and I get my revenge on the pretentious Æsir. By the way, I think it is time that I go and use my skills on a certain invulnerable God. I really dislike all the attention he gets from the maidens.
Rodulv of Romsdal chuckled. Yeah, you are a master teacher of the bow, all though I think I am a natural. The Hovgod smirked; I doubt your skill, Surt, goes beyond fire and brimstone.
Rodulv countered; the arts of magic are not only given the Æsir. This was also taught us.

Jardar couldn’t believe his own ears. He wanted to get out of there to warn the kingdoms. But how? The others noticed his nervousness and grinned; I think our little human wants to be somewhere else? Both Gyda and Rodulv transformed into hideous monsters 10 feet tall. I guess we could help him. The Jotun called Ægir snapped up Jardar with one hand, nearly crushing him in his grip. The other one, Surt, uprooted a tree; We’ll help you, puny human. Ægir ran to the end of the beach, Surt following suit. Ægir stopped and yelled; Ready? Surt got to the beach, the tree in both hands, held like a giant club; Ready!!.
Ægir threw Jardar into the air in Surt’s general direction. Surt’s grip on the tree firmed and it caught fire. Jardar didn’t feel the impact more than a fraction of a second before he was gone. His broken remains flew like a fire ball towards the sky. The Jotun laughed hard, this was surly the most fun they have had in centuries. The Hovgod approached; Well lads, I take my leave. It was fun working with you guys. All the same to you Loki; replied Surt.
The Jotun transformed back to their human disguises and went separate ways. Ægir to find king Harald and Surt to gather the forces of the west.

Far up in Jotunheimen, a young girl named Gyda pounded on the large door that was the exit of her prison; let me out you bastards. I want to go home. I miss my father. A rumbling voice was heard from the outside; Soon my dear, soon...

Jotun victory!!!
