View Full Version : Little monuments?

Alrighty so, Ive searched for info on these and cant find it, at least not by the search terms Im using.
At the start of a Date campaign on Normal, I fought three battles in quick succession against the neighbor in Udo. After one of them, in the mountain gap between our two provinces, a little stellae/pillar model appeared next to the road near my army. Hovering over it with my mouse cursor displayed a box saying "Battle of ____, 1540."
I'm assuming it was a monument to the battle. But how the heck did I get it? I have not seen a single one yet in my Shimazu campaign on hard.
My first though was I'd accidentally clicked 'record game' and it was a symbol of a battle recorded there. But I havent tried again to test it.
Second idea was that it's the site of a historical battle that I ended up fighting 'in spirit' totally by accident.
Anybody know what that was and how to get it again?

You have to win a legendary victory, then you get a monument recording the battle's details.

So what exactly constitutes a "Legendary Victory"? I'm pretty sure the forces were rather even in that battle.
The type of victory you claim at the end of a battle is determined by your k/d ratio. I'm sure you've seen it on the end battle screen, where it offers you the chance to save your replay. "Close victory" "Clear victory" and so on.
Typically winning a big battle, and winning in a big way by killing a lot of the enemy, will get you a statue on the map to record the event.

In addition to kill/loss ratios, I think it helps if you are outnumbered. That's where I have won most of mine. If you have the larger army you will almost never win a legendary victory. If the armies are roughly even, it seems like you have to barely lose anyone while killing most of the enemy; I've had battles where I have lost around 100 and killed over 1,000 and not been awarded it.
Legendary is a lot harder to get than in the older games, which is a good thing. It felt like I used to win legendary status in every second battle in RTW!

Gotcha.
Yeah I've been getting quite a few Heroic victories recently, but no legendary ones.
Last battle I, the enemy had about 500 more men than I, and I routed them after about five minutes. Got a heroic victory. Then they fled and holed-up in a castle. Took it with 200 casualties, and lost no generals, and it was called a 'costly victory'. Go figure.
It also helps if your troops are outclassed by the enemy...
For example ashigaru vs samurai...

They are pretty hard to get to be honest, the rules have been toughened up for S2TW. I remember you could easily get them in RTW.

Um, with due respect I think the previous posters have it wrong. What they are talking about are 'heroic victories'. Now maybe you get a monument for these as well but the monuments I have gotten (have not had a heroic victory yet, mainly due to outnumbering the enemy most times) are for 'famous battles'. A famous battle is one where lots of troops fight and die.

IMHO, the idea of heroic and famous battles has been condensed, so more or less if there's lots of troops you get the monument even if it's not a heroic victory. Nevertheless, it has to be a huge battle, as I said before, the rules have been toughened up.
