I'm sorry for creating a new thread just for this but I haven't seen a stickied sugestion/request thread and also sorry if it has been posted before...
I hope I'm not out of line with a sugestion... but my plea is... if you could make mercenaries a little more distinguishable from native units in custom battles... I don't know, something in the lines pf a small symbol on the unit cards... or mercenaries placed after the native units... that would be great...
Try the multiplayer launcher, it will give you proper rosters for custom battles :)

I like the idea of having a little icon on their unit cards. The difficulty is fitting it on without overcrowding as those unit cards are already quite full.
Many thanks for your suggestion.

np... I'm happy you're considfering it... it doesn't have to be an eyesore... a small M in the upper right, or a slightly different colored background will do...
and thank you Arjos for the sugestion
I like this idea as well.
well, you could change the background color for these particular units: red for mercenaries or sth?
of course, to do that, one would have to edit the picture of the unit itself, not the background proper-going by RTW.
The blue lotus mod had that. It had an orange circle with a white M in the upper right hand corner of their mercenary unit cards.

this is only for MP or customs? i'd hate this for SP, it's be pretty cheesy

You can't have separate unit cards for single and multiplayer battles. I'm not sure why you think it is cheesy, it is no different to the symbols showing the experience, weapon or armour levels which we already have.

That wouldn't work very well as unit cards use transparencies as opposed to an actual coloured background, you would get ugly red squares if you did it that way.
what about some silver coins in the lower left corner or the like.
what about some silver coins in the lower left corner or the like.
Considering the Spaniards hadn't discovered Potosi yet, can we have gold coins instead? ^_^
personally I, the great decision maker of the Europabarbarorum-Team, could live with either, yet I suggested silver because Drachmae and mnai are commonly based on silver rather than gold.

We can't have them in the lower left as there are the upgrades icons.
oh I forgot those, then... the lower right corner.
Then the ammo bar would obscure it, we went for 2 gold coins in the top right in the end.

Such that the gold coin on top hides about three fourths of the coin below it? ^^ A bit picky. Just curious.
Ahahahahahah vartan XD
Anyway glad to see even more in-depth aspects added :)

More like 2/3rds.

:laugh4: You're awesome.
How about in the middle?

I'd thought it would have been pretty obvious why we wouldn't put the icon in the middle of the unit card...

What happens with units that are mercenaries, but not recruited throught the M2TW mercenary system? For example, in EB1 Carthage has access to many units that could be considered mercenaries, but those units are still recruited in their "military barracks" building. Won´t this be a problem, as there could be two versions of the same unit, for example, balearic slingers, one that is a mercenary and the other which is recruited in barracks (technically a mercenary too)?. Thanks in advance.

All units with the mercenary attribute will feature this new unit card emblem. Units without the merchant attribute will not. Some merchant atrr units may be recruited from buildings in addition to appearing in the merchant pool. Units without the merc attractive cannot appear in merc pools. I don't know how this extrainfo could be confusing in the campaign.

Of course the team's gonna include merchant cavalry militia as mercs in Gotland or Eremos! Everyone knows that!
