Ok here is the thing. I have my archers in the middle with infantry on both flanks and in front of them. On the back i have two units of cavs. So basically they are super defended. But when enemy cavelary charges my infantry , the archers run backwards :dizzy2: (instead of just staying where they are and keep shooting) I tried guard mode in the hope they would stay but they wouldnt. What is the magic button i have to push to let them stay and keep shooting those damn mongols, because i just want to keep them to stand and shoot even when mongols are near and they might hit some of my own.

Have you tried the skirmish button? It's the orange sword in the HUD, if you press it units will say "stand and fight" and shouldn't run away. I think there's a distance that they keep no matter how well defended the units are if they are in skirmish mode.

It is a good try, but there are other things in the balance, like your genereal's comand level, and your king's chivalry/dread.
