I propose this thread as a feel good thread. Post here all topics that have left a warm glow in your heart.

First up.

David Atkinson, 46, jumped into the River Ouse in York and pulled the baby from the water after hearing her mother's screams for help.

Mr Atkinson was joined in the rescue by two other men on Thursday morning.

The 31-year-old mother was pushing her daughter in a pram near Lendal Bridge when she stopped to fasten the coat of her other child. As she helped the child with her coat, the pram rolled into the river.

Mr Atkinson, who was cycling home, stopped and leapt into the river, pulling the pram and child to safety. Police believe he almost certainly saved the baby's life.

He told the Press newspaper: ''It felt like it was in slow motion - like something out of a film. I was so scared.

''I ran and tried to grasp the handles of the pram, but couldn't and it went into the water. I thought there is nothing else to do but jump in after her.

''Yes, I was scared, but I had to try. Luckily she wasn't under long. I then just gave the mum a hug - she was so upset. I think I said something daft like 'just make sure she has a good life'.

Police said the mother, who has not been named, was shaken and upset by the incident but the child suffered no harm as a result of the incident.

hey... that's kind of pedophiliac don't you think? it's kinda reasonable if he's in 20's or at least early 30's to marry a not yet 16 y old, but... 50's /// guys... that's more fit to be his child!

You're obviously jealous that you did not get her first. She is not a child, look at her photos, she is a nice Christian Girl and not doing this at all for career or attention. Plus, her parents signed off on it. All those things equal legal consent. I wonder if he has to help her with her math homework.

From last year, but quite remarkable, somewhere between phenomenal good luck and heroics. No rugby catch will top catching a baby falling seven stories, bouncing off a canopy: http://abcnews.go.com/International/video/bouncing-baby-survives-story-fall-12054679

This thread belongs in the frontroom. I am offended. The backroom is for man's inhumanity towards man

This made me laugh....

A computer was something on TV
From a science-fiction show of note
A window was something you hated to clean
And ram was the cousin of a goat

Meg was the name of my girlfriend
And gig was a job for the nights
Now they all mean different things
And that really mega bytes.

An application was for employment
A programme was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano.

Memory was something that you lost with age
A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3 inch Floppy
You hoped nobody found out.

Compress was something you did to the rubbish
Not something you did to a file
And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while.

Log on was adding wood to the fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode.

Cut you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu.

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head
I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash
But when it happens they wish they were dead
