View Full Version : Some good easy listening music for a romantic date
Peasant Phill

I'm planning a romantic date at my house. You know, some some food and afterwards a boardgame or a movie, ...
Of course there has to be good (fitting) music in the background.
My choices so far:
Les filles du bord de mer - Arno
Hotel lounge - Deus
Don't look back in anger - Oasis
Le plat pays - Jacques Brel
Glory box - Portishead
Ahead by a century - Tragically hip
Sherry Fraser - Marcy's playground
The drugs don't work - The Verve
Teardrop - Massive attack
Our daily reminders - Zita Swoon
Nantes - Beirut
Envoi - Absynth minded
Never forget you - Noisettes
Heartbeat - José Gonzalez
...
Let's see what you guys come up with.
I would play anything classical. Harp, piano, violin. Just something without lyrics to accompany your conversation.

And here you are thinking that I'm good at conversation.
Besides, a date is all about presenting yourself and getting to know the other. Classical music is not something I play very often.
Ha ha! I don't claim to be good at conversation either, but I might find myself straying from my company as I listen to the lyrics. Especially if it is music I am fond of.

im not twelve. and im not with hookers.
also candyshop is incredibly degrading to women.
That song while dirty is not really degrading.

OK, I like Little Dragon. This is something to look into further.
Centurion, classical hero, I absolutely hate R&B and I don't regard hiphop/rap much higher.

I also considered Sex and candy by Marcy's playground or just play some soft saxophone in the background but that would be a bit to obvious.

Nice suggestion Andres and Ronin. I believe I have both CD's in my car.
A good list you got there Secura. Your suggestions do reveal your gender, if I may say so.
What I also thought of:
Set the fire to the third bar - Snow Patrol & Martha Wainwright
Seemann - Rammstein
My angel Gabriel - Lamb
All I need - Air

I can't get enough of this song. I heard it as background music on one of the Michelle Phan makeup tutorials. Yes, I watch those, because her and her sister are hot and have really pleasant voices.

Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?
In 1987, Huey released "Fore!", their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is Hip To be Square. It's so catchy that most people don't even listen to the lyrics, but they should! Because it's not just about the dangers of conformity and the importance of trends, its also a personal statement about the band itself.
Contributing something. Either you're going to like what I offer or you won't, explaining why I like it won't do anything to change your opinion. So here's a light-hearted troll post, and one of my personal favorites.

The drugs don't work - The Verve
I forgot to add that, while this is a fantastic song, it's just too sombre for the mood you're trying to create. Sonnet is a better choice. :3

I'm aware that this song is about The singers drug use AND the death of his father but I like it way better than Sonnet.
Besides when English isn't your first language people don't always know exactly what the song is about. I'm mostly the only one of my friends who can sing along with any given song. You would be surprised what people here play as opening dance for their wedding (I want you from Elvis Costello isn't exactly perfect but quite popular here).

Moros, are you the female Orgah people have been looking here in the frontroom? More than words? Even the rest of the band in that clip is laughing at the sexual tension between those two.
But all in all there are some good suggestions in there.
You asked easy listerning. Just a guitar and some vocals is the most typical set up for that. And we all know those are often melo-dramatic songs. What kind of songs are you looking for, if there are some songs you like from te list I could suggest others in the same style or something. I kinda posted an eclectic and varied list cause that's best in those cases. Also variety makes musci less boring, but you don't want to be associated with just one genre or something. You seemed to like non rap/dance 90's, rock so I tought I'd add some classics, with some good old nostalgia, some more commercial and some more recent or hip. Also I'd recommend to avoid only American or English music as well. Variety and some untypical (though not to underground, arty farty,...) songs seems best. You don't want to be seen as shallow, nor as too much a music freak.

Right you are, though I tend to avoid 'Knuffelrock' music (a term I imagine you'll be familiar with).
Oh and now for the report of the queue dramatic music date:
The menu
Mohito (home made with fresh mint and everything) as aperitif
slice of goat cheese with honey and rhubarb mousse as a starter
home made lassagna with salmon
petit beurre taart as dessert
The activity for the evening besides enjoying light conversation during our meal was the preparation of the petit beurre taart which is something I used to make as a child. It's pretty much boils down to dipping a certain brand of cookies in coffee and smear butter with brown sugar over it. It's easy, it's incredibly delicious and a fun way to get close and have a naughty food fight.
Unfortunately, we didn't quite hit it off so there was no food fight.
I did get a flattering comment on the music so this is also a flattering comment to the taste of the Org.
