View Full Version : Baktrian "reform" related question
In my baktrian campaign the bodyguard upgrade came with the march of time as expected. What I was not aware of, that all my mercenary captains (I had a few steppe nobles and vollorixes) also turned into baktrian kataphrakts. Also the shevrons and command/fame stars seems to be reduced. Is that normal, or can be prevented somehow? I mean not the reform, but to keep the horse archer captains.
I'm afraid that's caused by the game engine, which didn't consider the possibility of having different units for general's bodyguards...

considering Hetairoi kataphraktoi are THE most powerfull unit ingame, that is a fair point indeed^^
tho they may not be as versatile...
Out of curiosity, are they actually free? If you have a recruited FM with a bodyguard that cost upkeep (about 1000 mnai/turn for a Hellenic Mercenary General), do they become free when he changes to cataphracts?
Upkeep is a unit stat defined in the EDU, as far as I know, so I don't see why they shouldn't be.
But I also assume that any new allied bodyguard units you recruit will be steppe archers, hellenistic mercenaries, etc. as normal.
Also, named characters will cost you 200 in wages in addition to their upkeep (check the financial scroll), regardless of the size or type of their bodyguard. This also applies to diplomats, spies and assassins.
