Having been employed recently, you start thinking about the following rig of yours:

Gigabyte EX58-UD3R (rev 1.0)
Intel Core i7 920 @2.66 GHz
Kingston HyperX 3*2 GB DDR3 RAM
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
Various HDD (no SSD)
OCZ StealthXtreme 700W PSU

You will obtain your very first wage in about 2 weeks and you reckon your gaming performance to be bottlenecked at the video card although it's still a powerful one. Under these circumstances you:

A) would go for a second 5XXX ATI and go CrossFire (and a PSU if necessary)
B) would sell the current VGA and purchase a top notch single ATI
C) would sell the current VGA and purchase a top notch single Nvidia
D) would sell the current VGA and purchase two high end calibre Nvidia cards instead of the one at the top and go SLI (and a PSU if necessary)
E) would hit the gym 'cause you know those love handles have been bugging you for quite some time now.
F) Gah!

That's a pretty up-to-date machine, so I'd go with option E.

C

I'm an Nvidia fanboy, but not so much of a fanboy that I would vote D. Modern cards are so powerful, and modern games so under-utilizing the resources, that going SLI with modern cards seems like a waste of money. Spend the extra cash on something else.

Shogun 2 maxed on DX11 displeases me, sire. ):

Physx being more popular with developers rather than Havoc is another pro for being an Nvidia fanboy. I'm using my 9500GT simultaneously just for making use of the Physx ability.

I see the benchmarks sing praises of GTX 580 ?

G) Buy an SSD because Windows is a dog.

Alternatively, treat yourself to something better than breathing in the faint smell of hot electronics with dust and take the lady out on a nice dinner.

What I thought of as well yet it feels just too expensive for the moment.

Alternatively, my ladybug is far from here and has a hard time breaking free of her family. |:
